Interrelation on the Electronic Structure and Spectroscopic-Photoeletric Characteristics in the Cyanine and Merocyanine Dye(II) (Cyanine 및 Merocyanine색소의 분광특성 및 광전특성에 대한 전자구조의 상관관계(II))

  • Organic thin film electroluminescene devices were fabricated using by molecularly doped method with N,N`-diphenyl-N,N`-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1`-biphenyl-4,4`-diamine(TPD) as a hole transport material, tris(8-quinolinolate) aluminium(III)(Alq3) as an emitting and electron transport agent, fluorescent squarylium(SQ) dye as a dopant, and poly(methylmethacrylate) as polymer materials. A cell structure of ITO/TPD-PMMA/Alq3-dopant/Mg was employed. The EL spectrum covers a wide range of the visible region and orange emission os observed. Two peaks at 520 and 660nm correspond to the emissions 620nm Alq3 and SQ dye, respectively.

  • The optical properties of $TiO_2$ thin films dispersed in epoxy film, which were prepared with bis-(4, 4'-P-toluenesulfonylacidic isoproplyidene) cycolhexadiol(BTSPC) and UVI 6990 in dry sol-gel process, were investigated. In the case of irradiating UV light on $TiO_2$ thin films, how many nanopartlcles of $TiO_2$ are dispersed in epoxy film was investigated by AFM. The absorption peak of the films was showed at 360nm. Squarylium dye was dispersed in $TiO_2$-epoxy film. Photodegration concerned with amount of dye and time of UV light irradiation was investigated. UV light irradiation on the film occurred dramatical photodegration.

  • Some chromophores that can undergo a pronouncend colour change when acted upon an extenal agency, such as light, heat, pH, or chemical agents, have many potential applicationa as functional dyes. They may be used as indicators, optical sensors, biochemical probes, optical and thermal recording materials. The results will investigate donor-acceptor chromophores which have the potential for such colour change processes. In particular, cross-conjugated donor-acceptor chormophores, analogous to indigo and squarylium-type chromophores, will be examined for pH sensitizing and for their oxidation-reduction colour change behaviour.

The Synthesis of New Leuco Squarylium Dyes

  • It is well known that certain classes of dye are reducible to stable colorless leuco compounds, which can be oxidized in air back to the colored species. We now reported that bis(4-dialkylaminophenyl)squaraine dyes are readily reduced in solution by borohydride to give alkali soluble leuco compound, which exists in the 3-hydroxy 2,4-bis(4-dialkylaminophenyl)cyclobuten-one. New alkylamine leuco compounds were synthesized by the reaction of leuco chloro-squaraine with alkylamine derivatives. The leuco compounds are easily isolated and can be air oxidized back to the squaraine dyes. These dyes have many technical application. e.g. in xerography, solar cell, optical recording material, redox indicators, and enzyme assays.

The Electroluminescence Properties of Sq-doped Alq3 Organic Thin Films (Sq가 도핑된 Alq3 유기 박막의 발광 특성)

  • We prepared organic light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) with a squarylium(Sq)-doped aluminum quinoline(Alq3) emission layer by the vapor deposition method. We discussed their electro-luminescence(EL) and electrical properties. The EL from Sq had a peak wavelength of 670nm and a half-width of 30nm. Only the EL from So(purely red) could be observed at the doping concentration of over 15mol%, but the luminance were low (0.21cd/$m^2$, 0.1cd/$m^2$) and EL efficiency was under the $10^{-2}$W. Although Sq molecules seemed to act as trap site in Alq3 molecules, they acted as carrier drafts site at doping concentration of over 5mol%.
