  • This paper describes the results of experiments on the bending behavior of welded square tube structures for drive shaft sub frame of BIMODAL Tram. The used specimens to test were two different type made of ATOS60 and ST52-3. The square tube made of ST52-3 is the non-welded structure, while the square tube made of ATOS60 is the welded structure. The welded square tube made of ATOS60 will be applied for drive shaft sub frame of BIMODAL Tram. This welded square tube could reduce the manufacturing cost in comparison of non-welded square tube. The results showed that the bending performance of welded square tube made of ATOS60 was proven, and the bending behavior was in an good agreement with that of nonlinear finite element analysis.

  • Spectral behaviors of lasing from semiconductor square ring microcavities with structures for unidirectional laser oscillation were investigated. When a tapered structure was introduced, the lasing envelope shifted to a shorter wavelength region. Statistical estimate of the additional loss caused by the tapered structure was carried out by analyzing spectral data from many sets of cavities with various sizes. When a saw-edged structure was introduced, the unidirectional lasing functioned well but no apparent spectral shift was observed due to negligible additional loss.

  • Owing to generalization of design competitions since 1990s, various design methods was tried in elementary middle high school design competitions. Therefore, to analyze design characteristics of elementary middle high school is very meaningful. In this context, this study is the most important purpose for analyzing layout plans and their trends in prizewinners of elementary middle high school design competitions and for furnishing basic datum for next school design. The result of this study is following : (1) The layout patterns of school buildings are classified into 12 types. (2) Entrance design is divided into 6 types(structure, column and wall, open, half structure, general, and mixed type). (3) Square design is grouped into 7 types. (4) Pedestrian mall is sorted out 6 types(straight lineal, curve, curve and square, straight lineal and curve, and straight lineal and curve and square type). (5) Entrance types of vehicle and pedestrian are classified into 4 types(parallel, ㅡ separation, ㄱ separation, and opposite separation type) Analysis shows that the best applying for layout patterns of school buildings is ㄷ type and ㅌ type, for entrance design is structure type, for square design is ${\square}$ type and ${\bigcirc}$ type, for pedestrian mall is straight lineal and square type, and for entrance types of vehicle and pedestrian is parallel type.

  • Square patterned jet grouting technique is the soil improvement method that shakes the special end monitor left and right like as tail fin and mixing the soil and cement paste after cutting the soil in square shape by injecting the cement paste from installed two nozzles. The structure shape by jet grouting technique can be constructed in various shapes and sizes like as square, circle, and sector form designed by an engineer. Also, it can be constructed without waste material and reduced a construction time of work economically. In this study, the applicability of Square Jet Grouting to reduce permeability is estimated by FEM analysis and in-situ test in many cases which are various coefficient of permeability and breadth of grouting structure.

  • The drop type impact test and finite element analysis are established for examining the buckling behavior of a square tube under the lateral impact load. Based on these results, the effects by the boundary conditions for supporting the structure are reviewed, which are as follows. One is pinned condition by screw; the other is fixed by welding. The critical impact force and acceleration by test are nearly same between two cases. However, the critical impact velocity of the pinned condition is higher than that of the fixed case. Therefore, the dynamic buckling behavior of a pinned structure is better than the fixed condition in view of critical impact velocity. These test and analysis results will be adaptable for predicting the dynamic structural integrity of a tube structure not only the axial impact event but the lateral impact event.

  • This paper has presented a low phase noise oscillator using a square open loop with microstrip structure. A square open loop resonator has a large coupling coefficient value, which makes a high Q value, and has reduced phase noise. This oscillator has presented the oscillation frequency of 5.84 GHz, harmonics of -15.83 dBc and the phase noise of -111.17 dBc/Hz at the offset frequency of 100 kHz. In conclusion, the proposal structure has improved phase noise of 15 dB at the offset frequency of 100 kHz compared with the conventional structure of oscillator.

  • Purpose: This cross-sectional study was done to compare factors influencing young adolescents' aggression according to family structure. Methods: Participants were 680 young adolescents aged 11 to 15 years (113 in single father families, 136 in single mother families, 49 in grandparent families, and 382 in both-parent families). All measures were self-administered. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program and factors affecting young adolescents' aggression were analyzed by stepwise multiple regression. Results: Levels of young adolescents' aggression and all variables were significantly different among the four family structure groups. Factors influencing young adolescents' aggression were also different according to these 4 groups. For single father families, depression-anxiety and family hardiness significantly predicted the level of young adolescents' aggression (adjusted R square=.37, p<.001). For single mother families, depression-anxiety, gender, and friends' support significantly predicted the level of young adolescents' aggression (adjusted R square=.58, p<.001). For grandparent families, depression-anxiety and family support significantly predicted the level of young adolescents' aggression (adjusted R square=.58, p<.001). For both-parent families, depression-anxiety, family hardiness, and friends' support significantly predicted the level of young adolescents' aggression (adjusted R square=.48, p<.001). Conclusion: Nurses working with young adolescents should consider family structure-specific factors influencing aggression in this population.

  • The main objective of the present research was investigating the effects of a floating wave barrier installed in front of an offshore jacket structure on the wave height, base shear, and overturning moment. A jacket model with the height of 4.55 m was fabricated and tested in the 402 m-long wave flume of NIMALA marine laboratory. The jacket was tested at the water depth of 4 m subjected to the random waves with a JONSWAP energy spectrum. Three input wave heights were chosen for the tests: 20 cm, 23 cm, and 28 cm. Two different cross sections with the same area were selected for the wave barrier: square and rhombus. Results showed that the average decrease in the jacket's base shear due to the presence of a floating wave barrier with square and rhombus cross section was 24.67% and 34.29%, respectively. The use of wave barriers with square and rhombus cross sections also resulted in 19.78% and 33.11% decrease in the jacket's overturning moment, respectively. Hence, it can be concluded that a floating wave barrier can significantly reduce the base shear and overturning moment in an offshore jacket structure; and a rhombus cross section is more effective than an equivalent square section.

  • In this paper we introduce a new escalator(ESC) structure-based adaptation algorithm. The proposed algorithm is independent of eigenvalues spread ratio(ESR) of channel and has faster convergence speed than that of the conventional ESC algorithms. This algorithm combines the fast adaptation ability of least square methods and the orthogonalization property of the ESC structure. From the simulation results the proposed algorithm shows superior convergence speed and no slowing down of convergence speed when we increase the ESR of the channel.
