  • This paper proposes a novel approach to determine symmetrical components of power system by applying method of least squares in time domain. For the modern power system stability, clearance of faults on high voltage transmission lines in zero response time is crucial and important. Symmetrical components have a great attention since last century. They have been found an effective tool for the analysis of symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults in power system. Moreover, magnitude of symmetrical components are also used as a caution about faults in system. With rapid changes in technology, Microprocessor assumed to be fastest machine of the modern era. Hence microprocessor based techniques were developed and implemented for last few decades. The proposed technique apply least square method in the computation of symmetrical components which is suitable as an application in microprocessor based monitoring and controlling power system in order to avoid cascading failures. Simulation of proposed model is carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK and all results exploit the validity of model.

  • In image processing we encounter some tasks to detect ellipse or to discriminate the curves. LSM is well used to fit curves to ellipse but it can fail to fit correctly when fitting to defected one. To overcome this problem, we propose Modified LSM. Only 2-parameters among 5-paramaters are to be determined by LSM, while 3-parameters are to be calculated by the constrain that the curve must pass 3 given points. Those 3 points are selected by operator so as to have elliptic feature. Such proposed MLSM shows better result than genunal LSM in case when the ellipse is severely defected. and is proved to be good method for determing the human dentition.

  • In this paper, an algorithm to compensate the distorted signals due to Current Transformer(CT) saturation is suggested, First, DWT which can be easily realized by filter banks in real-time applications is used to detect a start point and an end point of the saturation. Secondly, For enough Datas those need to use the least-square curve fitting method, the distorted current signal is compensated by the AR(autoregressive) model using the data during the previous healthy section until pick point of Saturation. Thirdly, the least-square curve fitting method is used to restore the distorted section of the secondary current. Finaly, this algorithm had a Hadware test using DSP board(TMS320C32) with Doble test device. DWT has superior detection accuracy and the proposed compensation algorithm which shows very stable features under various levels of remanent flux in the CT core is also satisfactory. And this algorithm is more correct than a previous algorithm which is only using the LSQ fitting method. Also it can be used as a MU involving the compensation function that acquires the second data from CT and PT.

  • In this paper, the epipolar geometry, genera17y used as a pin-hole camera model, is newly adapted to our proposed method that enables the affine reconstruction of the 3D object from two projected views. The proposed method models the projective projection of inherent X-ray imaging system, obviates the need to attach artifirially constructed material on the body, and requires none of the prior-knowledge regarding to intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of two X-ray imaging systems. The optimum numerical solution is obtained by applying the least mean square estimator to corresponding points on two projected X-ray planes. The performance of this proposed method is Quantitatively analyzed using computer synthesized model of Cochlear implantation electrodes. In simulated experiments, the propnsed method is insensitive to the added random noise, the scaling factor change, the center point change, and rotational angular change between two projection planes, as well as enables the stable 3D reconstruction in least square sense even in worst testing cases.

  • In this paper, a spatio-temporal gradient (STG) method with generalized least square estimation (GLSE) is proposed for the detection of an object motion in an image sequence corrupted by white Gaussian noise. The proposed method is applied to an automatic target tracker using a high speed 16-bit microprocessor in order to track one moving target in real time. Experimental results show that the proposed method has much better performance over the conventional one with least square estimation (LSE).

  • A FA-FD hybrid method, developed for solving three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, is applied to calculate three-dimensional laminar flows through a square duct with a 90° bend. The method discretizes the convective terms in the primary flow direction with 3rd-order upwind finite-differences and the convective and diffusive terms in the transverse directions with the two-dimensional finite analytic method. The non-staggered grid system is used and the pressure-velocity coupling is achieved by a global iteration procedure based on the PISO algorithm. Detailed comparisons between the computed solutions and the available experimental data are given mainly for the velocity distributions at cross-sections in a 90° bend of a square duct with both fully developed and developing entry flows. Although the computational result shows generally a good agreement with the experimental data, there are some significant discrepancies underlining the necessity of more accurate numerical methods as well as reliable experimental data for their validation.

  • In this paper, a method for estimation of external force on an end-effector using joint torque sensor is proposed. The method is based on portion of measure torque caused by external force. Due to noise in the torque measurement data from the torque sensor, a recursive least-square estimation algorithm is used to ensure a smoother estimation of the external force data. However it is inevitable to create a delay for the sensor to detect the external force. In order to reduce the delay, modified recursive least-square is proposed. The performance of the proposed estimation method is evaluated in an experiment on a developed six-degree-of-freedom robot. By using NI DAQ device and Labview, the robot control, data acquisition and The experimental results output are processed in real time. By using proposed modified RLS, the delay to estimate the external force with the RLS is reduced by 54.9%. As an experimental result, the difference of the actual external force and the estimated external force is 4.11% with an included angle of $5.04^{\circ}$ while in dynamic state. This result shows that this method allows joint torque sensors to be used instead of commonly used external sensory system such as F/T sensors.

  • Magnetometer calibration must be performed before the use of three-axis magnetometers to ensure the accuracy of orientation estimation. Recently, one of the most popular calibration approaches is the ellipsoid fitting technique due to its high performance in calibration. To date, in fact, performances of the existing ellipsoid fitting methods have been evaluated with full range rotation data. However, in case of the calibration of magnetometers attached to vehicles, ships, and planes, it is very difficult to collect the full range rotation data since their allowable ranges in terms of roll and pitch are limited to small. This constraint may result in serious performance degradation of some ellipsoid fitting algorithms. Therefore, to be practical, this paper proposes a weighted least square-based magnetometer calibration method that is robust in roll-pitch limited conditions. Furthermore, the proposed method is a linear approach and thus is free from the well-known initial value issue in nonlinear approaches. Experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method to other ellipsoid-fitting calibration methods.

  • In a speech coding system using excitation source of voiced and unvoiced, it would be involves a distortion of speech waveform in case coexist with a voiced and an unvoiced consonants in a frame. This paper present a new method of TSIUVC (Transition Segment Including Unvoiced Consonant) approximate-synthesis by using Least Mean Square. The TSIUVC extraction is based on a zero crossing rate and IPP (Individual Pitch Pulses) extraction algorithm using residual signal of FIR-STREAK Digital Filter. As a result, This method obtain a high Quality approximation-synthesis waveform by using Least Mean Square. The important thing is that the frequency signals in a maximum error signal can be made with low distortion approximation-synthesis waveform. This method has the capability of being applied to a new speech coding of Voiced/Silence/TSIUVC, speech analysis and speech synthesis.

  • The present study numerically investigates the motion of a solid body suspended in the square enclosure with natural convection. A two-dimensional circular cylinder levitated thermally has been simulated by using thermal lattice Boltzmann method(TLBM) with the direct-forcing immersed boundary method. To deal with the ascending, falling or levitation of a circular cylinder in natural convection, the immersed boundary method is expanded and coupled with the TLBM. The circular cylinder is located at the bottom of a square enclosure with no restriction on the motion and freely migrates due to the Boussinesq approximation which is employed for the coupling between the flow and temperature fields. For different density ratio between the cylinder and the fluid, the motion characteristics of the circular cylinder for various Grashof numbers have been carried out. The Prandtl number is fixed as 0.7.
