In the case of the railway bridges, uplift forces were occurred at the edge of the segments when vehicular loads were applied. These forces caused the compressive and tensile forces in the fastening system. In the past, a structural analysis has been performed to investigate the safety of fastening system which was modeled with one directional spring elements based on the compressive test of fastening system. In this case, the stiffness of the spring element was obtained from experimental study which was conducted by compressive load. Therefore, to perform rational and exact structural analysis, the translational stiffness of the fastening system obtained from the experimental study applied the tensile load and the rotational stiffness should be considered because it was occurred the tensile force as well as the compressive force in fastening system. In this study, an elastic and inelastic experimental study was performed for six specimens. The translational stiffness along the vertical axis of rail and the rotational stiffness along the strong axis of rail were investigated, also structural behavior of the fastening system was analyzed.

The contracted electric power and the demand factor of customers are used to predict the peak load in distribution transformers. The conventional demand factor was determined more than ten years ago. The contracted electric power and power demand have been increased. Therefore, we need to prepare the novel demand factor that appropriates at present. In this paper, we modify the demand factor to improve the peak load prediction of distribution transformers. To modify the demand factor, we utilize the 169 data acquisition devices for sample distribution transformers in winter, spring summer. And, the peak load currents were measured by the case studies using the actual load data, through which we verified that the proposed demand factors were correct than the conventional factors. A newly demand factor will be used to predict the peak load of distribution transformers.

Generally, dynamic loads are applied to real structures. Since the analysis with the dynamic load is extremely difficult, static loads are utilized by proper conversions of the dynamic loads. The dynamic loads are usually converted ot static loads by safety foactors of experiences. However, it may increase weight and decrease reliability. In this study, a method is proposed for the conversion process. An equivalent static load is calculated ot generate a same maximum displacement. The method is verified through numerical tests on a spring-mass systems of one and multi degrees-of freedom. It has been found that the duration time of the loads and the natural frequencies of the structures are critical in the conversion process. A road arem is a self-propelled howizer is selected for the application of the proposed method. The shape of the road arm is optimized under the converted static loads.

Railway noise and vibration has been recognized as major problems with the speed-up of rolling stock. As a kind of solution to these problems, the decrease of stiffness of track pad have been tried. However, in this case, overturning of rail due to lateral force should be considered because it can have effect on the safety of running train. Therefore, above two things - decrease of stiffness of track pad and overturning of rail due to lateral force - should be considered simultaneously for the appropriate determination of spring coefficient of track pad. With this viewpoint, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated through the comparison between the theoretical relationship about the overturning of rail and 3-dimensional FE analysis result. Two kinds of Lateral force and wheel load are used as input loads. Extracted values from the conventional estimation formula and the Shinkansen design loads are used. It is found that the overturning of rail changes corresponding to the change of the stiffness of track pad and the ratio of lateral force to wheel load. Moreover, it is found that the analysis model can have influence on the results. Through these procedure, minimum spring coefficient of track pad is estimated.

The architectural difference between the existing residence and high-rise residential building causes changes on environmental conditions such as ventilation and insulation. The object of this study is to present the improvement on envelop of high-rise residential buildings to reduce heating and cooling load. To improve the environmental performance of envelop, it is necessary to modify envelop vent system and ensure intermediate space. In this study, the shape of vents in high-rise residential buildings has been inspected, and the survey about the interior environmental conditions related to the envelop of high-rise residential building has been conducted. Environmental measurement has been done to examine out door air quality for natural ventilation.

In this study, the impact load on bridge by vessel collision in consideration of fender system is evaluated by numerical method. The bow of object vessel(DWT5000) is standardized, and modeled by shell elements. The main body of objective vessel is modeled by beam elements that present mass distribution and stiffness of vessel. The buoyancy effect of vessel is considered as linear spring. The two types of fender systems, such as steel and rubber are analyzed in this study. In steel fender system, the steel plates that absorb collision energy by its collapse are modeled by shell element with stiffener. The steel is material modeled elastic-plastic material. In the rubber fender system, the rubber material is modeled hyper-elastic material and the main body of fender is modeled by solid elements. The global impact responses of vessel and fender system are evaluated by explicit dynamic scheme. The results show that the magnitude of vessel collision force are depended on the material behavior of fender system. Also the values of collision load are conservative compare to the those of design codes.
A force sensor of 30 MN capacity using build-up technique in which three load cells of 10 MN capacity are arranged in parallel was fabricated. A column spring element was adopted as a shape of a strain gage type load cell. Temperature compensation circuits were used to reduce the error of a load cell. It was estimated that the total error of the fabricated force sensor is less than 0.1 %. The force sensor may be used to calibrate or test material testing machines above 4.5 MN capacity in industries.

This paper aims to design a variable-stiffness type economical safety joint for service robots. The safety joint was designed to have a passive shock absorbing mechanism for protecting human from a catastrophic collision under service condition of robots. A simple mechanism composed of two action disks for switching the load transfer, a spring and a screw for pre-load was proposed. In order to evaluate the performance of the safety joint a testing platform which can carry out the static and impact tests was also designed and fabricated. From the test results, the designed safety joint was proved to have a variable load-carrying capacity and about 42% impact absorption capacity with simple manipulation of the control screw.

An experimental study has been carried out to reduce bending load, surface roughness and springback in bending process of stainless steel sheets. A U-bending test has been performed to investigate appropriate process parameters for getting better surfaces and accurate dimensions of stainless steel products. In the test, selected process parameters are die material, lubricant, and die clearance. Die materials used in the test are STD11(HRC60), STD11(TiCN), and AMPCO. From the test results, we can suggest that AMPCO dies are most suitable for reducing bending load and surface roughness of stainless steel sheets. And STD11 dies are favorable for avoiding spring-back in the stainless steel sheet-bending.
This paper provides a state-of-the-art review on advanced analysis models for investigating the load-displacement and ultimate load behaviour of steel and composite frames subjected to static gravity and lateral loads. Various inelastic analysis models for steel and composite members are reviewed. Composite beams under positive and negative moments are analysed using a moment-curvature relationship which captures the effects of concrete cracking and steel yielding along the members length. Beam-to-column connections are modeled using rotational spring. Building core walls are modeled using thin-walled element. Finally, the nonlinear behaviour of a complete multi-storey building frame consisting of a centre core-wall and the perimeter frames for lateral-load resistance is investigated. The performance of the total building system is evaluated in term of its serviceability and ultimate limit states.
