This paper is concerned with spring back after sheet forming of bulk amorphous alloys in the super cooled liquid state. The temperature-dependence and strain-rate dependence of Newtonian/non-Newtonian viscosities as well as the stress overshoot/undershoot behavior of amorphous alloys are reflected in the thermo-mechanical Finite Element simulations. Hemispherical deep drawing operations are simulated for various forming conditions such as punch velocity, die comer radius, friction, blank holder force, clearance and initial funning temperature. Here, spring back by an instantaneous elastic unloading was followed by thermal deformation during cooling, and two modes of spring back are examined in detail. It could be concluded that the superior sheet formability of an amorphous alloy can be obtained by taking the proper forming conditions for loading/unloading.

A gas-spring has been used in many areas and its use is increasing because it can be designed for a range of purposes. In this study, the behavior of a piston with an orifice hole inside the gas-spring cylinder was predicted using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The piston was designed to reduce the reaction force if the gas-spring is compressed and to move at a low speed when it is returned. The analysis showed that if the initial gas pressure in the gas-spring is increased to a certain level, the speed of the piston would not decrease with time but will remain constant. The effects of orifice hall size on the piston return speed were investigated. Reducing the size of the orifice hole will increase the pressure difference on both sides of the piston, reduce the piston speed, and make it more constant. On the assumption of a constant speed of the piston, a theoretical solution to the return speed of the piston was derived according to the initial gas pressure, and the results for several initial gas pressures were compared with those of CFD. Comparison studies showed similar results for both methods.
The purpose of this study was to find the difference of stress distribution on canine altered by the application point of preangulated T-loop spring. For this study, the finite element models of upper left canine, upper left second premolar and upper left first molar were made. Also, the finite element models of $0.017{\times}0.025$ inch preangulated, preactivated T-loop spring and $0.018{\times}0.025$ inch stainless steel wire were made. Three types of T-loop spring were made . the middle of activated T-loop is positioned in accordance with the middle position of distance of bracket position of both the canine and first molar, 2mm anterior, 2mm posterior. We compared the forces and the distribution of stress that were generated by the difference of position of T-loop spring. The results were as follows. 1. All of the 3 types of T-loop spring showed the similar retraction forces. 2. All showed the similar amount & pattern of stress distribution. 3. The centers of rotation of canine in 3 types of T-loop spring were same and were positioned between C and D plane. 4. The canine showed the intrusive force by 2mm anterior positioned T-loop spring, but the extrusive force by 2mm posterior positioned T-loop suing. Neverthless, because of the small amount of the forces, the effect of vertical force was not significant.
In this paper, the effect of material elasticity was evaluated through a simple model as proposed by Wang and Yu (1991), for yield mechanisms of a cantilever beam under tip pulse loading. The beam was assumed rigid-perfectly plastic but instead of the usual fully clamped constraints at its root, an elastic-perfectly plastic rotational spring was introduced there so the system had a certain capacity to absorb elastic energy. Compared with a rigid-perfectly plastic beam without a spring root, the present beam-spring model showed differences in the initial plastic hinge position and the minimum magnitude of the dynamic force needed to produce a plastic failure. It was also shown that various failure responses may happen while the hinge travels along the beam segment towards the root, rather than a unique response mode as in a rigid perfectly plastic analysis.

Many LNG ships will be constructed in Korea and the demand of safety valves is increasing. The most important performance of the developed safety relief valves for LNG ship is flow capacity. Flow capacity tests for 8 sizes of developed safety valves were conducted in the high pressure gas flow standard system in KRISS. The initial spring force adjustment was important for setting pressure of the safety valve. The procedure of data reduction and evaluation of the safety valve performance are suggested. This procedure was approved by French Bureau Veritas and Lloyd's Register.

Cai-go management facility of harbor are required an expansion due to increase of cargo quantity. Design technology of Yard AGV call be possible to deal many cargo rapidly and accurately. So it is produced a profit about cal-go management. This study is presented optimum of suspension parameter for design technology Yard AGV. Model I, II are modeled about Initial of container weight, height. When the maximum stroke of suspension is 0.26m, optimum is achieved to reduce the reaction force at the minimum. Also, the reaction force is study to become stability in I second. A change of spring constant and coefficient of damper make change the reaction force and minimum reaction force appear in optimum value. All modeling and analysis are used combination. contact element of Ansys program.
Bolts and nuts are widely used to fasten each mechanical part together in the machines and structures as vital elements. The primary role of bolts and nuts is keeping its axial force against the large external force and vibration. In this study, a lock nut using a spring was developed to maintain axial force. When the lock nut was made, crack occurred in the process of manufacturing the lock nut. Thus, optimized structure of lock nut was found by using the design of experiments. Lastly, the prototype of the optimized lock nut was created, and then the optimization result was verified by comparing results of the initial model and optimized model.
This paper conducts a parametric study of a new tuned mass damper with pre-strained superelastic SMA helical springs (SMAS-TMD) on the vibration reduction effect. First, a force-displacement relation model of superelastic SMA helical spring is presented based on the multilinear constitutive model of SMA material, and the tension tests of the six SMA springs fabricated are implemented to validate the mechanical model. Then, a dynamic model of a single floor steel frame with the SMAS-TMD damper is set up to simulate the seismic responses of the frame, which are testified by the shaking table tests. The wire diameter, initial coil diameter, number of coils and pre-strain length of SMA springs are extracted to investigate their influences on the seismic response reduction of the frame. The numerical and experimental results show that, under different earthquakes, when the wire diameter, initial coil diameter and number of coils are set to the appropriate values so that the initial elastic stiffness of the SMA spring is between 0.37 and 0.58 times of classic TMD stiffness, the maximum reduction ratios of the proposed damper can reach 40% as the mass ratio is 2.34%. Meanwhile, when the pre-strain length of SMA spring is in a suitable range, the SMAS-TMD damper can also achieve very good vibration reduction performance. The vibration reduction performance of the SMAS-TMD damper is generally equal to or better than that of the classic optimal TMD, and the proposed damper effectively suppresses the detuning phenomena that often occurs in the classic TMD.
This paper presents a new type of pre-pressed spring self-centering energy dissipation (PS-SCED) bracing system that combines friction mechanisms between the inner and outer tube members to provide the energy dissipation with the pre-pressed combination disc springs installed on both ends of the brace to provide the self-centering capability. The mechanics and the equations governing the design and hysteretic responses of the bracing system are outlined, and a series of validation tests of components comprising the self-centering mechanism of combination disc springs, the friction energy dissipation mechanism, and a large scale PS-SCED bracing specimen were conducted due to the low cyclic reversed loadings. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed bracing system performs as predicted by the equations governing its mechanical behaviors, which exhibits a stable and repeatable flag-shaped hysteretic response with excellent self-centering capability and appreciable energy dissipation, and large ultimate bearing and deformation capacities. Results also show that almost no residual deformation occurs when the friction force is less than the initial pre-pressed force of disc springs.

A mechanical type pulsation dampener for the diaphragm metering pump has been developed. The pulsation pressure is an inevitable phenomenon for the positive displacement pump such as cam operated or solenoid operated metering pump. The pulsation pressure of the metering pump could be the noise source and would be harmful for the piping system which delivers hydraulic fluid. Developed pulsation dampener consists of three coil springs which have different spring constant and height each other. Depending on pressure magnitude of the piping system, total hydraulic pressure on damping diaphragm which compresses coil springs will be varied. Force equilibrium of the pulsation dampener will be set by manual by adjusting the compressed coil spring height. During the discharge stroke, pulsation dampener stores potential energy that is released as the pumping diaphragm back to an initial position during the suction stroke.
