An Experimental Study on The Effect of Ultrasonic Atomization in Agricultural Twin-fluid Nozzle (농업용 액체 분무용 초음파 분사효과에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate experimentally atomization characteristics for differently made an ultrasonic twin-fluid nozzle. A spray system, an ultrasonic system, and three different type(Nozzle type, Tube type, Conventional type)are made and tested by applied with ultrasonic energy. In this investigation, the measurement and calculation of spray droplet are to analyze the effects of ultrasonic energy on the agricultural atomization system. Through the measurement of suray angle, spray column using, high speed camera and PDA, it is found that nozzle type is highest efficiency than that of tube type and conventional type. It was found that the ultrasonic energy increased the atomization efficiency of spray droplets about 9% respectively and spray angle was wide spray.

Spray Characteristics of Solenoid-driven and Piezo-driven Type Injectors for the Clean Diesel Engine Application (클린 디젤엔진 적용을 위한 솔레노이드 및 피에조 인젝터의 분무특성)

  • This paper presents spray characteristics of piezo-driven type common-rail injector and comparisons to those of solenoid-driven type. Experiments were conducted to measure spray penetraion and SMD distributions using a spray visualization system and PDPA (phase Doppler particle analyzer) system. Injection conditions including injection pressure and energizing durations were varied in order to analyzing effects of injection conditions on spray characteristics. Furthermore, ambient pressures were increased for keeping ambient gas density close to in-cylinder pressure of diesel engine. Results showed that injection delay of piezo-driven type injector was much shorter than those of solenoid driven type and exhibited enhanced atomization performances.

  • This study describes the spray structure of gasoline port injectors by using phase Doppler particle analyzer(PDPA) and particle motion analysis system(PMAS). The characteristics of fuel spray such as the spray penetration, spray angle and breakup processes were obtained by PMAS and the droplet size and mean velocity were measured by PDPA system. Pintle type and two-hole type injectors were used as gasoline port fuel injectors under various injection pressures. The effect of injection pressure on the droplet mean diameter and axial mean velocity of droplet were investigated under the various injection conditions. In addition the comparison of breakup processes for the two types of injectors was also conducted. It Is shown that pintle type injector has smaller droplet size than that of two-hole type injector.

A Study on the Spray Characteristics of Swirl Injectors Using ANSYS Fluent (ANSYS Fluent를 이용한 와류형 분사기의 분무특성 연구)

  • Numerical studies on the spray characteristics of closed-type and open-type swirl injectors were conducted using ANSYS Fluent. By changing injection pressures, discharge coefficient and spray angle were calculated using the Reynolds stress BSL turbulent model. The numerical results were compared with previous experimental data to examine their accuracy. For a closed-type swirl injector, spray angles matched well with experimental results and discharge coefficients showed approximately 8% differences. On the contrary, discharge coefficients of an open-type swirl injector were similar with experimental result but its spray angles presented around 15% differences. Though the numerical results were not perfectly consistent with experimental data, it is thought that they could be sufficiently used for analyzing spray characteristics, specially which is hard to be measured from experiments. Numerical simulation with different turbulent models was also performed to examine their effects on the numerical results.

  • The behavior of spray impinging on the inclined constant temperature flat plate was experimentally investigated. To clarify the wall effect of a high pressure DISI injector, a relative angle of the inclined wall to a spray axis was varied. Spray penetration along the wall was observed optically and it was compared with that of a Fan spray type and Swirl type spray. To evaluate various spray motion quantitatively, a spray path penetration which describe the development of a spray tip along the wall was newly introduced. To observe the structure of an impinging spray, it was visualized by a controlled stroboscope light and its visualized image was captured on an CCD camera. Using the digital image of impinging spray $H_x$ and $R_x$ was extracted to clarify the structure of impinging spray. The main parameter of the relative position of the wall was the inclined angle which was defined as the angle was varied from $0^{\circ}$ (vertical impingement) to $60^{\circ}$ at the same condition.

A Study for Characteristics of Geofiber Reinforced Soil System Practiced on Stone Gabion Bank of River (하천 돌망태 호안에 적용된 토목섬유보강토공법의 녹화 특성)

  • Recently, geofiber(polyester) reinforced soil was added on soil-seed mixture spray to control erosion and to improve vegetation growth on rocky slope sites. This research was conducted to compare vegetation effects and soil hardness on three types of soil-seed mixture spray on stone gabion river bank [A type : soil-seed mixture spray underlying 30cm thick sand with geofiber(geofiber reinforced soil system), B type : soil-seed mixture spray underlying 30cm thick sand without geofiber, C type : soil-seed mixture spray]. Evaluation were made concerning vegetation coverage, soil hardness and moisture content. The results of this study showed that A type system was effective for the growth of vegetation and soil hardness when compareed to B type and C type. A type and B type showed higher covering rate than C type on stone gabion river bank, and especially A type showed the highest covering rate. Soil hardness and water content were high on A type vegetation system compared to B type and C type. We noted that high soil hardness and high moisture content with geofiber(geofiber reinforced soil system) were effective both to control erosion from water current impact and to be high coverage and species of vegetation on stone gabion river bank.

Comparision of Spray Angles of Pintle-Type Gasoline Injector with Different Measuring Methods (측정방법에 따른 핀틀형 가솔린 인젝터의 분무각 비교)

  • Spray angle, a parameter which is most commonly used to evaluate. spray distribution, is important because it affects the axial and radial distribution of the fuel. Spray angles were measured and compared for the pintle-type gasoline fuel injector with n-heptane as a test fuel with the three different measuring techniques, i.e. digital image processing, shadowgraphy and spray patternator, respectively. Fuel was injected with the injection pressures of 0.2-0.35MPa into the room temperature and atmospheric pressure environment. In digital image processing method, the transmittance level greatly influences the spray angle with the axial distance from the injector. From the experimental results by the shadowgraphy technique, it is obvious that the spray angle vary during the injection period. The results of spray angle from the spray patternator show that there exist the different spray angles in the different areas. The spray angles increase with the increase in the injection pressure for the three measurement techniques considered in this study. The spray angle is widely different, especially in the near region from the injector, according to the measurement techniques used in this experimental work.

Evaluation of the Impact Force on the Single Spray and Overlap Region of Twin Spray in Full Cone Type Swirl Nozzle (Full Cone Type 스월노즐에서 단일분무와 이중분무의 중첩영역에 대한 충격력 평가)

  • The impact force on the single and overlap region of twin spray was experimentally evaluated using visualization method in full cone type swirl nozzle spray. Visualization of spray was conducted to obtain the spray angle and breakup process. The photography/imaging technique, based on Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) using high-speed camera, was adopted for the direct observation of droplet motion and axial velocity measurement, respectively. Droplet size was measured by Particle Motion Analyze System (PMAS). The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental information of spray characteristics, such as impact force, for higher etching factor in the practical wet etching system. It was found that the spray angle, axial velocity and impact force were increased with increasing the nozzle pressure while droplet size decreased with increasing the nozzle pressure. Droplet size increased as the distance from nozzle tip was decreased. The impact force of twin spray in the overlap region was about 63.29, 67.02, 52.41% higher than that of single spray at 40, 50 and 60 mm of nozzle pitch, respectively. Also, the nozzle pitch was one of the important factors in the twin spray characteristics.

  • The present study aims to investigate the flow characteristics with respect to fuel type and equivalence ratio in the flame spray coating process. The flame spray flow is characterized by much complex phenomena including combustion, turbulent flows, and combined heat transfer. The present study numerically simulated the flam spray process and examined the gas dynamics involving combustion, gas temperature and velocity distributions in flame spray process by using commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code of FLUENT (ver. 13.0). In particular, we studied the effect of fuel type and equivalence ratio on thermal and flow characteristics which could substantially affect the coating performance. From the results, it was found that the gas temperature distributions were varied with different fuels because of reaction times were different according to the fuel type. The equivalence ratio also could change the spatial flame distribution and the characteristics of coated layer on the substrate.

  • In this study, Curve dependent wheel flange lubricator with grease spray type is investigated and estimated a point of view reducing wheel flange wear and noise in the curve through field test on korean rail. Advantage of curve dependent wheel flange lubricator with grease spray type is found on the basis of the result of field test in comparison with oil spray type lubricator and wheel without wheel flange lubricator on railroad in Korea.
