This paper analyzes heterogeneous distribution of branch-like structure at the downstream region of the spray. The liquid and vapor phase of the spray are obtained using a 35㎜ still camera and CCD camera in order to investigate spray structure of evaporating diesel spray. There have been many studies conducted on diesel spray structure but have yet only focused on the analyses of 2-D structure. There are a few information which is concerned with 3-D structure analysis of evaporating spray. The heterogeneous distribution of droplets in inner spray affects the mixture formation of diesel spray and the combustion characteristics of the diesel engines. In this study, the laser beam of 2-D plane was used in order to investigate 3-D structure of evaporating spray The incident laser beam was offset on the central axis of the spray. From the analysis of images taken by offset laser beam, we will examine the formation mechanism of heterogeneous distribution of the diesel spray by vortex flow at the downstream of the spray. The images of liquid and vapor phase of free spray are simultaneously taken through an exciplex fluorescence method. Through this, the branch-like structure consisting of heterogeneous distribution of the droplets forms high concentrated vapor phase at the periphery of droplets and at the spray tip.
In the present study, process optimization for thermal-sprayed Ni-based alloy coating has been performed using Taguchi method and analysis of variance(ANOVA). Ni-based alloy coatings were fabricated by flame spray process on steel substrate, and the hardness test and wear test were performed. Experiments were designed as per Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array and tests were conducted with different Oxygen gas flow, Acetylene gas flow, Powder feed rate and Spray distance. Multi response signal to noise ratio (MRSN) was calculated for the response variables and the optimum combination level of factors was obtained simultaneously using Taguchi's parametric design.
We have studied on the main causes of pressure drop in the paint hose under the spraying with airless spray pump and suggest calculation method for selecting the optimum pressure drop during the spraying. Among many factors contributing the pressure drop during the airless spraying procedure of paint, some of the key factors and the correct method for checking pressure loss between airless pump and spray gun are addressed. We have developed pressure loss calculation method which depending on hose length and diameter, viscosity and flow rate in the painting hose during the spraying. also we have developed calculation equation for the expected spray tip flow rate which depending on pressure and specific gravity and tip size.
Sintered alumina ceramic substrate has been used for the insulating substrate for thick Hybrid IC owing to its cheapness and good insulating properties. Some of thick HIC's are important to eliminate the heat emitted from the parts that are mounted on the ceramic substrate. Sintered ceramic substrate can not transfer and emit the heat efficiently. It's been tried to do plasma spray coating of alumina ceramic on the metal substrates that have a good heat emission property. The most important properties to commercialize this ceramic coated metal substrate are surface roughness and deposition efficiency. In this study, plasma spray coating parameters are optimized to minimize the surface roughness and to maximize the deposition efficiency using Taguchi experimental method. By this optimization, the deposition efficiency was greatly improved from 35% at the frist time to 75% finally.

Airless spray which is widely used for painting to ship blocks and hull sides is the coating method for attaching atomized paint material to the substrate using spray tip nozzle with compressed air. When the paint material which has high solid contents such as epoxy primer paint is atomized by passing through spray tip nozzle with high pressure, the nozzle composed of tungsten carbide(WC) undergoes the erosive wear, leading to widening of nozzle hole. The deformation of nozzle hole induces improper spray pattern and coating failures such as finger pattern and sagging because the conditions of spray pump pressure and paint flow rate for developing full spray pattern are changed. In this study, an appropriate replacement cycle of spray tip was predicted by measuring the erosive wear tendency as increasing the spraying time of epoxy primer paint.
The purpose of this study is to analyze heterogeneous distribution of branch-like structure at downstream region of inner spray. The previous many studies about diesel spray structure have yet stayed in the analysis of 2-D structure, and there are very few of informations which are concerned with 3-D analysis of the structure. The heterogeneous distribution of droplets in inner spray affects the mixture formation of diesel spray, and also the combustion characteristics of the diesel engines. Therefore, in order to investigate 3-D structure of evaporative spray the laser beam of 2-D plane was used in this study. Liquid fuel was injected from a single-hole nozzle (l/d=5) into a constant-volume vessel under high pressure and temperature in order to visualize the spray phenomena. The incident laser beam was offset on the central axis. From the images analysis taken by offset of laser beam, we examine formation mechanism of heterogeneous distribution by vortex flow at the downstream of the diesel spray. As the experimental results, the branch-like structure formed heterogeneous distribution of the droplets consists of high concentration of vapor phase in the periphery of droplets and spray tip of branch-like structure. Also the 3-D spatial structure of the evaporative diesel spray can be verified by images obtained from 2-D measurement methods.
The optical patterantor provides the high resolution and quantitative information of the spray. Fuel distribution and Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD) can be measured from fluorescence and Mie-scat-tering images. To correct the attenuation of the laser beam and signal in dense spray region, the method to find the geometric mean of the signal intensities obtained from two cameras was evaluated and verified in a solid-cone spray. In high pressure environment, the increased number density of the droplets cause multiple scattering. The optical patternation technique using a laser beam instead of a laser sheet was applied to minimize the multiple scattering problem. The pattern of a coaxial spray was changed from hollow-cone to solid-cone shape, and the spray angle was reduced as the ambient pressure increased from 0.1 to 4.0 MPa.
This paper presents the effect of injection pressure on the atomization characteristics of high-pressure injector in a direct injection gasoline engine both experimentally and numerically. The atomization characteristics such as mean droplet size, mean velocity, and velocity distribution were measured by phase Doppler particle analyzer. The spray development, spray penetration, and global spray structure were visualized using a laser sheet method. In order to investigate the atomization process in more detail, the calculations with the LISA-DDB hybrid model were performed. The results provide the effect of injection pressure on the macroscopic and microscopic behaviors such as spray development, spray penetration, mean droplet size, and mean velocity distribution. It is revealed that the accuracy of prediction is promoted by using the LISA-DDB hybrid breakup model, comparing to the original LISA model or TAB model alone. And the characteristics of the primary and secondary breakups have been investigated by numerical approach.

An experimental investigation has been conducted to study the spray and combustion characteristics using the air-assisted twin fluid atomizer. Axial mean and fluctuating velocity components as well as drop-size distributions in non-reaction spray were measured with a nonintrusive phase doppler technique. Droplet number density distributions were also visualized using high speed CCD camera. Locations of spray and flame boundaries are obtained by direct photographic method. It is confirmed that at the fixed fuel flow rate, the increase of the atomizing air flow causes improvements on both spray and combustion characteristics under stable flame conditions. Internal group combustion modes where flame is located inside the spray boundary are observed to exist in the upstream region of higher droplet number density.

The focus of this work is placed on the analysis of the mixture formation process under the evaporative diesel-free spray conditions. In order to examine homogeneity of mixture within the vapor phase region of the injected spray, image analysis was carried out based on the entropy of statistical thermodynamics. As an experimental parameter, the injection pressure and ambient gas density were selected, and effects of the injection pressure and density variation of ambient gas on the mixture formation process in the evaporative diesel spray were investigated. In the case of application of the thermodynamic entropy analysis to evaporative diesel spray, the value of the dimensionless entropy always increases with increase in time from injection start. Consequently, the dimensionless entropy in the case of the higher injection pressure is higher than that of lower injection pressure during initial injection period.
