  • In this study, the effects of HP4060, a pomegranate extract, on Sprague-Dawley (SD) female rats were investigated. SD rats used in the experiment were divided into 3 groups: a control group, 100 mg HP4060/kg rat powder fed group, and 25 mg HP4060/kg rat liquid fed group. After 20 days of administration, the changes of the brain neurotransmitters were measured. The data showed that the concentration of the serotonin and the norepinephrine were increased, whereas that of the epinephrine was decreased in HP4060 administered groups. In addition, the improving effect of HP4060 on depression symptom of menopause women were shown by increased immobility time of the SD rates in a separate experiment. The uterus weight of HP4060 fed groups were also shown to be increased. In order to monitor toxic effect of HP4060, glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT) levels were measured, and the results showed that no significant difference in GOT and GPT levels among experimental groups implying no significant toxic side effects of HP4060. According to these results, it seems clear that HP4060 may improve symptoms of hot flush and depression caused by menopause without significant level of toxic effects.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of non-obese MAFLD on the gut microbiota and metabolic pathways caused by high-temperature processed meals. It was decided to divide the eighteen male Sprague-Dawley rats into three groups: the control group, the dry-fried soybeans (DFS) group, and the high-fat diet (HFD) group. Following the passage of twelve weeks, a series of physical, biochemical, histological, and microbiological examinations were carried out. There were distinct pathological abnormalities brought about by each diet. The DFS diet was found to cause the development of fatty liver and to demonstrate strong relationships between components of the gut microbiota, such as Akkermansia and Mucispirillum, and indices of liver health. Diet-induced changes in the gut microbiome have a significant impact on liver pathology in non-obese patients with metabolically altered liver disease (MAFLD), which suggests that dietary interventions that target gut microbiota could be used to manage or prevent the illness.

  • Exposure of testis to 2-BP is known to cause degeneration of male germ cells. However, the mechanism underlying this process is poorly understood. The objective of this study was to determine whether 2-BP induces apoptosis during onset of toxicity in germ cells of male Sprague-Dawley rats.(omitted)

  • Abstract The protective effects of physostigmine against the toxicity of parathion (diethyl-4-nitrophenyl phosphorothionate) were examined in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Physostigmine (100 or 1,000 ㎎/㎏, ip) injected 30 min before decreased the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities in brain, lung and blood induced by parathion (2 ㎎/㎏, ip).(omitted)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the biocompatibility of AH 26, AH Plus, Pulp Canal Sealer, Adseal-1 and Adseal-2(newly developed resin-based sealers) using subcutaneous implantation test. 64 Sprague-Dawley rats were used. Three rats were used for each sealer for every experimental period (1, 2, 4, 12 weeks). The teflon tubes (5mm length, 1.5mm diameter) were washed with ethanol and distilled water and autoclaved. After anethesia four subcutaneous pockets (depth > 10mm) were prepared in each animal.(omitted)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of red ginseng extract on development of pepsinogen 1 decrased pyloric glands in experimental stomach carcinogenesis in Sprague-Dawley male rats. Sequential quantitative analyses (by ABC immunohistochemical staining) were made of pepsinogen 1 decreased pyloric glands (PDPG) after treating rats first with a single dose (160 mg/kg) N-methyl-N'-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) and then with N-ethyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (ENNG) (100ug/ml of drinking water) as a second gastric carcinogen (or promoter).

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the potential subacute toxicity of plant sterol esters by a 4-week repeated oral dose in Sprague-Dawley rats. The test article was administered once daily by gavage to rats at dose levels of 0, 1000, 3000, and 9000 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks. During the test period, clinical sign, mortality, body weights, food and water consumption, ophthalmoscopy, urinalysis, hematology, serum biochemistry, gross finding, organ weight, and histopathology were evaluated. A reduction in the body weight was observed in females of the 9000 mg/kg group on day 27 after the initiation of treatment, but not in males of the group. There were no treatment-related effects on mortality, clinical sign, food and water consumption, ophthalmoscopy, urinarlysis, hematology, serum biochemistry, necropsy findings, organ weights, and histopathology in any treatment group. Based on these results, it was concluded that the 4-week repeated oral dose of plant sterol esters resulted in suppressed body weight in female rats at a dose level of 9000 mg/kg/day. In the condition of this study, target organ was not observed and the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) was considered to be 9000 mg/kg/day for males and 5000 mg/kg/day for females.
