A Study on Leisure Life in Accordance with Gender (성별에 따른 여가생활에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic information necessary for improving the satisfaction and quality of leisure life and thereon propose better leisure life programs in accordance with gender. For the purpose, this researcher made a questionnaire survey of 560 persons between July and December 2003 to know the trend and satisfaction of their leisure life in accordance with their gender. Results of the study can be summarized as below; First. the extent to which the surveyed persons participated in leisure life was highest in terms of other leisure activities, followed by self-development. viewing activities, sports activities and journey in order. The satisfaction of leisure life participation by those surveyed persons was scored 3 or over in average, meaning 'generally satisfied'. The time of leisure life participation was most spent in other leisure activities and self-development. Expenses of the participation were highest in terms of other leisure activities. followed by self-development and viewing activities in order. Second, differences in sub-areas of leisure life were analyzed in accordance with gender to show that the degree and time of participation in viewing activities and self-development, expenses of sports activity participation and the degree of participation in journey and others were significantly different between the opposite sexes which were surveyed here. Men were higher in the degree, time and expenses of the participation than women. Third. effects of gender on the satisfaction of leisure life as a whole were determined here to show that men were higher in such satisfaction when they were more satisfactorily participating in sport activities while in case of women, when they were spending more time in sport activities. Women showed a higher satisfaction of leisure life as a whole when they were more frequently and satisfactorily participating in other leisure activities. Based on these results, the researcher proposed effective leisure life programs in accordance with gender.

Effects of Participation in Contact Sports on Neurocognitive Scores and Dual-Task Walking in Retired Athletes (접촉스포츠 참여가 은퇴 선수의 신경인지 점수와 이중과제 보행에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of participation in contact sports on neurocognitive scores, dual-task walking velocity, and cognitive costs in retired athletes. Method: Forty-four retired athletes (mean age = 26.4±5.5 yrs) and thirty-eight controls (mean age = 26.1±4.9 yrs) participated in this study. Neurocognitive score was collected using computerized neurocognitive testing using RehaCom. Gait velocity was collected one single task, four dual-tasks, and two multi-tasks using Optogait. Mann-Whitney U test was performed to compared differences in cognitive scores among groups. A mixed-design two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni posthoc test were used to assess the effect of group and walking tasks for each condition. Results: The auditory divided attention of neurocognitive score of retired athletes was higher than the control group (p < 0.05). No statistical differences were observed in the other neurocognitive scores between groups. The changes in walking velocity and cognitive costs according to the dual-task walking tests differed between the two groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Although participation in contact sports did not affect the neurocognitive results of retired athletes, it could be confirmed that the reduction in walking velocity and an increase in cognitive costs during dual-task walking. Rather than observing only neurocognitive scores as a single evaluation item for cognitive evaluation of retired athletes in relation to daily life, the application of the dual-task gait test may provide useful information.

Assessment of the Global Rating of Knee Function in Patients Following Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of the global rating of knee function as a measure of participation restrictions experienced during activities of daily living and sports by patients with a history of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Forty-three subjects (33 males, 10 females, age=20.3 ± 1.3 years), at a mean of 31.2 ± 14.4 months following ACLR, participated in this study. During testing, subjects were first asked to provide a global rating of function by assessing their level of knee function on a 0 to 100 scale, with 0 points representing complete loss of function due to their knee injury and 100 points representing their level of function prior to their knee injury. After providing a global rating of function, subjects completed the Knee Outcome Survey (KOS) Activities of Daily Living Scale (ADLS) and Sports Activity Scale (SAS), which served as the measure of participation restrictions in this study. Results: Pearson product correlations revealed moderate relationships between the global rating of function and the ADLS (r=0.66, p<0.0001) and SAS (r=0.69, p<0.0001). Conclusions: The global rating of knee function provides a valid measure of participation restrictions experienced during activities of daily living and sports by patients with a history of ACLR.

The Effects of Physical Education Class Participation and Perception on Stress and School Life Adaptation

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between stress and school life adaptation according to the degree of participation in physical education class and perception of middle school students. In order to achieve this research objective, the subjects of this study were sampled using cluster random sampling from male and female students attending middle schools in Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeollanam-do in 2020. 150 males and 150 females, a total of 300 people were sampled. The statistical analysis used for data analysis was frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS Windows 21.0 Version. The conclusions obtained in this study through data analysis by such methods and procedures are as follows. First, it was found that middle school students' participation in physical education classes and perceptions had a partial effect on stress. Second, it was found that the degree of participation and awareness of middle school students' physical education class had a partial effect on their adaptation to school life. Third, middle school students' stress was found to have a partial effect on school life adaptation.

Testing Differences of Leisure Satisfaction by Demogrpahic Characteristics of MTB participants

  • Purpose: Mountain biking as a sport and recreational activity has grown rapidly over the previous two decades. The purpose of this study is to analyze differences of leisure satisfaction by demographic characteristics of mountain bike participants. Research design, data, and methodology: To accomplish the purpose, the study employed purposive sample method among nonprobability sampling and collected data from 300 participants. Of collected data, 288 responses were analyzed excepted for uncompleted responses. To analyze data, study utilized statistical techniques including descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, independent-sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA, and to verify difference between individual groups in relation to significant results, Duncan's multiple range was conducted. Results: Findings indicated no differences of leisure satisfaction by gender. Similarly, education level and occupations have not influence leisure satisfaction. Yet, differences of leisure satisfaction by participation frequencies were observed. Of participation frequencies, participants riding 5 times a week were more satisfied with MTB participation than the other groups participating less 3 times a week. Conclusions: The findings provide a couple of insights in terms of promoting MTB participation. In specific, results indicated that MTB would be attractive sports that is able to appeal huge populations regardless of their education and occupation. Furthermore, consistent participation is judged an effective way to increase psychological, educational, and social satisfaction. In this sense, regional MTB clubs could play a salient role in motivating riders to more participate in MTB. Hence, establishing strategies for encouraging club activities are needed.

Association between Physical Activities and Subjective Well-being among Korea Adolescent (청소년의 신체활동과 주관적 행복감 간의 관련성)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between participation in physical activities (PA) and subjective well-being. Methods: We analyzed the data from Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, 2013 containing 36,655 and 35,780 for male and female students respectively. Study variables included PA, participation in physical education class, participation in team sports and subjective well-being. Control variables were school type, socio-economic status, level of parent education, living with parent, academic performance, delinquent behaviors, depression and perceived health. For this study, descriptive analysis, Chi-square test, and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed. Results: Among boys, after adjusting for control variables, PA (past 7 days 0 time reference group vs. over 4 times: OR 1.306), physical education class (past 7 days 0 time reference group vs. over 3 times: OR 1.140), and team sports (no team reference group vs. 2 team: OR 1.206) were associated with subjective well-being. Among girls, control variables were adjusted. PA (past 7 days 0 time reference group vs over 4 times: OR 1.244), physical education class (past 7 days 0 time reference group vs. over 3 times: OR 1.161), and team sports (no team reference group vs. 2 team: OR 1.181) were associated with subjective well-being. Conclusions: Participation in physical activities may help adolescent promote their life satisfaction. Thus, education experts should develop various exercise curriculums to encourage participation in physical activities.

Effect of Participation in Regular Leisure Sports on Satisfaction with Family Relationship in Adolescents (청소년의 규칙적인 여가스포츠 참여가 가족관계 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of participation in regular leisure sports on satisfaction with family relationship in adolescents. To achieve this purpose, 650 students of elementary and middle schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi area were selected and surveyed using the purposive sampling method. 611 survey samples were used in final analysis and 39 survey samples were excluded because of untrustworthy response. Statistical program AMOS 18.0 was used to conduct the confirmatory factor analysis and goodness of fit test, and SPSS 21.0 Window program was used to conduct analysis of frequency, t-test, and ANOVA. Through the analysis, the main findings were as follows; First, it was found that the adolescents participating in regular leisure sports has significant difference in satisfaction with family relationships compared to non-participation group. Second, satisfaction with family relationship of parental participation group in regular leisure sport was high the most followed by lonely participation group and non-participation group. Finally, authors described the implications and future studies.

The Effect of Presence for Virtual Reality Sports Use Activation on Participation Satisfaction (가상현실 스포츠 이용 활성화를 위한 프레즌스이 참여만족에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference in the effect of presence for the activation of virtual reality sports on participation satisfaction, to suggest continuous screen golf exercise participation, and to provide empirical and academic data for the development of the entire virtual reality sports market. To achieve this purpose, the survey period was from March 13 to May 13, 2020, with five researchers and assistants. The purpose of this study and the questionnaire were fully explained to consumers who experienced screen golf directly, and 247 questionnaires were used as the final valid sample by making a questionnaire with self-administration method. The data processing method was the statistical program Windows SPSS 18.0. First, factor analysis and reliability analysis, second, frequency analysis mean(M) and standard deviation(SD), third, Scheffe analysis among t-test and One-way ANOVA analysis, fourth, correlation analysis between variables and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The results of this study through these methods and procedures are as follows. First, there was a significant difference in participation satisfaction of presence in gender, and participation period of general characteristics. Second, there was a high difference in social presence, social self-reliance, and Ego, which are sub-factors of Presence, in social satisfaction, psychological satisfaction, and physical satisfaction. Third, the sub-factors of Presence, Social Presence, Social Self-Reliance, and Ego, were found to have a high effect on the sub-factors of Participation Satisfaction, Social Satisfaction, and Psychological Satisfaction.

A Study on Technology Acceptance Plans to Expand Direct Participation in the Sports Industry (스포츠 산업의 직접 참여 확대를 위한 기술수용 방안 연구)

  • This study seeks to find a way to induce users to expand their direct participation in sports through the acceptance of digital technology. From July 1 to August 30, 2022, a survey was conducted targeting home training users who applied the Internet of Things (IoT). 129 people participated in the survey through non-face-to-face self-administration method. For data processing, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and 3-step mediation regression analysis were conducted using IBM's SPSS 21.0 program. The results of the study are as follows. First, in the relationship between the home training PPM model and direct participation in sports, ease appeared to have a mediating effect. In the factors of push, simple functionality showed a complete mediating effect, and inefficiency showed a partial mediating effect. Among pull factors, enjoyment and possibility of experience showed a complete mediating effect. In the mooring factors, individual innovativeness showed a complete mediating effect. Second, in the relationship between home training PPM model and direct participation in sports, usefulness showed a mediating effect. In the factors of push, simple functionality showed a complete mediating effect, and inefficiency showed a partial mediating effect. Among pull factors, enjoyment and possibility of experience showed a complete mediating effect. Among the mooring factors, individual innovativeness showed a partial mediating effect. Through this research, it is expected that the sports industry will contribute to the expansion of consumption expenditure and economic growth through the expansion of digital technologies such as NFT, Metaverse, and virtual/augmented reality.

An Extraction and Analysis of the Candidated Promising Sports Industries for National Sports Technology Policy (스포츠 기술정책을 위한 유망 스포츠산업 후보군의 도출 및 분석)

  • The sports industry is expected to develop into a huge business through convergence with existing industries such as the broadcasting/information communications, health/medicine, and entertainment/leisure. This paper aims to extract and analyse the candidated promising sports industries at the national level in order to promote them in the long term, and adopts a policy-based approach to such efforts. To extract promising sports industries at the national level, a methodology that considers economic effects such as global competitiveness, technological characteristics, and the creation of jobs, as well as technical development projects, should be adopted. In this study, It was extracted 59 candidated promising sports industries using literature review and expert opinions. As a result of in-depth survey, we found some critical implications each area as follows; health club operation in the lifetime and participation sports area, female sports dance in the welfare sports area, new material sports shoes in the lifetime and welfare sports area, and dynamic training system in the professional sports area.
