The purpose of this study was to find the biomechanical research project result carried out at 2011 IAAF World championship in Daegu. This project was approved by the International Amateur Athletic Federation(IAAF) and financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism(MCST) and, Korea Association of Athletics Federations(KAAF). The total number of the project members was 20, including the members of the Scientific Committee, the Korean Society of Sport Biomechanics(KSSB) and graduate students as assistants. The objective of this project has been to analyze the performance in the track events(100 m, 110 mH) and field events(Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault, Javelin Throw and Shot Put). This project was focused on the biomechanical research only. This kind of analysis has been carried out at major competitions for more than a decade, as it provides coaches and athletes with very useful information as an aid to training programmes and competition preparation. The biomechanical analysis of the top athletes in the world in each specialty serves as a reference for assessing technique and rationalizing the results achieved. The results will be disseminated world-wide and coaches will be in a better position to design training strategies in line with current world trends.
The purpose of this study was to verify the difference in biomechanical variation and pattern of the lower limb between planned and unexpected termination, which is related to the prevention of fatal fall in the elderly. Therefore, selected twenty subjects for each group which composed of females(age: $73.5{\pm}4.63$ year, height: $153.2{\pm}6.46$ cm, body mass: $58.98{\pm}5.82$ kg) and women(age: $23.4{\pm}2.5$ year, height: $164.65{\pm}3.9$ cm, body mass: $58.47{\pm}5.53$ kg) in their twenties. As a result, lower limb's extension moment and power were increased significantly in statistics(p<.05). Also, knee joint power showed instant changes from concentric contraction to eccentric contraction and hip joint power from eccentric contraction to concentric contraction. During unexpected termination there were dramatical increase in eccentric contraction and power(p<.05). In both planned and unexpected termination, ankle joint moment were higher in young group, but the moment of the hip joint were higher in the elderly group(p<.05). In contrast to younger group, there were no changes in knee extension moment in elderly group(p<.05). but showed relatively higher hip joint extension moment and power(p<.05).

Objective: The horizontal bar of gymnastics is fundamentally based on rotational movements. This study aimed to determine the effect of kinematics variables and sequence during horizontal bar performance (Kovacs, Tkatchev Stretched & Kolman) in gymnastic. Method: Four gymnastics athletes of the national team were participated in this study. All subjects were asked to perform the three types of horizontal bar skill. Simi marker-less cameras were used to collect the raw data (120 Hz). Kinematic variables (total time, interval, center of mass, height, angular velocity etc.) and sequence variables were calculated to examine the differences. Results: As a result, horizontal bar performance in gymnastic has special sequence that making the peak angular velocity from distal joint to proximal joint (knee-hip-shoulder). It is rare sequence that typical sport does not have. Conclusion: In field, gymnastic coaches and players should know the result that there is special sequence in horizontal bar performance. It could be very useful to teach and enhance their performance.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect that various loads have on the lower limb biomechanics. The following variables were measured and analyzed; performance time for each phase, lower limb moments and joint angles, and ground reaction forces. The kinematic and kinetic data was recorded by 2 force platforms and a motion capture system while 12 healthy adults in their twenties stepped down three steps under loads of 0%, 10%, 20% BW. Results are as follows. First, the different loading conditions did not seem to significantly affect the performance times and the joint angles. Second, the largest ground reaction forces were observed at the 1 step at the 10% BW condition. Finally, at the 0% BW loading condition the right hip extension moment was the smallest and the left hip flexion moment was the largest. The results show that there are not any significant changes in the biomechanics of the lower limbs under loading conditions up to 20% BW. Further investigations including more loading conditions with more weights and more additional steps analyzed are needed.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify recent domestic and international research trends regarding shoes carried out in biomechanics field and to suggest the direction of shoe research later. Method: To achieve this goal of research, the Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Korea Education and Research Information Service and Korean Citation Index were searched to identify trends in 64 domestic and international research. Also, classified into the interaction of the human body, usability evaluation of functional shoes, smart shoe development research, and suggested the following are the suggestions for future research directions. Conclusion: A study for the coordination of muscle activity, control of motion and prevention of injury should be sought by developing shoes of eco-friendly materials, and scientific evidence such as physical aspects, materials, floor shapes and friction should be supported. Second, a study on elite athletes in various sports is needed based on functional shoes using new materials to improve their performance along with cooperation in muscle activities and prevention of injury. Third, various information and energy production are possible in real time through human behavioral information, and the application of Human Machine Interface (HMI) technology through shoe-sensor-human interaction should be explored.
Objective: The relationship between the rest intervals during physical tasks and performance enhancement has been studied. However, whether or not different rest intervals would result in altered multiplanar ankle kinematics during performance of the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) is unknown. Method: Fifteen healthy subjects (7 males and 8 females) without a history of ankle injuries were participated in this study. 3 rest intervals of 10, 20, and 40 seconds were used during the current study. Three visits were required in order to complete the 3 rest intervals. Variables of interest included dorsiflexion (DF) excursion, tibial internal rotation (TIR), and eversion (EV) excursions. The means of ankle angular excursions were compared across the 3 directions in the 3 rest interval groups. Results: There were no significant main effects for any variables between restintervals. However, DF excursion in the anteromedial (AM) direction was greaterthan in both the medial (M) and posteromedial (PM) directions and was greater in the M direction compared to the PM direction. TIR excursion in the AM direction was less than in both the M and PM directions. Conclusion: Different rest intervals ranging from 10 to 40 seconds did not influence ankle angular excursions during the SEBT in a healthy population. However, our results suggest that multiplanar motion is necessary during the SEBT and differs depending on the direction of movement.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to provide quantitative and objective data of throwing movement in baseball catcher through biomechanical analysis. Method: Eight high school baseball catchers (age: 17.3±0.7 yrs, height: 175.3±4.5 cm, weight: 82.5±9.0 kg, Career: 7.4±2.1 yrs) participated and 3-dimentional motion capture system and electromyography (EMG) were used in this study. Results: The maximum center of mass position displacement was observed in forward direction. The linear velocity magnitude of the upper extremity segments were showed as "wrist>elbow>shoulder" which is indicative of kinematic chain. For kinetic EMG data, we also observed the greater muscle activation in the left brachioradial and erector spine muscles muscle that during throwing movement. Conclusion: We expect that biomechanical data from this study will provide important training implications to baseball coaches and trainers in order to effectively train their baseball catchers.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to apply a general linear model in statistics to marker position vectors used to study human joint rotational motion in biomechanics. Method: For this purpose, a linear model that represents the effect of the center of hip joint rotation and the rotation of the marker position on the response was formulated. Five male subjects performed hip joint functional motions, and the positions of nine markers attached on the thigh with respect to the pelvic coordinate system were acquired at the same time. With the nine marker positions, the center of hip joint rotation and marker positions on the thigh were estimated as parameters in the general linear model. Results: After examining the fitted model, this model did not fit the data appropriately. Conclusion: A refined model is required to take into account specific characteristics of longitudinal data and other covariates such as soft tissue artefacts.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to confirm that the cross-country ski sprint course in PyeongChang, where the 2018 Winter Olympics course was to utilize wearable devices equipped with inertial measurement unit (IMU), global positioning system (GPS) and heart rates sensor. Method: For the data collection, two national level cross-country (XC) skiers performed classic technique on the entire sprint course. We analyzed cycle characteristics, range of motion on double poling (DP) technique, average velocity, and displacement of 3 points according to the terrain. Results: The absolute cycle time gradually decreased during starting, middle and finish sections. While the length of the DP increased and the heart rates tended to increase for men skier. In addition, the results indicated that range of motion of knee joint during starting and finish section decreased more than middle section. The errors of latitude and longitude data collected through GPS were within 3 m from 3 points. Conclusion: Through the first case study in Korea, which analyzed the location and condition of XC skiers in the entire sprint course in real time, confirmed that feedback was available in the field using various wearable sensors.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the projectile factors and biomechanical characteristics of men's hammer throwing during turning phases. Four national leveled athletes including Korea national record holder participated in this study. After full warm-up, each participant performed 6 trials of hammer throwing with their best. The best recorded trial was selected from each participant and they were analyzed for this study. Three-Dimensional motion analysis using a system of 5 video cameras at a sampling frequency 60Hz was performed for this study. As the number of turns increased, athletes revealed following characteristics. 1) The single and double support time decreased. 2) The rotation foot was closed to axis foot and it revealed greater medio-lateral displacement than that of horizontal one. 3) At the transition point from double support to single support, ball was in front of rotation foot so that not much angular velocity obtained. For the projectile factors, projectile angle did not show differences while projectile height and velocity revealed differences among the participants. It may indicated that each athlete has different fitness and skill level to resist centrifugal force which become larger as the number of turn increased.
