  • The heavy ion accelerator that will be built in Daejeon, Korea utilizes superconducting cavities operating in 2 K. The cavities are QWR (quarter wave resonator), HWR (half wave resonator), SSR1 (sing spoke resonator1) and SSR2. The main role of the cryomodule is supplying thermal insulation for cryogenic operation of the cavities and maintaining cavities' alignment. Thermal and structural consideration such as thermal load by heat leak and heat generation, cryogenic fluid management, thermal contraction, and so on. This paper describes detailed design considerations and current results have being done including thermal load estimation, cryogenic flow piping, pressure relief system, and so on.

  • Small axial fans have become widely used as cooling devices in recent years. Because of their increasing importance, studies have been conducted on ways to improve the performance and reduce the noise of such fans. In this report, a small axial fan with a diameter of 85 mm (a type popularity used in personal computer or workstation) was selected for further examination. The influence on aerodynamic performance and noise of such frame design parameters as blade tip clearance results in a decrease of discrete frequency noise and an increase of broad-spectrum noise. As for the most suitable design refinement in terms of fan efficiency, we found that the treatment of outlet corner roundness and altering spoke skew to the direction counter to that of fan rotation was effective.

  • This study investigated the difference between infant verbal and nonverbal interactions with a partner (teacher or peer). The subjects were 20 two-year-old infants 00 boys and 10 girls, mean age 31.3 months). Verbal and nonverbal interactions were videotaped during one hour of indoor free play per child in the Center. In verbal interaction, (1) boys spoke to themselves more than girls did, and (2) girls gave orders (imperatives, requests, and prohibitions) to peers and teachers more than boys did. In non-verbal interactions, (1) girls nodded to teachers more than boys did, (2) boys came closer to peers more than girls did, and (3) girls refused by gestures to peers more than boys did. In conclusion, the majority of the boys could be classified as peer-oriented and physically active in their interactions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of bilingualism on children's selective attentional ability by comparing Korean-Chinese bilingual with Chinese monolinguals in China. The subjects were 71 children, 4 and 5 years of age, 38 of whom were bilingual while 33 were monolingual. Bilingual children spoke Korean at home but Chinese in the community and at preschool. The instrument used to measure children's selective attentional ability was DCCST (Dimensional Change Card Sorting Task) and ANT (Attentional Network Test). Results showed that bilingual children were more advanced than monolingual in selective attentional ability.

  • This study were conducted to reveal the awareness and competitiveness of Korean packaging industry in information technology(IT) and e-commerce. For the survey, 114 sample companies were selected representing all packaging materials, equipment and systems, institutes, consulting and trading companies. The trained interviewers spoke to the respondents who were at the position of packaging research and development and were considered knowledgeable about the level of IT in the company. The collected data were analyze in three major categories: IT fundamentals, usages, and company policy. From the results, packaging suppliers were at the very low level of IT fundamentals and uses compared to those of packaging users. The gap between packaging suppliers and users that access the Internet was seriously wide, and this trend was generally due to different size of company. Packaging suppliers were still at the basic level of information-oriented working environment.

  • The differences in French Intonation between French and Korean learners can be applied to French intonation education. One native French speaker and three native Korean speakers who learned French language at High school were selected for this study. The subjects spoke test phrases based on the different syntactic structures. High-Speed speech Analysis system(RILP) was used for this experiment. The different intonation curves were showed at the end of phrase and at the beginning of phrase between French and Korean learners. At the end of phrases, French intonation appeared to have increasing and decending pitch contours in the case of wh-question, exclamation and finality. However, Korean learner's intonation showed only increasing pitch contours. At the beginning of phrase, French intonation shows decending pitch contours in the case of minor continuation and command. In contrast, Korean learner's intonation appeared to have increasing pitch contours. The new intonation training system using PC can have great effect on education of French as a second language.

  • This study examined. the acculturation type and adjustment of 914 Korean-Chinese adolescents living in Shenyang and Harbin, China. Adolescents completed a questionnaire consisted of items regarding acculturation, school adjustment, expectation of education, and internal locus of control: The results are summarized as follows: 1) Adolescents in Shenyang spoke more chinese and showed lower internal locus of control than adolescents in Harbin. 2) Adolescents in Shenyang showed more integration and assimilation types, while adoelscents in Harbin showed more separation type. 3) Adolescents in Shenyang showed difference in their adjustment across acculturation types, while adolescents in Harbin did not. In Shenyang, adolescents of integration and assimilation showed higher expectation of education, and adolescents of separation revealed higher internal locus of control.

  • The world economy has came into unlimited competition with globalization since 1990. Opening markets to the world is in progress through the expansion of world free trade and internationalization of multinational enterprises. In the maritime transportation for world trade, shipping companies pursue "Hub & Spoke" strategy so a port which is not able to be located as a hub port is degraded as a feeder port. To attract shipping companies, it is necessary for existing ports to provide differentiated service. This paper devises marketing strategies for a competitive port after evaluating relation among the factors affecting port selection when a shipping company chooses a port of call. On the basis of determinants derived from existing researches, we study the relation as well as importance among the factors of port selection.

  • Bandwidth Trading(BT) represents a potential market with over 1 trillion USD across the world and high growth potential. BT is also likely to accelerate globalization of the telecommunications industry and massive restructuring driven by unbundling rush. However, systematic researches on BT remain at an infant stage. This study starts with structure analysis of the Internet industry, and discusses significance of Internet interconnection with respect to BT Issues. We also describe the bandwidth commoditization trends and review technical requirements for effective Internet interconnection with BT capability. Taking a step further, this study explores the possibility of improving efficiency of network providers and increasing user convenience by developing an architectural prototype of Hub-&-Spoke interconnection model required to facilitate BT. The BT market provides an Innovative base to ease rigidity of two-party contract and Increase service efficiency. However, as fair, efficient operation by third party is required, this research finally proposes an exchanging hub named NIBX(New Internet Business eXchange).

  • An experimental study was made of turbulent separated and reattaching flow over a blunt body, where unsteady wake was generated by a spoke wheel-type wake generator with cylindrical rods. The influence of unsteady wake was scrutinized by altering the rotating direction (CW and CCW) and the normalized passing frequency (0 St$\_$H/ 0.20). The Reynolds number based on the cylindrical rod was Re$\_$d/=375. A phase-averaging technique was employed to characterize the unsteady wake. The effect of different rotating directions was examined in detail, which gave a significant reduction of x$\_$R/. The wall pressure fluctuations on the blunt body were analysed in terms of the spectrum and the coherence.
