Split Tension Fatigue Characteristics Analysis of Fatigue Tests Data for Concrete Pavements (콘크리트 포장 피로실험 데이터의 쪼갬인장 피로특성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the fatigue test data of pavement concrete. The static strength tests were carried out to check the compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tension strength at 56 days in order to minimize strength variation effect during test. The specimens were fabricated at twelves sections at a construction site of highway. The stress level and stress ratio of fatigue test were determined from static test results. The results are as follow: The flexural strength at 28 days mostly satisfied the criterion for design, but the compressive strength at 28 days were slightly below the criterion even though it satisfied at 56 days. The fatigue limit was 2 million cycles if the specimen was not failed to that cycles. The S-N curves were developed from the fatigue test results at each stress levels and each stress ratio. Then, the fatigue life of pavement concrete at a given stress level and fatigue strength of pavement concrete could be derived from these curves. Analysis using method No.2 was more acceptable because resulting of comparison and analysis using method No.2 was presented 2 sections were presented $R^2$ < 0.7, and other 2 sections were presented 0.7 < $R^2$ < 0.8, and the others 8 sections were $R^2{\geq}0.8$.

  • The crashworthiness of vehicles with finite element methods depends on the geometry modeling and the material properties. The vehicle body structures are generally composed of various members such as frames, stamped panels and deep-drawn parts from sheet metals. In order to ensure the impact characteristics of auto-body structures, the dynamic behavior of sheet metals must be examined to provide the appropriate constitutive relation. In this paper, high strain-rate tensile tests have been carried out with a tension type split Hopkinson bar apparatus specially designed for sheet metals. Experimental results from both static and dynamic tests with the tension split Hopkinson bar apparatus are interpolated to construct the Johnson-Cook and a modified Johnson-Cook equation as the constitutive relation, that should be applied to simulation of the dynamic behavior of auto-body structures. Simulation of auto-body structures has been carried out with an elasto-plastic finite element method with explicit time integration. The stress integration scheme with the plastic predictor-elastic corrector method is adopted in order to accurately keep track of the stress-strain relation for the rate-dependent model accurately. The crashworthiness of the structure with quasi-static constitutive relation is compared to the one with the rate-dependent constitutive model. Numerical simulation has been carried out for frontal frames and a hood of an automobile. Deformed shapes and the Impact energy absorption of the structure are investigated with the variation of the strain rate.

  • It is the purpose of this study to identify comprehensive fatigue characteristics of pavement concretes considering coarse aggregate types. The types of coarse aggregates considered are limestone, sandstone and granite, which are the most representative stones in Korea. The static strength tests were carried out to check the compressive strength, flexural strength at 7 and 28 days, and split tension strength at 56 day in order to minimize the various effect of strength during the test. The results are follows. The comprehensive fatigue models of pavement concretes were developed considering coarse aggregate types. The developed model showed a good relationship between aggregate types. The fatigue models with coarse aggregate types were shown, respectively. The combined fatigue models was also shown.

  • This paper discusses how steel cord and PVA hybrid fibers enhance the performance of high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (HPRFCC) in terms of elastic limit, strain hardening response and post peak of the composites. The effect of microfiber(PVA) blending ratio is presented. For this purpose flexure, direct tension and split tension tests were conducted. It was found that HFRCC specimen shows multiple cracking in the area subjected to the greatest bending tensile stress. Uniaxial tensile test confirms the range of tensile strain capacity from 0.5 to $1.5\%$ when hybrid fiber is used. The cyclic loading test results identified a unique unloading and reloading response for this ductile composite. Cyclic loading in tension appears not to affect the tensile response of the material if the uniaxial compressive strength during loading is not exceeded.

  • Filament winding process is a comparatively simple operation in which continuous reinforcements in the form of roving are wound over a rotating mandrel. And now it is well established as a versatile method for storage tanks and pipe for the chemical and other industries. In this study, tensile strength of a filament wound ring specimens were evaluated by split disk test fixture and dress disk test fixture. The results obtained from experiments were compared with the theoretical values obtained by the rule of mixture. And the purpose of this paper is to suggest an appropriate test method for the evaluation of tensile properties of filament wound structures. The tensile strength of a ring specimens tested by the dress disk test showed better agreement with the theoretical values than of a ring specimen tested by the split disk test because the stress concentration in edges of s split disk test fixture is more severe than the that of dress disk test fixture. The results showed that the tensile strength of a ring specimen was influenced by the geometry of test fixture, the continuity of fibers, fiber-tension, fiber-end and stress concentration in specimen.
