  • This paper proposes a novel transmit diversity technique, namely symbol split orthogonal transmit diversity (SS-OTD). In this technique, full path diversity and temporal diversity are achieved by combining orthogonal transmit diversity technique (OTD) technique with the symbol splitting method proposed by Meyer. Its performances is simulated for fundamental channels associated with the forward link of the IS-2000 system, and then compared with those of OTD and space-time spreading (STS). Our proposed method offers a 0.5-7.7dB performance improvement over OTD under various simulation environments and its performance is similar to STS. Moreover, compares with that of STS, the peak-to-average power ratio (PAR) of transmitted signals in SS-OTD is reduced by a maximal 1.35dB, which decreases the complexity of base station RF devices, such as power amplifiers. Thus, SS-OTD is comparable to STS in performance and superior to STS in the cost and efficiency of base station RF devices.

  • Estimating directional design hourly volume (DDHV) is an important aspect of traffic or road engineering practice. DDHV on highway without permanent traffic counters (PTCs) is usually determined by the annual average daily traffic (AADT) being multiplied by the ratio of DHV to AADT (K factor) and the directional split ratio (D factor) recommended by Korea highway capacity manual (KHCM). However, about the validity of this method has not been clearly proven. The main intent of this study is to develop more accurate and efficient DDHV estimation models for national highway in Korea. DDHV characteristics are investigated using the data from permanent traffic counters (PTCs) on national highways in Korea. A linear relationship between DDHV and AADT was identified. So DDHV estimation models using AADT were developed. The results show that the proposed models outperform the KHCM method with the mean absolute percentage errors (MAPE).

  • Uranium-thorium separation technique from shallow sediment and ${\alpha}$-source electrodeposition technique are established in the present work, and uranium series disequilibrium dating method is applied to the quaternary piston core from Sangback-do, South Sea of Korean Peninsula. The age of the piston core (depth 200~300cm) sampled from Latitude $34^{\circ}06^{\prime}37^{{\prime}{\prime}}$, Longitude $127^{\circ}37^{\prime}37^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ was determined as ranging from $9.0{\pm}2.2$ to $22.9{\pm}3.3$ Ky B.P, i.e., Later Pleistocene, older than Holocene which was stratigraphically known in the previous study. The sedimentation rate in the area is regularly increased according to the depth of the sedimentation layer. Except a few split sections of the piston core the sedimentation rates are avarage 7.2cm/1,000 years. Where sedimentation layer is deeper, then sedimentation rate tend to be slower. It must be pointed in age calculation that initial $^{230}Th/^{234}U$ radioactivity ratio is much influenced when detrital material was introduced in the sample. The $^{230}Th/^{234}U$ activity ratio measured in the present work is 0.06 at $^{232}Th=0$, and this value shows higher analytical errors because of the low· radioactivity of $^{230}Th$ in the samples.

  • Triplet(FOF or OFO) injectors are commonly applied to liquid rockets which use LOX and hydrocarbon propellants. The FOF type injector has been known to have an advantage for the although to show lower combustion performance as compared by the OFO type. However, a large disparity between oxidizer and fuel orifice diameters of the FOF type injector may reduce both the combustion efficiency and stability so that as FOOF split triplet injector which splits a single oxidizer orifice into double orifices was designed. In the present study, spray characteristics of the FOOF injector were investigated and compared with those of the FOF injector undo. cold flow conditions. Mass distributions of oxidizer and fuel for both injectors were measured by using a PLLIF (Planar Liquid Laser Induced Fluorescence)technique, and each drop size was also measured by using an instantaneous photographic method. From the experimental results, we found out that FOOF shows more stable mixing efficiencies than the FOF. As for the drop size of both oxidizer and fuel, there was not a large difference between two injector types.

  • An experiment was made in order to analyze the growth characteristics and productivity of Zoysia japonica under control, mowing and TIBA treatment conditions at the experimental farm of Kyung Hee University. The field was planned by the split plot design method and each treatment was given to two plots (40$\times$40 and 100$\times$100 mm) and was replicated three times. Each plot was 9$m^2$ for Zoysia japonica. The sampling of each plot was taken once a week after sowing. In order to know the dry matter of total standing crops, each organ of plants was kept at 9$0^{\circ}C$ and weighed. Total leaf area of a plant was measured by drawing method. The author adopted the growth analysis of English School. Holocellulose analysis by sodium chlorite method was made. The increasing rate of LAI was high in all plots between 10th and 12th week after sowing and high growth rate of assimilatory organ was observed in low density area of TIBA plot. Between 10th and 12th week after sowing all the experimental plots showed high increasing rate of standing crop and in the process of growth each density area of TIBA plot recorded high increasing rate. In all the plots F/C ratio and RGR were high when the growth rate of assimilatory organ was increasing cosiderably, and the higher the planting density was, the higher F/C ratio was recorded. In all the plots NAR recorded maximum rate before the growth period to show a high increase of RGR. In the process of the growth TIBA plot showed high icnreasing rate of NAR. CGR showed high value in high density areas of all the plots and reached its maximum in the 13th week after sowing. Compared to the other experimental areas the low planting density areas of control plot and TIBA plot showed considerable earlier lignification indicating low Holocellulose content in the growth process.

  • Multiple use forestry is capable of generating income for forest based communities through Non-Timber forest products (NTFPs) which provide food, medicine, materials for domestic use and cash income for communities adjoining forest areas in developing countries. This study evaluates the economics of producing ginger rhizomes under teak canopy in a multiple land use system during 2007 and 2008 in even aged teak plantations in Ibadan and Ife, Nigeria. Twelve $6m^2$ sample plots were randomly selected in Completely Randomized Block Design within and outside the plantation. Average ginger rhizome of (50-60 g) were planted on the slightly tilled soil. NPK 15:15:15 was applied at 180 kg/ha on a split unit dose. ANOVA, Profitability, Benefit-Cost (B/C) ratio were used to analyze data. Results showed no significant differences between sites in ginger rhizome yield, (0.089 and 0.718, ${\rho}{\leq}0.05$) in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Average yield were higher outside teak canopy in both sites and treatments, (Ibadan -40.05 g>32.9 g, Ife -67.6 g>25.2 g and Ibadan -41.3 g>31.5 g, Ife -66.8 g>25.0 g) with and without NPK respectively. NPK had no effect on yields within teak plantation, (Ibadan -31.5<32.9 g, Ife -25 g<25.2 g). Ginger rhizome production was viable financially without inorganic fertilizer during second cropping season within and outside plantation (B/C=1.02, 1.09) respectively. Ginger could be raised profitably under teak canopy, however, studies on insolation requirement of ginger under teak canopy and other tree plantations are recommended.

  • The supersonic flows around tandem cavities were investigated by two-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical simulations using the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation with the k- ω turbulence model. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves, and the acoustic effect transmitted from wake flow to upstream. The upwind TVD scheme based on the flux vector split with van Leer's limiter was used as the numerical method. Numerical calculations were performed by the parallel processing with time discretizations carried out by the 4th-order Runge- Kutta method. The aspect ratios of cavities are 3 for the first cavity and 1 for the second cavity. The ratio of cavity interval to depth is 1. The ratio of cavity width to depth is 1 in the case of three dimensional flow. The Mach number and the Reynolds number were 1.5 and $4.5{\times}10^5$, respectively. The characteristics of the dominant frequency between two- dimensional and three-dimensional flows were compared, and the characteristics of the second cavity flow due to the first cavity flow was analyzed. Both two dimensional and three dimensional flow oscillations were in the 'shear layer mode', which is based on the feedback mechanism of Rossiter's formula. However, three dimensional flow was much less turbulent than two dimensional flow, depending on whether it could inflow and outflow laterally. The dominant frequencies of the two dimensional flow and three dimensional flows coincided with Rossiter's 2nd mode frequency. The another dominant frequency of the three dimensional flow corresponded to Rossiter's 1st mode frequency.

  • The Application of Steel Fiber Shotcrete in tunneling construction has become part of tunneling practice at least since the 1970s because of its high bending and tensile properties. Over the past 3 decades, researcher from all over the world have been significantly developing the associated technologies for improved performance of SFRS. But still it has some major drawbacks in terms of durability, damage of pumping hose, wastage due to rebound concrete, corrosion and it costs high. To overcome this situation researcher has to look for some alternative material. Therefore, this part study deals with the three types of fiber in order to find good alternative for steel fiber. Polyamide and Polypropylene fiber were used in this study with 0.6, 0.5% mixing ratio. To evaluate its fresh and harden properties air content, slump, compressive, split tensile and bending strength were measured. After comparing the results of all three types of fiber reinforced concrete with its different mixing proportion this study propose that polyamide fiber with addition ratio of 0.6 % for field use.

  • Instability of bolted rock mass has been a major hazard in the underground coal mining industry for decades. Developing effective support guidelines requires understanding of complex bolted rock mass failure mechanisms. In this study, the dynamic failure behavior, mechanical behavior, and energy evolution of a laboratory-scale bolted specimens is studied by conducting laboratory static-dynamic coupled loading tests. The results showed that: (1) Under static-dynamic coupled loading, the stress-strain curve of the bolted rock mass has a significant impact velocity (strain rate) correlation, and the stress-strain curve shows rebound characteristics after the peak; (2) There is a critical strain rate in a rock mass under static-dynamic coupled loading, and it decreases exponentially with increasing pre-static load level. Bolting can significantly improve the critical strain rate of a rock mass; (3) Compared with a no-bolt rock mass, the dissipation energy ratio of the bolted rock mass decreases exponentially with increasing pre-static load level, the ultimate dynamic impact energy and dissipation energy of the bolted rock mass increase significantly, and the increasing index of the ratio of dissipation energy increases linearly with the pre-static load; (4) Based on laboratory testing and on-site microseismic and stress monitoring, a design method is proposed for a roadway bolt support against dynamic load disturbance, which provides guidance for the design of deep underground roadway anchorage supports. The research results provide new ideas for explaining the failure behavior of anchorage supports and adopting reasonable design and construction practices.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the change of chemical properities and, microorganism due to continual cropping and to find the influences to physiological disordered eggplant fruits. Accumulation of soil nutrients seemed to be increased with the plastic film house duration and decreased with soil depth. The longer the period of eggplant cultivation duration, the lower the ratio of bacteria to fungi(B/F) and actinomycetes to the fungi(A/F) in rhizosphere soils. The soil EC and available $P_2O_5$ were significally correlated with the population densities of fungi($r=0.423^{**}$) and actinomycetes($r=0.438^{**}$), respectively. The ratio of split or drupaceous fruit showed tendency to increase with low soil moisture, and that of hypertrophy fruit showed tendency to increase in fields with longer cultivation years and high soil EC. The soil EC significally correlated with the ratio of hypertrophy fruit ($r=0.719^{**}$, Y=0.210X+0.578)and total physiological disordered fruits ($r=0.656^{**}$, Y=0.769X+7.097). And value of soil (Ca+Mg)/K was correlated with the ratio of physiologically disordered fruits($R^2=0.356^{*}$, Y=-1.333Ln(X)+12.26).
