  • This study suggests that the application of split screen as visual media can attain the effect of diversity through providing rich information and accepting diverse contents as gorgeous aesthetics. Single images are analyzed as appropriate to a demanded concentration genre such as news and dramas, entertainment. In contrast, images with natural images and ads images those are more appropriate and analyzed as the genre of the split-screen which is highly efficiency to the contents and also highly efficiency to the spatial diversification. In introducing various genres of digital contents into split screen, the synergy of contents is induced by placement in consideration of the characteristics of split screen position. In order to increase the concentration of the split-screen image, using the left area and right area above it, can increase the effectiveness of the content.

  • It is tremendously important to construct decision trees to use as a tool for knowledge representation from a given decision table. However, the usual algorithms may split the decision table based on each value, which is not efficient for numerical attributes. The methodology of this paper is to split the given decision table into binary groups as like the CART algorithm, that uses binary split to work for both categorical and numerical attributes. The difference is that it uses split for each attribute established by the directed acyclic graph in a dynamic programming fashion whereas, the CART uses binary split among all considered attributes in a greedy fashion. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of binary splits in comparison with each value splits when building the decision trees. Such effect can be studied by comparing the number of nodes, local and global misclassification rate among the constructed decision trees based on three proposed algorithms.

  • Purpose - This study examines the information effect and trading behavior of investors for the 430 stock split data from January 2004 to June 2018 in the Korean stock market. Design/methodology/approach - The stock split samples are classified into two groups by split ratio as well as three groups by price level prior to split. We also investigate the trading behavior of investors categorized by institutional versus individual investors. Findings - First, we find a significantly positive information effect on the announcement day. In particular, the information effect is more distinct in the group of larger split ratio and higher price level of stocks. Second, we find a huge increase in turnover following the stock splits, which mainly results from the trading by individual investors. Also, the increase in turnover by individual investors is evident in the group of larger split ratio and higher price level of stocks. Third, the stock splits have a negative impact on the long-term stock performance. The negative buy-and-hold abnormal return(BHAR) makes no difference in the groups by split ratio as well as price level of stocks. Lastly, we find individual investors tend to buy splitted stocks, which exhibit the long-term under-performance. Research implications or Originality - The results in this paper suggest that the liquidity hypothesis is not supported in the Korean stock splits. In addition, we observe that individual investors are exposed to losses due to their unfavorable trading behavior following the stock split.

  • The split ground structure for microstrip structure can be used to protect analog/RF signal from SSN interference of digital circuits on PCB with common ground. However, the split ground structure gives rise to undesired emissions that may interfere with nearby circuitry due to the ground discontinuity. In this paper, we have proposed the modified structure, Dumbbell shaped SGS and the method to reduce the radiation by adding the lumped resistor on the proposed Dumbbell shaped SGS.

  • Objectives : In the clinical field, it is important to understand the factors that have effects on a certain disease or symptom. For this, many researchers apply Data Mining method to the clinical data that they have collected. One of the efficient methods for Data Mining is decision tree induction. Many researchers have studied to find the best split criteria of decision tree; however, various split criteria coexist. Methods : In this paper, we applied several split criteria(Information Gain, Gini Index, Chi-Square) to Sasang constitutional clinical information and compared each decision tree in order to find optimal split criteria. Results & Conclusion : We found BMI and body measurement factors are important factors to Sasang constitution by analyzing produced decision trees with different split measures. And the decision tree using information gain had the highest accuracy. However, the decision tree that produced highest accuracy is changed depending on given data. So, researcher have to try to find proper split criteria for given data by understanding attribute of the given data.

  • In this paper, we describe a permutation procedure in which we compute a resampling probability value and empirical quantile limits for Split-Half measure of internal reliability. We use the Split-Half reliability coefficient given by two simple methods, the Spearman-Brown formula and the two-part coefficient alpha. The use of a permutation test for Split-Half reliability coefficient is highlighted as a valuable tool when the sample sizes are small and necessary assumptions cannot be met. The permutation tests for Split-Half reliability coefficient are illustrated with an example analysis of two survey data with a sample size of 15 and 35, respectively, and a hypothetical data with a sample size of 5.

  • In this paper, a novel multiple access scheme using SMA(Split and Merge Algorithm) is proposed to reduce the accessdelay of wireless MAC protocols. The key idea of the SMA is to dynamically split and merge the contending terminals depending on their traffic loads for effective control of access to the channels. The SMA divides the collided terminals into several sub-groups if a collision occurs and merges the idle terminals of the split sub-groups into their original group. The merge algorithm can be used to resolve collision and split operation can be used to dynamic group management. The simulation results indicate that our algorithm may provide a higher throughput and a lower collision rate than the existing algorithms, especially under heavy traffic loads.

  • The research looks into the impact of stock split announcements on stock prices and market efficiency in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). This research uses a sample of 26 stock split announcements that occurred between 2020 and June 2021. According to the Global Industry Classification Standards, the stock split announcements covered in the study pertain to 26 businesses and 9 industries (GICS). To obtain the results, the usual event research methodology is used. The findings demonstrate significant average abnormal returns of 15.01 percent on the day the stock split news is made public and abnormal returns of 4.11 percent and -4.05 percent one day before and after the stock split announcement date, respectively. The study's findings revealed significant positive abnormal returns one day before the disclosure date, indicating information leakage, and significant negative abnormal returns the next day after the announcement date, indicating CSE informational efficiency. Because stock prices adapt so quickly to public information, these findings support the semi-strong form efficient market hypothesis, which states that investors cannot gain an abnormal return by trading in stocks on the day of the stock split announcement.

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid analysis method(HAM) based on gray-intensity information from natural scene images. The HAM is composed of GIA(Gray-intensity Information Analysis) and SMA(Split/Merge Analysis). Our experimental results show that the proposed approach is superior to conventional methods both in simple and complex images.
