Development of New Focus Control Model for Optical Disk Drives (광디스크 드라이브의 새로운 포커스 제어모델 개발)

  • There are four servo systems in a DVD drive such as a focus servo system, a tracking servo system, a sled servo system and a spindle servo system. Focus servo system maintains relative distance between lens and disk. In this paper, two plant models for the focus servo system will be presented. One of them is conventional and the other is newly developed. Focus error signal between lens and disk is detected using LDV 2 beam method. The system is observable and all states are estimated. Full states feedback controller and minimum order observed are designed using those states. Impulse responses are simulated. And experiment is performed to compare with responses of conventional model.

  • Today the demand of the optical communication components has been increased. Zirconia Ferrule has become the one of the most important elements because it determines transmission efficiency and quality of information in the optical communication system. Grinding is the major process in the ferrule manufacturing process which require high processing precision. In this reseach, specially designed spindle, chucking system, loading & unloading system and cooling system, as a supporting experimental equipment for development of an Intelligent Coaxial Grinding System (ICGS) for Zirconia Ferrule processing, is developed. We are also analized the adaptability of ICGS in practical use, through the way of evaluation for the performance of the each systems above.

  • Now a days, securing skilled workers is very difficult due to the hardworking environment. This situation will be getting worse in the future and also that makes the dies/molds industries difficult. In this research, the automatic fone polishing system which can be directly attached to the spindle of CNC machine is proposed and analyzed. The system is also controlled by the NC progra data created by CAD/CAM system. The usefulness and effectiveness of the developed system are verified more detail through some comparisons between automatic and manual polishing experiments. The experiments show that the automatic polishing is a more useful and effective process than manual one. For the application, this system can be easily used for the polishing process in the area of any fine surface.

  • The demands for robotic and automatic system are continually increasing in manufacturing fields. There have been many studies to monitor and predict the system, but they have mainly focused upon measuring cutting force, and current of motor spindle, and upon using acoustic sensor, etc. In this study, time series sequence of cutting force was acquired by taking advantage of piezoelectric type tool dynamometer. Radial cutting force was obtained from it and was available for useful observation data. The parameter was estimated using PAA(parameter adaptation algorithm) from observation data. ARMA(auto regressive moving average) model was selected for system model and second order was decided according to parameter estimation. Uncorrelation test was also carried out to verify convergence of parameter.

  • This paper presents a general description of single and dual contact tooling systems, finite element analysis, and discussions on the application of the system to the 5-head router machine which is in particular for aerospace components. This study has been performed as part of the development of the new generation 5-head router machine which is designed for high productivity. Such high productivity in essence requires high speed rotation and multiple spindles in one machine. The high speed rotation may exceed a range in a conventional single contact tooling system. The conventional tooling system is reevaluated in comparison with the dual-contact system. Finite element analysis using simplified spindle models compares major differences in the two systems. Some problems in the application to the 5-head router machine are discussed.

  • In this paper, a mathematical model for a belt driven system is proposed to analyse the vibtation characteristics of the driving units with belts and the free and forced vibration analyses are carried out. The mathematical model for model for the belt-driven system includes belts,pulleys, spindle and bearings. Using the Hamilton principle, the 4 nonlinear governing equations and the 12 nonlinear boundary conditions are derived. To linearize and discretize the nonlinear govering equations and boundary conditions, the perturbation method and Galerkin method are used. Also, the free vibration analyses for the various parameters of the belt driven system, which are belt tension, belt length, material property of belt, belt speed and pulley mass are made. The forced vibration analyses of the system are made and the dynamic responses for the main parmeters are analysed with the belt driven system.

AR model was selected for system model, fifth order was decided according to parameter estimation. Uncorrelation test was also carried out to verify convergence of parameter. Through the proceedings, we found there was a system stability.

  • This paper presents an in-process measurement system for shaft radius measurement during grinding process. This system does not require to stop the grinding process, which can enhance productivity and quality. In order to measure the radius, the system employs an eddy current sensor that can measure without any contact with the shaft. This type of sensor is very appropriate because it is insensitive to interference such as cutting fluid, coolant, contact pressure, and wear. For data analysis, the measurement system is modeled as a linearized discrete form where the states with noise are estimated by an extended Kalman filter. This system has been validated through simulations and experiments.

  • One of the most important technology in PA(Factory Automation) is to construct the diagnostic system for manufacturing process. To improve the productibility in the factory, the state of tools such as bite, drill, endmill should be monitored continuously. In this study, fuzzy logic was used to check the wear of drill in drilling process. The input variables to construct the fuzzy rules are cutting force and the rate of cutting force's change. The experiment was done with the fixed spindle speed and feed rate in cutting condition.
