  • For an orbit transfer in a space exploration mission, a solid or liquid rocket booster is included at the last stage of the launch vehicle. During the orbit transfer, thrust misalignment can cause a severe orbit error. Three axis attitude control or spin stabilization can be implemented to minimize the error. Spin stabilization technique has advantages in structural simplicity and lightness. One of ways to apply the spin stabilization to the payload is to include a spin table system in the launch vehicle. In this paper, effect of the spin table system on separation dynamics of the payload is analyzed. Simple model of the spin table to mimic basic functions is designed and simulation environment is established with the model. Effect of the spin table is tested by evaluating separation dynamics of a payload with and without the spin table. Analysis on tolerance effect of separation spring constant on separation dynamics of a payload is conducted.

  • To stabilize a satellite, a spin stabilization method is used for attitude control. The spin stabilization uses the centrifugal force of a pendulum damper which is tilted long boom, to stabilize the unstable satellite. In this paper, an inverted pendulum system is implemented which is similar to the spin stabilization method. Study on the velocity of the rotation axis and the inverted pendulum's angle stability is shown. We designed a controller using a 32bit TMS320C31 DSP for the CPU and also performances by PLD control and Sliding Mode Control is compared.

  • This paper concerns the spin-stabilization for the second stage of KSR-III(Korea Sounding Rocket-III). The error sources in the second stage are defined, and then the effect on attitude error of KSR-III is analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on the analysis, some conditions for optimal spinning frequency and optimal steady-spinning duration are suggested. Among several solutions, an optimal value can be determined in the point of minimum impact-point error. An approach to a sub-optimal solution is also suggested. Application to the KSR-III shows that a proper spinning frequency and a steady-spin duration to give the smallest impact-point error can be effectively determined.

  • High oxygen pressures appear an important tool in Solid State Chemistry. Two main routes can be developed: (i) the stabilization of thermally unstable oxides, used as precursors, in order to open the synthesis of new materials, (ii) the stabilization of the highest oxidation states of transition metals. This paper is essentially devoted to this second research axis. The methodology developed for preparing new oxides containing Fe(Ⅴ), Ir(Ⅵ), high spin Fe(Ⅳ) and Cu(Ⅲ) is described.

  • MR transfer behaviors of the permanent magnet biased spin valve MR sensors with SyAF (synthetic antiferromagnet) layers were studied by micromagnetics modeling. For narrow track MR heads, various height to width ratios were considered together with strength of permanent magnets which stabilities the free layed As the MR sensor width is reduced to $0.12 \mu{m}$, sensor height less than 0.09 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is needed to show good linearity and the Mr.t of permanent magnets smaller than 0.2 memu/$cm^2$ is sufficient for the domain stabilization. The conditions for single domain behavior of the free layer were also investigated through optimizing the biasing strength of permanent magneto the shield gap and the aspect ratio of MR sensor.

  • The combustion chamber and nozzle of an end burning, small spherical rocket is designed. A spherical external shape has a number of advantages such as fixed center-of-gravity and minimum aerodynamic precession torques during flight and a better mass distribution for gyro-stabilization as contrasted to a conventional ogive rocket shape. It is shown that the cross-sectional variation of the end burning solid propellant with length is an exponential geometry to provide a constant thrust-weight ratio of the rocket device during the propellant burning period, and that the factors which affect the attainment of the constant relationship of thrust to weight in the design are the initial propellant area, initial weight of the rocket and propellant density. The measurement of the transient thrust in the ground static test using black powder propellant supports the predicted results. A wind tunnel having a $30{\times}30{\times}75cm$ test section and Mach number 0.11 is constructed, and a simple balance-type device is designed for the measurement of the drag of a spinning sphere. The experimental results indicate that the. spinning has no effect on the magnitude of the drag up to the Reynolds number $3{\times}10^5$. Numerical computation of the flight trajectories for various launching angles is presented, and the gyro-stabilization of spinning sphere is discussed.

  • Effect of chemical substitution at the para-position of the thiophenoxyl radical has been theoretically investigated in terms of energetics, structures, charge densities and orbital shapes for the ground and first electronically excited states. It is found that the adiabatic energy gap increases when $CH_3$ or F is substituted at the para-position. This change is attributed to the stabilization of the ground state of thiophenoxyl radical through the electron-donating effect of F or $CH_3$ group as the charge or spin of the singly-occupied molecular orbital is delocalized over the entire molecule especially in the ground state whereas in the excited state it is rather localized on sulfur and little affected by chemical substitutions. Quantitative comparison of predictions based on four different quantum-mechanical calculation methods is presented.

  • In this work, we applied the 1D $11^B$ nutation NMR method for the analysis of the local structural environments in powdered borosilicates $(SiO_2-B_2O_3)$. Spin dynamics during a rf irradiation for spin I=3/2 was analytically calculated with a density ma trix formalism. Spectral simulation programs were written in MATLAB on a PC. Two borosilicates prepared by the sol-gel process at different stabilization temperature were used for the 1D $11^B$ nutation NMR experiment. The $11^B$ NMR parameters, quadrupole coupling constants $(e^2qQ/h)$ and asymmetry parameters (η), for each borosilicate were extracted from the nonlinear least-squares fitting. The effects of heat treatments on the local structures of boron sites in borosilicates were discussed.

  • The control moment gyroscope(CMG) which is well known as an effective high-torque-generating device is applicable to space vehicles, airplanes, ships, automobiles, robotics, etc. for attitude stabilization and maneuver. This paper deals with the overall details of 100Nm-class CMG development for various industrial applications, and provides the activities and results associated with the CMG system-level requirement analysis, the motor subsystem design/manufacturing/integration, the construction of ground support equipment, and the performance test and evaluation. The performance test reveals that the CMG generates the torque output more than 120Nm in as-designed operation of spin motor and gimbal motor.
