  • This paper deals with the detail rotordynamic analysis for the assembly rotor composed of turbine wheel, turbine shaft, connecting arbor, and flange & spindle in order to perform the spin test of turbocharger turbine. Prior to rotordynamic analysis, the 1st spin test was performed but the test was failed by excess vibration in the neighborhood rated speed. It is the reason for this fail that the separation margin between the rated speed and critical speed is not enough, confirmed by rotordynamic analysis results. Since then, the dimension of turbine shaft was modified and the critical speeds were again reviewed for modified assmebly rotor. In results, the separation margin between the rated speed and critical speed is over 20% and then the 2nd spin test was performed successfully. In preparing spin test for turbine, compressor wheels and etc., the geometry design of connecting arbor and dimension of rough machining should be reviewed by considering rotordynamic results, and the separation margin should be enough for successful spin test.

  • Two No Spin Differential(NSD) models were benchmarked for a project of Dual-Use Technology The Axiomatic approach was utilized to evaluate two models and to derive an evolutionary design from the evaluated results. Test methodology is developed and used to evaluate the mobility, steerability, durability and noise of the newly developed sample. The test results of NSD sample on the test methodology are very positive regarding functional performances.

  • Spin etcher can process frontside and backside on the wafer, which is used for etching, stripping, cleaning and wafer reclamation. A new generation of spin etchers has been designed to meet 300mm wafer processing. The larger header and higher spin speed make vibration problem a severe problem in developing equipments. This study shows schematic process of solving practical vibration problems, where it is required to analyze the principal ca uses of vibration problem and find out the method of vibration reduction in spin etcher. The vibration under normal operation is measured in time domain and is analyzed in frequency domain. And modal parameters are obtained through modal test. Using the modal parameters from experiments, the model of finite element method is formulated. From diagnosis using many measurements and analyses, it can be shown that main cause of vibration is unbalance of head.

  • Background and Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to validate the performance and diagnostic efficacy of the Korean digits-in-noise (K-DIN) test in comparison to the Korean speech perception-in-noise (K-SPIN) test, which is the representative speech-in-noise test in clinical practice. Subjects and Methods: Twenty-seven subjects (15 normal-hearing and 12 hearing-impaired listeners) participated. The recorded Korean 0-9 digits were used to form quasirandom digit triplets; 50 target digit triplets were presented at the most comfortable level of each subject while presenting speech-shaped background noise at various levels of signal-to-noise ratios (-12.5, -10, -5, or +5 dB). Subjects were then instructed to listen to both target and noise masker unilaterally and bilaterally through a headphone. K-SPIN test was also conducted using the same procedure as the K-DIN. After calculating their percent correct responses, K-DIN and K-SPIN results were compared using a Pearson-correlation test. Results: Results showed a statistically significant correlation between K-DIN and K-SPIN in all hearing conditions (left: r=0.814, p<0.001; right: r=0.788, p<0.001; bilateral: r=0.727, p<0.001). Moreover, the K-DIN test achieved better testing efficacy, shorter average listening time (5 min vs. 30 min), and easier performance of task according to participants' qualitative reports than the K-SPIN test. Conclusions: In this study, the Korean version of digit triplet test was validated in both normal-hearing and hearing-impaired listeners. The findings suggest that the K-DIN test can be used as a simple and time-efficient hearing-in-noise test in audiology clinics in Korea.

  • This study investigates speech perception in noise (SPIN) in Korean. A new type of Korean SPIN test was developed by adopting a similar format to the English SPIN test. The predictability effects, noise effects and their interactions were examined in order to verify the previous findings based on English. The data from 14 Korean adults collected with this new type of Korean SPIN test confirmed the previous findings: first, the participants' overall performance was better in low noise conditions than in high noise conditions. Secondly, there was a tendency for highly predictable words to be more accurately perceived than less predictable words especially in high noise conditions. The results were interpreted in such a way that the listeners actively used both types of information: acoustic information and contextual information in speech perception. When the acoustic property of the speech sound was degraded with noise, the listeners took advantage of the linguistic contextual information in their processing of the speech sound. The findings of this study conform to those of the previous studies based on the English SPIN test. In addition, a possible effect of the frequency of target word was also found, calling for further investigation in this field of research in Korean. Implications of the results were also discussed. • NSD(No Spin Differential) has been developed fer a military truck. A benchmarking study for USA and Russian NSD has been carried out. Axiomatic approach has been applied for improving the design. A test code for NSB has been developed and applied to the developed sample. In the test results of comparing the developed sample with the USA imported sample, three major characteristics-the noise, mobility and steerability - are in the range of the intended target. A practical process for the evolution design is proposed.

  • This paper presented the design of SRPS, ground function test, and the deployment test on a high speed taxi of KC-100 airplane. KAI has developed a spin recovery system in collaboration with Airborne Systems for KC-100 general aviation airplane. Spin mode analysis, rotary balance and forced oscillation tests were performed to obtain the rotational, dynamic derivatives in the preliminary design phase. Prior to the detailed design process of SRPS, approximations for initial estimation of design parameters- fineness ratio, parachute porosity, parachute canopy filling time, and deployment method- were considered. They were done based on the analytical disciplines such as aerodynamics, structures, and stability & control. SRPS consists of parachute, tractor rocket assembly for deployment, attach release mechanism (ARM) and cockpit control system. Before the installation of SRPS in KC-100 airplane, all the control functions of this system were demonstrated by using SBTB(System Breakout Test Box) in the laboratory. SBTB was used to confirm if it can detect faults, and simulate the firing of pyrotechnic devices that control the deployment and jettison of SRPS. Once confirmed normal operation of SRPS, deployment and jettison of parachute on the high speed taxiing were performed.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate image blurring according to variation of the ETL and propose the clinically appropriate ETL range. SIEMENS MAGNETOM Skyra 3.0T and 20 channel head coil were used for the study. MRI phantom was kept the lines horizontally to three direction(X,Y,Z) of the coil and T1, T2 weighted images that used the fast spin echo technique acquired. The ETL with increase of 10 was applied from 10 to 80. In addition, the ETL with increase of 1 was applied in the interval statistically significant differences occurred. And T1, T2 weighted images that used the conventional spin echo technique acquired to compare image blurring of the images that used the fast spin echo technique. The slope of lattice in the images was measured using Image J 1.47v program to evaluate image blurring. And image blurring was determined by the degree of the slope. The statistical significance of both techniques was evaluated by the Kruskal-Wallis test of the SPSS 17.0v. And the correlation of the ETL and image blurring was evaluated quantitatively by regression analysis. The slope of the T1, T2 weighted images that used fast spin echo technique decreased as contrasted with conventional spin echo technique. In the result of the Kruskal-Wallis test, the T1, T2 weighted images that used fast spin echo technique made a significant difference with conventional spin echo technique. Particularly, in the Tomhane' T2 test, the T1, T2 weighted images made a significant difference from ETL 22 and 31 respectively. In the result of the regression analysis, the R-squared of the T1, T2 weighted images are 0.762 and 0.793. It is difficult to apply the long ETL in the T1 weighted image caused by the short TR and multi-slices study. Therefore, clinical impact according to variation of the ETL is very slight in the T1 weighted images. But the application of the proper ETL is demanded in T2 weighted images using the fast spin echo technique in order to prevent image blurring.
