  • This paper proposes an object tracking system according to reliability assessment of learning in mobile environments. The proposed system is based on markerless tracking, and there are four modules which are recognition, tracking, detecting and learning module. Recognition module detects and identifies an object to be matched on current frame correspond to the database using LSH through SURF, and then this module generates a standard object information that has the best reliability of learning. The standard object information is used for evaluating and learning the object that is successful tracking in tracking module. Detecting module finds out the object based on having the best possible knowledge available among the learned objects information, when the system fails to track. The experimental results show that the proposed system is able to recognize and track the reliable objects with reliability assessment of learning for the use of mobile platform.

  • This paper deals with the simultaneous localization and mapping system using cooperative robot. For recognizing environment, swarm robot uses the ultrasonic sensors and vision sensor. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance information, and vision sensor recognizes the predefined landmark. we used SURF with excellent quality and fast matching in order to recognize landmark. Due to measurement error of sensors, we fusion them using particle filter for accurate localization and mapping. Finally, we show the feasibility of the proposed method through some experiments.

  • Techniques for making a single panoramic image using multiple pictures are widely studied in many areas such as computer vision, computer graphics, etc. The panorama image can be applied to various fields like virtual reality, robot vision areas which require wide-angled shots as an useful way to overcome the limitations such as picture-angle, resolutions, and internal informations of an image taken from a single camera. It is so much meaningful in a point that a panoramic image usually provides better immersion feeling than a plain image. Although there are many ways to build a panoramic image, most of them are using the way of extracting feature points and matching points of each images for making a single panoramic image. In addition, those methods use the RANSAC(RANdom SAmple Consensus) algorithm with matching points and the Homography matrix to transform the image. The SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) algorithm which is used in this paper to extract featuring points uses an image's black and white informations and local spatial informations. The SURF is widely being used since it is very much robust at detecting image's size, view-point changes, and additionally, faster than the SIFT(Scale Invariant Features Transform) algorithm. The SURF has a shortcoming of making an error which results in decreasing the RANSAC algorithm's performance speed when extracting image's feature points. As a result, this may increase the CPU usage occupation rate. The error of detecting matching points may role as a critical reason for disqualifying panoramic image's accuracy and lucidity. In this paper, in order to minimize errors of extracting matching points, we used $3{\times}3$ region's RGB pixel values around the matching points' coordinates to perform intermediate filtering process for removing wrong matching points. We have also presented analysis and evaluation results relating to enhanced working speed for producing a panorama image, CPU usage rate, extracted matching points' decreasing rate and accuracy.

  • In this paper, a feature based panorama image generation algorithm using FAST(Features from Accelerated Segment Test) method that is faster than SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform) and SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) is proposed. Cylindrical projection is performed to generate natural panorama images with numerous images as input. The occurred error can be minimized by applying RANSAC(Random Sample Consensus) for the matching process. When we synthesize numerous images acquired from different camera angles, we use blending techniques to compensate the distortions by the heterogeneity of border line. In that way, we could get more natural synthesized panorama image. The proposed algorithm can generate natural panorama images regardless the order of input images and tilted images. In addition, the image matching can be faster than the conventional method. As a result of the experiments, distortion was corrected and natural panorama image was generated.

  • SURF is a robust local invariant feature descriptor and has been used in many applications such as object recognition. Even though this algorithm has similar matching accuracy compared to the SIFT, which is another popular feature extraction algorithm, it has advantage in matching time. However, these descriptors do not consider relative location information of extracted interesting points to guarantee rotation invariance. Also, since they use gray image of original color image, they do not use the color information of images, either. In this paper, we propose a method for improving matching performance of SURF descriptor using the color and relative location information of interest points. The location information is built from the angles between the line connecting the centers of interest points and the orientation line constructed for the center of each interest points. For the color information, color histogram is constructed for the region of each interest point. We show the performance of our scheme through experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose a new short-circuit detecting method which can detect bad short-circuits, one of bad types occurring in PCB(Printed Circuit Board), by using SURF(Speeded-Up Robust Features) algorithm. The basic procedure in the proposed method sequentially consists of extracting features from both sample and inputted images by SURF, performing perspective transform by feature matching and matching results, extracting check areas of interest, binary coding and extracting short-circuits, and verifying results. The proposed method focuses on the robustness which can detect bad short-circuits even though the position and angle of PCB are not uniform and arbitrarily placed. Experimental results show that our method enables to detect bad short-circuits regardless of the location and angle of PCB placed variously and validate that the proposed method outperforms the conventional methods detecting bad short-circuits manually on the aspect of both the detection rate and time.

  • As an important part of the Computer Vision, the object recognition and tracking function has infinite possibilities range from motion recognition to aerospace applications. One of methods to improve accuracy of the object recognition, are uses colors which have robustness of orientation, scale and occlusion. Computational cost for extracting features can be reduced by using color. Also, for fast object recognition, predicting the location of the object recognition in a smaller area is more effective than lowering accuracy of the algorithm. In this paper, we propose a method that uses SURF descriptors which applied with color model for improving recognition accuracy and combines with Kalman filter which is Motion estimation algorithm for fast object tracking. As a result, the proposed method classified objects which have same patterns with different colors and showed fast tracking results by performing recognition in ROI which estimates future motion of an object.

  • Face recognition has been actively studied and developed in various fields. In recent years, interest point extraction algorithms mainly used for object recognition were being applied to face recognition. The SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) algorithm was used in this paper which was one of typical interest point extraction algorithms. Generally, the interest points extracted from human faces are less distinctive than the interest points extracted from objects due to the similar shapes of human faces. Thus, the accuracy of the face recognition using SURF tends to be low. In order to improve it, we propose a face recognition algorithm which performs interest point extraction by SURF and the Gabor wavelet transform to extract descriptors from the interest points. In the result, the proposed method shows around 23% better recognition accuracy than SURF-based conventional methods.

  • Image retrieval research activity has moved its focus from global descriptors to local descriptors of feature point such as SIFT. MPEG is Currently working on standardization of effective coding of location and local descriptors of feature point in the context mobile based image search driven application in the name of MPEG-7 CDVS (Compact Descriptor for Visual Search). The extracted feature points consist of two parts, location information and Descriptor. For efficient image retrieval, we proposed a novel method that is gradual block-based efficient lossy location coding to compress location information according to distribution in images. From experimental result, the number of average bits per feature point reduce 5~6% and the accuracy rate keep compared to state of the art TM 3.0.

  • Drone has been widely used for many applications ranging from amateur and leisure to professionals to get fast and accurate 3-D information of the surface of the interest. Most of commercial softwares developed for this purpose are performing automatic matching based on SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) or SURF (Speeded-Up Robust Features) using nadir-looking stereo image sets. Since, there are some situations where not only nadir and nadir-looking matching, but also nadir and oblique-looking matching is needed, the existing software for the latter case could not get good results. In this study, a matching experiment was performed to utilize images with differences in geometry. Nadir and oblique-looking images were acquired through drone for a total of 2 times. SIFT, SURF, which are feature point-based, and IMAS (Image Matching by Affine Simulation) matching techniques based on affine transformation were applied. The experiment was classified according to the identity of the geometry, and the presence or absence of a building was considered. Images with the same geometry could be matched through three matching techniques. However, for image sets with different geometry, only the IMAS method was successful with and without building areas. It was found that when performing matching for use of images with different geometry, the affine transformation-based matching technique should be applied.
