The high investment is necessary for the new high speed lines. So the KRRI has been interested in the possibility of upgrading the existing line in order to speed up the train in the conventional lines. The pantograph in train is indispensable in order to supply the electrification equipments with power in safe. The pantograph and the overhead wire form a dynamic coupled system and they affect each other through the contact force. Unfortunately, as the operational speed of a train increases, the vibration of the pantograph and the overhead wire also increases. This may lead to a zero contact force between the pantograph head and the overhead wire, which can results in the loss of contact, arching and abrasion. If the arching and spark happen between the pantograph and the overhead catenary system, the EMI(electro magnetic interface) and noises may occur. After all, the quality of current collection is deteriorated. This paper describes the dynamic response between the pantograph and catenary system by the numerical simulations and presents the LQ-servo controller to reduce the contact force variation
In reference to conventional line speed-up and improvement railway, accurate assembly of turnout affects traveling quality of turnout area and running safety. Because of heavy weight and a large volume of the long sleepers and car limit, transport and construction of the P.C(prestress concrete) sleeper turnout is the most difficult process. the prerequisite for trouble-free transport of the factory pre-assembled major turnout components is achieved through division of long sleepers. So, in this paper we investigate structural safety of segmented sleeper which is adopted for the first time to improve performance of turnout and, new construction method.
Unlike high-speed KTX trains and dual track railways, most single-track railways are not popular among passengers because of long travel hours. As a solution to the problem, tilting trains will be deployed along the conventional line. Tilting train has a mechanism that enables increased speed on regular and curved railway tracks. As a train rounds a curve at speed, objects inside the train experience centrifugal force. This can cause packages to slide about or seated passengers to feel squashed by the outboard armrest due to its centripetal force, and standing passengers to lose their balance. Tilting trains possess a top speed of up to 180 km per hour as opposed to the previous 140 km per hour, so allow the train to pass curve at higher speed without affecting passenger comfort. This paper describes the methodology study to estimate the benefits, especially on the extra benefits in case of tilting actuation.

In this study, By the time that TTX technology is adopted as railway rolling stock, we analyzed quantitatively energy saving by reducing the power consumption with the reduction of the operation time through the speed improvement and suggested the necessity to introduce TTX technology in the domestic rail vehicles. The effect of energy saving by comparing and analyzing the power consumption during the operation by TTX Hanvit 200 and 8200 electric locomotives to pull trains on the same line was suggested and the efficiency of the main devices(i.e C/I) of Hanvit 200 was compared and analyzed by measuring the power consumption by a single unit. For improving KORAIL management environment, reducing energy usage is an urgent challenge, its measures for solving them are constantly considered in many areas. In addition, at the time of improving the conventional track to speed up and changing the signals, Tilting technology will be contributed to the management environment by enlarging the passengers' demand through the reduction of the operation time and saving energy using the existing infrastructure.

Nine different types of the reinforced railroad roadbeds which . are located in between Suwon-Chunan station of Kyongbu line were constructed in order to increase the bearing capacity of railroad roadbed and to improve the ridability as a part of speed-up project of conventional railroad systems. Each three sections were composed of weathered granite soil, crushed stone and furnace slag(HMS25), and fully instrumented with earth pressure cells, settlement plates and geophones to monitor the behavior of roadbeds under actual train loads. Field measurement has continued since October 31, 2000 and presently with rather longer measurement interval. The measurement data such as settlement, earth pressure and vibration levels are currently under analysis process. In this paper, only cumulative measurement data of railroad roadbeds were introduced. In the near future, comprehensive measurement data and result of analysis will be presented and design technique for the reinforced railroad roadbed will be proposed as a final product of this study.
In this paper, By the time that the tilting technology is adopted in railway rolling stock, we analyzed quantitatively energy saving by reducing the power consumption with the reduction of the operation time through the speed improvement and suggested the necessity to introduce tilting technology in the domestic rail vehicles. To achieve this purpose, the effect of energy saving by comparing and analyzing the power consumption during the operation by TTX HANVIT 200 and 8200 electric locomotives to pull the trains on the same line was suggested and the efficiency of the main devices was compared and analyzed by measuring the power consumption by a single unit. As the energy saving is the world topic, the studies on reducing energy usage goes on constantly in many areas. In addition, as of the time to improve the conventional tracks to speed up and change the signals, Tilting technology will be contributed to the management environment by enlarging the passengers' demand through the reduction of the operation time and saving energy using the existing infrastructure.
