  • Inherent speed-torque performance of Switched Reluctance Motor is similar to that of series wound DC motor. Thus, the speed of the motor is extremely regulated according to load torque. For the purpose of controlling the speed and torque of SRM it is necessary to change the applied DC link voltage or the switch-ON and switch-OFF angles which control the phase current of the motor. This paper describes speed-torque characteristics of an integral horse power Switched Reluctance Motor by adjusting the switch-ON and switch-OFF angles. Speed at rated load torque can be regulated by adjusting the switching angles and the control scheme is applied to 2kW, 3 phase, 6/4 SRM.

Effects of blade configuration and solidity on starting torque of Darrieus wind turbine

  • This study investigates the effects of blade configuration and solidity of Darrieus wind turbine on the starting torque characteristics. Generally, the configuration of Darrieus wind turbine is divided into Troposkien, parabola, Catenary, Sandia, modified-parabola and straight types. A numerical analysis has been carried out using Multiple Stream Tube (MST) method to investigate the effect of blade configuration and solidity of Darrieus wind turbine on the starting torque under the initial low range of rotational speed. The simulation results show that the starting torque of Darrieus wind turbine varies considerably depending on the blade configuration. The initial starting torque was larger with Troposkien, Parabola, Catenary, and Sandia configurations than with modified parabola or straight types. The increase in solidity with increasing number of blades raised the starting torque and improved the dynamic stability during the initial operational speed of Darrieus wind turbine. Additionally, these torque results represent basic data for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulation of the steady-dynamic operation of the turbine.

차량용 고무 및 금속 V-벨트 CVT의 변속비-부하토크-축력특성과 성능비교 (Comparison of speed ratio-torque load-axial force characteristics and their performance for automotive rubber and metal V-belt CVT)

  • The speed ratio-torque load-axial force characteristics of a rubber V-belt (RVB) and a metal V-belt (MVB) CVT are investigated and their performances are compared. It is found that power is transmitted by tension difference in RVB, and by thrust difference in MVB. The nondimensional equations for speed ratio-torque load-axial force of RVB are exactly same as those of MVB. However, actual characteristics of axial forces of RVB and MVB are different depending on their power transmission methods. The torque capacity of MVB is 5-6 times higher than that of RVB due to MVB's higher strength, even if the required axial force of MVB CVT control is 3-4 times higher than that of RVB.

  • Productivty of tapping has been increasing through the tcchnological advances in synchronization between spindle rotation and feed motion even in the high spindle speed. However, not much researches have been conducted about tapping process because its complicate cutting mechanism. In order ta investigate the characteristics of the tapping process, this paper concentrates on the analysis of curting torque behavior during one cycle of lapping. As one completc thread is performed through the whole chamfer ercuttlng, cutting torque increases highly in chamfer cutting, but smaothly in full thread cutting Functioning of the threads guide. Cutting torque in backward cutting is smaller than in Sorwerd cutting due to only friction farce in against between the tool and workpiece. And torque behavior of a periodic Sine ripple-mark was identified during one revolution of a tap.

  • Power transmission characteristics and speed ratio-torque load-axial force relationship for a metal V-belt CVT were investigated theoretically and experimentally. In the metal V-belt CVT drive, it was found that the power was transmitted by thrust force and that band tension should be greater than compression force between the metal blocks. The experimental results for the speed ratio-torque load-axial force relationship showed good agreement with those predicted using equations developed from theoretical considerations.

  • The paper is proposed intantaneous torque control of IPMSM for drive of wide speed range. The control scheme is based on the mathematical model of the motor and is applicable to the constant torque and field weakening operations The scheme allows the motor to be driven with maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) characteristic below base speed and it maintains the maximum voltage limit of the motor wide field weakening and the motor current limit under all conditions of operation accurately. For each control mode. a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current $i_d$ for maximum torque operation is derived. The proposed control algorithm is applied to PMSM drive system for drive of wide speed range, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by simulation.

  • A dynamic model of a power shuttle transmission was developed and its validity was verified using the experimental data obtained from a transmission test bench. A 40㎾, 4WD tractor was also modeled using an application software EASY5 to investigate parameters and their effects on the power shifting performance. For a tractor model, the manual reverse gear was replaced by a power shuttle transmission. The tractor model also included an engine, main-gears for transmission, wheels, differentials and planet gears. Using the tractor model, the effects of the parameters such as modulating pressure and time, engine speed, tractor speed. tractor weight. reverse to forward speed ratio and torsional damper on the transient characteristics at starting and shuttle shifting were investigated by the computer simulation. The transient characteristics were represented by variations in clutch pressure, torque transmitted to input shaft and driving wheels, and power transmission capacity of the clutch. It was found that the modulating pressure and time affected most significantly the torque transmission and shifting time. The input torque, axle torque, power transmission capacity of the clutch and transmission time all increased with increase in engine speed, tractor speed. tractor weight and ratio of reverse to forward speeds. However, the axle torque decreased with tractor speed. Both the axle torque and power transmission capacity of the clutch also decreased with the ratio of reverse to forward speeds.

  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results.   • In this paper, a flat-type $L_{-}$-$B_{8}$ mode Ultrasonic Motor[USM] having the size of 80 x 20 x ${1.5}mm^3$($l{\times}\omega{\times}t$) was designed and fabricated to examine the characteristics of an ultrasonic vibration. We used ANSYS simulation program based on FEM to get the optimum design of this USM. As results of experiment, the fastest speed of revolution(v), the maximum torque(T) and the efficiency(n) were 37.5cm/s, 5.0 mN.m and 1.17% when 27.9KHz, 150N, 50V were applied respectively. And this flat-type $L_{-}$-$B_{8}$ mode USM could be controlled the speed of rotor revolution by applied voltage, frequency and pre-load of rotor as well as showed the characteristics of typical drooping torque-speed, large torque and high speed. So, we think that this flat-type $L_{-}$-$B_{8}$ mode USM has characteristics of enough torque and velocity to be usable for applications in forwarding device of an electric card or a paper, etc.

  • An analysis of the torque characteristics is to be expected of a twin stator induction machine with 2nd excitation is made. A twin stator induction machine has, through common rotor, 2nd excitating action one set to another relatively, but there are not its effect on the torque characteristics. However, by combination with the external fixed or simpled 2nd excitating e.m.f., variable torque-speed drives can be effectively achieved.
