  • Recently, many researchers have found that the speaker recognition rate is high when they perform the speaker recognition using statistical processing method of orthogonal parameter, which are derived from the analysis of speech signal and contain much of the speaker's identity. This method, however, has problems caused by vocalization speed or time varying feature of speed. Thus, to solve these problems, this paper proposes two methods of speaker recognition which combine DTW algorithm with the method using orthogonal parameters extracted from $Karthumem-Lo\'{e}ve$ Transform method which applies orthogonal parameters as feature vector to ETW algorithm and the other is the method which applies orthogonal parameters to the optimal path. In addition, we compare speaker recognition rate obtained from the proposed two method with that from the conventional method of statistical process of orthogonal parameters. Orthogonal parameters used in this paper are derived from both linear prediction coefficients and partial correlation coefficients of speech signal.

  • Bandwidth Extension refers to restoring and expanding a narrow band signal(NB) that is damaged or damaged in the encoding and decoding process due to the lack of channel capacity or the characteristics of the codec installed in the mobile communication device. It means converting to a wideband signal(WB). Bandwidth extension research mainly focuses on voice signals and converts high bands into frequency domains, such as SBR (Spectral Band Replication) and IGF (Intelligent Gap Filling), and restores disappeared or damaged high bands based on complex feature extraction processes. In this paper, we propose a model that outputs an bandwidth extended signal based on an autoencoder among deep learning models, using the residual connection of one-dimensional convolutional neural networks (CNN), the bandwidth is extended by inputting a time domain signal of a certain length without complicated pre-processing. In addition, it was confirmed that the damaged high band can be restored even by training on a dataset containing various types of sound sources including music that is not limited to the speech.

  • In this paper, we study the efficient feature vector extraction method and front-end processing to improve the performance of the speech recognition system using KT(Korea Telecommunication) database collected through various telephone channels. First of all, we compare the recognition performances of the feature vectors known to be robust to noise and environmental variation and verify the performance enhancement of the recognition system using weighted cepstral distance measure methods. The experiment result shows that the recognition rate is increasedby using both PLP(Perceptual Linear Prediction) and MFCC(Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient) in comparison with LPC cepstrum used in KT recognition system. In cepstral distance measure, the weighted cepstral distance measure functions such as RPS(Root Power Sums) and BPL(Band-Pass Lifter) help the recognition enhancement. The application of the spectral subtraction method decrease the recognition rate because of the effect of distortion. However, RASTA(RelAtive SpecTrAl) processing, CMS(Cepstral Mean Subtraction) and SBR(Signal Bias Removal) enhance the recognition performance. Especially, the CMS method is simple but shows high recognition enhancement. Finally, the performances of the modified methods for the real-time implementation of CMS are compared and the improved method is suggested to prevent the performance degradation.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for on-line genre classification using spectrogram and deep neural network. For on-line processing, the proposed method inputs an audio signal for a time period of 1sec and classifies its genre among 3 genres of speech, music, and effect. In order to provide the generality of processing, it uses the spectrogram as a feature vector, instead of MFCC which has been widely used for audio analysis. We measure the performance of genre classification using real TV audio signals, and confirm that the proposed method has better performance than the conventional method for all genres. In particular, it decreases the rate of classification error between music and effect, which often occurs in the conventional method.

  • In this paper, a speaker-independent isolated world recognition system for a car navigation system is implemented using a general digital signal processor. This paper presents a method combining SNR normalization with RAS as a noise processing method. The semi-continuous hidden markov model is adopted and TMS320C31 is used in implementing the real-time system. Recognition word set is composed of 69 command words for a car navigation system. Experimental results showed that the recognition performance has a maximum of 93.62% in case of a combination of SNR normalization and spectral subtraction, and the performance improvement rate of the system is 3.69%, Presented noise processing method showed good speech recognition performance in 5dB SNR in car environment.

  • This paper studies noise subtraction methods and distance measures for speech recognition in a noisy environment, and investigates noise robustness of the distance measures applied to the problem of isolated word recognition in white Gaussian and colored noise (vehicle noise) environments. Noise subtraction methods which can be used as a pre-processor for the speech recognition system, such as the spectral subtraction method, autocorrelation subtraction method, adaptive noise cancellation and acoustic beamforming are studied, and distance measures such and Log Likelihood Ratio ($d_{LLR}$), cepstral distance measure ($d_{CEP}$), weighted cepstral distance measure ($d_{WCEP}$), spectral slope distance measure ($d_{RPS}$) and cepstral projection distance measure ($d_{CP},\;d_{BCP},\;d_{WCP},\;d_{BWCP}$) are also investigated. Testing of the distance measures for speaker-dependent isolated word recognition in a noisy environment indicate that $d_{RPS}\;and\;d_{WCEP}$ which weigh higher order cepstral coefficients more heavily give considerable performance improvement over $d_{CEP}and\;d_{LLR}$. In addition, when no pre-emphasis is performed, the recognizer can maintain higher performance under high noise conditions.

  • In languages such as Japanese, it is very common to observe that short peripheral vowel are completely voiceless when surrounded by voiceless consonants. This phenomenon has been known as Montreal French, Shanghai Chinese, Greek, and Korean. Traditionally this phenomenon has been described as a phonological rule that either categorically deletes the vowel or changes the [+voice] feature of the vowel to [-voice]. This analysis was supported by Sawashima (1971) and Hirose (1971)'s observation that there are two distinct EMG patterns for voiced and devoiced vowel in Japanese. Close examination of the phonetic evidence based on acoustic data, however, shows that these phonological characterizations are not tenable (Jun & Beckman 1993, 1994). In this paper, we examined the vowel devoicing phenomenon in Korean using data from ENG fiberscopic and acoustic recorders of 100 sentences produced by one Korean speaker. The results show that there is variability in the 'degree of devoicing' in both acoustic and EMG signals, and in the patterns of glottal closing and opening across different devoiced tokens. There seems to be no categorical difference between devoiced and voiced tokens, for either EMG activity events or glottal patterns. All of these observations support the notion that vowel devoicing in Korean can not be described as the result of the application of a phonological rule. Rather, devoicing seems to be a highly variable 'phonetic' process, a more or less subtle variation in the specification of such phonetic metrics as degree and timing of glottal opening, or of associated subglottal pressure or intra-oral airflow associated with concurrent tone and stricture specifications. Some of token-pair comparisons are amenable to an explanation in terms of gestural overlap and undershoot. However, the effect of gestural timing on vocal fold state seems to be a highly nonlinear function of the interaction among specifications for the relative timing of glottal adduction and abduction gestures, of the amplitudes of the overlapped gestures, of aerodynamic conditions created by concurrent oral tonal gestures, and so on. In summary, to understand devoicing, it will be necessary to examine its effect on phonetic representation of events in many parts of the vocal tracts, and at many stages of the speech chain between the motor intent and the acoustic signal that reaches the hearer's ear.

  • As recent information communication technology is rapidly developed, a lot of researches related to speech signal processing have been processed. So pitch period is applied as important factor to many application fields such as speech recognition, speaker identification, speech analysis and synthesis. Therefore, many algorithms related to pitch detection have been proposed in time domain and frequency domain and AMDF(average magnitude difference function) which is one of pitch detection algorithms in time domain chooses time interval from valley to valley as pitch period. But, in selection of valley point to detect pitch period, complexity of the algorithm is increased. So in this paper we proposed pitch detection algorithm using rotation transform of AMDF, that taking the global minimum valley point as pitch period and established a threshold about the phoneme in beginning portion, to exclude pitch period selection. and compared existing methods with proposed method through simulation.

  • The speech recognition is an active research area in the human computer interface (HCI). The objective of this study is to control digital devices with voices. In addition, the mouse is used as a computer peripheral tool which is widely used and provided in graphical user interface (GUI) computing environments. In this paper, we propose a method of controlling the mouse with the real-time speech recognition function of a smartphone. The processing steps include extracting the core voice signal after receiving a proper length voice input with real time, to perform the quantization by using the learned code book after feature extracting with mel frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC), and to finally recognize the corresponding vowel using hidden markov model (HMM). In addition a virtual mouse is operated by mapping each vowel to the mouse command. Finally, we show the various mouse operations on the desktop PC display with the implemented smartphone application.

  • The continuous time signal system by development of CMOS technology have been receiving consideration attention. In this paper, Low pass filter using CMOS floating resistor have been designed with cut off frequency for speech signal processing. Especially a new floating resistor consisting entirely of CMOS devices in saturation has been developed. Linearity within $\pm$0.04% is achieved through nonlineartiy via current mirrors over an applied range of $\pm$1V. The frequency response exceeds 10MHz, and the resistors are expected to be useful in implementing integrated circuit active RC filters. The low pass filter designed using this method has simpler structure than switched capacitor filter. So reduce the chip area. The characteristics of the designed low pass filter using this method are simulated by pspice program.
