  • In the speech system, for example hearing aid as well as speech communication, speech quality is degraded by environmental noise. In this study, to enhance the speech quality which is degraded by environmental speech, we proposed an algorithm to reduce the noise and reinforce the speech. The minima controlled recursive averaging (MCRA) algorithm is used to estimate the noise spectrum and spectral weighting factor is used to reduce the noise. And partial masking effect which is one of the human hearing properties is introduced to reinforce the speech. Then we compared the waveform, spectrogram, Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ) and segmental Signal to Noise Ratio (segSNR) between original speech, noisy speech, noise reduced speech and enhanced speech by proposed method. As a result, enhanced speech by proposed method is reinforced in high frequency which is degraded by noise, and PESQ, segSNR is enhanced. It means that the speech quality is enhanced.

  • An object color can be seen differently under the various outer illuminants. However, human visual system has color constancy that the object color can be seen constantly under the different outer illuminants. When the viewer watches TV under specific outer illuminants, he perceives distorted color due to the emitting spectrum of outer illuminants as well as the radiation of CPT itself. Namely, when the outer illuminants such as fluorescent and incandescent lamps incident on CPT, brightness, saturation, hue, and contrast on color pictures are changed, he perceives distorted color from the original color. In this paper color enhancement algorithm based on light intensity and outer light decision function using RGB sensor was proposed. The implemented TV of proposed algorithm has higher visual quality at the view point of human visual system and more vivid than that of conventional color TV.

  • In this paper, we propose a new noise estimation and reduction algorithm for stationary and nonstationary noisy environments. This approach uses an algorithm that classifies the speech and noise signal contributions in time-frequency bins. It relies on the ratio of the normalized standard deviation of the noisy power spectrum in time-frequency bins to its average. If the ratio is greater than an adaptive estimator, speech is considered to be present. The propose method uses an auto control parameter for an adaptive estimator to work well in highly nonstationary noisy environments. The auto control parameter is controlled by a linear function using a posteriori signal to noise ratio(SNR) according to the increase or the decrease of the noise level. The estimated clean speech power spectrum is obtained by a modified gain function and the updated noisy power spectrum of the time-frequency bin. This new algorithm has the advantages of much more simplicity and light computational load for estimating the stationary and nonstationary noise environments. The proposed algorithm is superior to conventional methods. To evaluate the algorithm's performance, we test it using the NOIZEUS database, and use the segment signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and ITU-T P.835 as evaluation criteria.

  • To the elderly, sudden falls are one of the most frightening accidents. If an accident occurs, a prompt action has to be taken to deal with the situation. Recently, there have been a number of attempts to detect sudden falls using acceleration sensors embedded in the mobile devices, such as smart phones and wrist-bands. However, using the sensor readings only, the detection rate of the falls is around 65%. Ordinary daily activities such as running or jumping could not be well distinguished from the falls. In this paper, we describe our attempts on improving the fall-detection rate. We implemented a wrist-band fall detection module, using a three-axis acceleration sensor. With the pattern matching on the fall signal-strength frequency spectrum, in addition to the conventional signal strength measurement, we could improve the detection rate by 9% point. Furthermore, by applying two wrist-bands in the experiment, we could further improve the detection rate to 82%.

  • The spectrum of impulse response signal from an impulse hammer testing is widely used to obtain frequency response function(FRF) of the structure. However the FRFs obtained from impact hammer testing have not only leakage errors but also finite record length errors when the record length for the signal processing is not sufficiently long. The errors cannot be removed with the conventional signal analyzer which treats the signals as if they are always steady and periodic. Since the response signals generated by the impact hammer are transient and have damping, they are undoubtedly non-periodic. It is inevitable that the signals be acquired for limited recording time, which causes the finite record length error and the leakage error. In this paper, the errors in the frequency response function of multi degree of freedom system are formulated theoretically. And the method to remove these errors is also suggested. This method is based on the optimization technique. A numerical example of 3-dof model shows the validity of the proposed method.

  • Security and resource-saving are both demands of the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. In this paper, we study the secrecy spectrum efficiency (SSE) and secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) of a K-tier massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) enabled heterogeneous cellular network (HetNet), in which artificial noise (AN) are employed for secrecy enhancement. Assuming (i) independent Poisson point process model for the locations of base stations (BSs) of each tier as well as that of eavesdroppers, (ii) zero-forcing precoding at the macrocell BSs (MBSs), and (iii) maximum average received power-based cell selection, the tractable lower bound expressions for SSE and SEE of massive MIMO enabled HetNets are derived. Then, the influences on secrecy oriented spectrum and energy efficiency performance caused by the power allocation for AN, transmit antenna number, number of users served by each MBS, and eavesdropper density are analyzed respectively. Moreover, the analysis accuracy is verified by Monte Carlo simulations.

  • In this paper, a new pre-processing method for the recognition of single vowels by use of spectrum envelope is presented. We use new extraction method of a spectrum envelope using the diffusion filter bank. By dividing analysis band of a diffusion filter bank into subbands, we decreased the number of diffusion process. And, by increasing the number of difference, we got higher selectivity. As a result of them, we reduced the total processing time, and got higher enhancement of discrimination. By getting 88.3% of average recognition rate for single vowels of natural voice through computer simulation. We confirmed it to be useful for speech recognition which use spectrum analysis of the voice signal to have many frequency components.

  • In speech recognition under a noisy environment, it is necessary to construct a system which reduces the noise and enhances the speech. Then it is effective to imitate the human auditory system which has an excellent analytical spectrum mechanism for speech enhancement. Accordingly, this paper proposes an adaptive method using the auditory mechanism which is called lateral inhibition. This method first estimates the noise intensity by neural network, then adaptively adjusts both the coefficients of the lateral inhibition and the adjusting coefficient of amplitude component according to the noise intensity for each input frame. It is confirmed that the proposed method is effective for speech degraded by white noise, colored noise, and road noise based on the spectral distortion measurement.

  • In this paper, we propose the speech enhancement algorithm using an one-microphone in a reverberant room environments. Spectral subtraction is the effective method which can reduce the reverberation element and the noise in a spectrum domain. Spectral subtraction needs correct separation of voice section and silent section therefore to improve the performance, voice activity detection(VAD) based on entropy has been applied to the proposed method. We test a performance of the proposed method by comparing with conventional method which used VAD based on energy detection. Reverberation reduction ratio with variable of SNR and a reverberation time is used as a test index. From the simulation result, proposed method shows performance better than conventional method.

  • The typical inerter system, the tuned viscous mass damper (TVMD), has been proven to be efficient. It is characterized by an energy-dissipation-enhancement effect, whereby the dashpot deformation of TVMD can be amplified for enhanced energy dissipation efficiency. However, existing studies related to TVMD have mainly been performed on elastic structures, so the working mechanism remains unclear for nonlinear structures. To deal with this, an energy-spectrum analysis framework is developed systematically for classic bilinear hysteretic structures with TVMD. Considering the soil effect, typical bedrock records are propagated through the soil deposit, for which the designed input energy spectra are proposed by considering the TVMD parameters and structural nonlinear properties. Furthermore, the energy-dissipation-enhancement effect of TVMD is quantitatively evaluated for bilinear hysteretic structures. The results show that the established designed input energy spectra can be employed to evaluate the total energy-dissipation burden for a nonlinear TVMD structure. Particularly, the stiffness of TVMD is the dominant factor in adjusting the total input energy. Compared with the case of elastic structures, the energy-dissipation-enhancement effect of TVMD for nonlinear structures is weakened so that the expected energy-dissipation effect of TVMD is replaced by the accumulated energy dissipation of the primary structure.
