  • The objective of this study is to propose the measurement system implementation method for the evaluation and measurement of the indoor-impulsive over 170 dB noise source. For the purpose of measuring impulse noise, design and implementation constructed followed subsystems of the testing center, microphone, ear simulator, head and torso simulator and so on. Measurement systems for the accuracy and reliability of impulse noise are implemented when measuring 3 ways of measurements method by the simultaneous measurement system design. For the accuracy and reliability of three mutually indoor-impulse noise measurements were compared, three kinds of measuring methods in accordance with the peak sound pressure level and octave band. Comparing the results of data, the indoor-impulse noise by analyzing a frequency characteristic was validated in difference for the statistical significance. Result are determined by the influence of the reflected wave. Therefore, the flexible size of the interior test site while interior impulse noise measurement system was constructed. Throughout this system can be affected by parameters that are the impulse noise source and the corresponding frequency-characteristic analysis to determine the spectrum of the reflected wave. And, in the near future, indoor impulse noise measurement systems for acquisition and analysis are utilized in useful data.

  • This paper proposes a method for modeling new fault ground motion due to moderate size earthquakes in Stable Continental Regions (SCRs) for the first time. The near fault ground motion is characterized by a single long period velocity pulse of large amplitude. In order to model the velocity pulse, its period and peak amplitude need be determined in terms of earthquake magnitude and distance from the causative fault. Because there have been observed very few new fault ground motions, it is difficult to derive the model directly from the recorded data in SCRs. Instead an indirect approach is adopted in this work. The two parameters, the period and peak amplitude of the velocity pulse, are known to be functions of the rise time and the slip velocity. For Western United States (WUS) that belongs active tectonic regions, there art empirical formulas for these functions. The relations of rise time and slip velocity on the magnitude in SCRs are derived by comparing related data between Western United States and Central-Eastern United States that belongs to SCRs. From these relations, the functions of these pulse parameters for NFGM in SCRs can be expressed in terms of earthquake magnitude and distance. A time history of near fault ground motion of moderate magnitude earthquake in stable continental regions is synthesized by superposing the velocity pulse on the for field ground motion that is generated by stochastic method. As an demonstrative application, the response of a single degree of freedom elasto-plastic system is studied.

  • In this paper, a parallel backoff delay procedure on multiple IEEE 802.15.4 channels and a channel searching method considering the frequency spectrum of WiFi traffic are studied for IEEE 802.15.4 nodes to avoid the interference from WiFi traffic. In order to search the channels being occupied by WiFi traffic, we analyzed the methods measuring the powers of adjacent channels simultaneously, checking the duration of measured power levels greater than a threshold, and finding the same periodicity of sampled RSSI data as the beacon frame by signal processing. In an wireless channel overlapped with IEEE 802.11 network, the operation of CSMA-CA algorithm for IEEE 802.15.4 nodes is explained. A method to execute a parallel backoff procedure on multiples IEEE 802.15.4 channels by an IEEE 802.15.4 device is proposed with the description of its algorithm. When we analyze the data measured by the experimental system implemented with the proposed method, it is observed that medium access delay times increase at the same time in the associated IEEE 802.15.4 channels that are adjacent each other during the generation of WiFi traffic. A channel evaluation function to decide the interference from other traffic on an IEEE 802.15.4 channel is defined. A channel searching method considering the channel evaluations on the adjacent channels together is proposed in order to search the IEEE 802.15.4 channels interfered by WiFi, and the experimental results show that it correctly finds the channels interfered by WiFi traffic.

  • As distributed control systems (DCS) and plant information systems (PIS) are introduced into gas industries, process monitoring systems based on process data have attracted significant interests. However, these technologies have not been fully due to strong nonlinearities of batch processes. The multiway principal component analysis, which has been recently developed, has solved these problems and has been widely used in the industries. However, the lack of statistical background of process operators has been one of major obstacles for maximum utilization of the technology This paper introduces a real time monitoring system for batch gas manufacturing processes that offers a variety of tools that operators can understand and use without serious difficulties. The proposed integrated system covers the whole spectrum of monitoring and diagnosis that include data collection, monitoring and diagnosis. The developed system has been verified to be very effective for monitoring and diagnosis using its application to the construction of monitoring system for a typical industrial batch reactor.

  • Baseline correction is very important due to influence on performance of spectral analysis in application of spectroscopy. Baseline is often estimated by parameter selection using visual inspection on analyte spectrum. It is a highly subjective procedure and can be tedious work especially with a large number of data. For these reasons, it is an objective and automatic procedure is necessary to select optimal parameter value for baseline correction. Asymmetrically reweighted penalized least squares (arPLS) based on penalized least squares was proposed for baseline correction in our previous study. The method uses a new weighting scheme based on the generalized logistic function. In this study, we present an automatic selection of optimal parameter for baseline correction using arPLS. The method computes fitness and smoothness values of fitted baseline within available range of parameters and then selects optimal parameter when the sum of normalized fitness and smoothness gets minimum. According to the experimental results using simulated data with varying baselines, sloping, curved and doubly curved baseline, and real Raman spectra, we confirmed that the proposed method can be effectively applied to optimal parameter selection for baseline correction using arPLS.

  • Inversion of multi-mode surface-wave phase velocity for shallow engineering site investigation has received much attention in recent years. A sensitivity analysis and inversion of both synthetic and field data demonstrates the greater effectiveness of this method over employing the fundamental mode alone. Perturbation of thickness and shear-wave velocity parameters in multi-modal Rayleigh wave phase velocities revealed that the sensitivities of higher modes: (a) concentrate in different frequency bands, and (b) are greater than the fundamental mode for deeper parameters. These observations suggest that multi-mode phase velocity inversion can provide better parameter discrimination and imaging of deep structure, especially with a velocity reversal, than can inversion of fundamental mode data alone. An inversion of the theoretical phase velocities in a model with a low velocity layer at 20 m depth can only image the soft layer when the first higher mode is incorporated. This is especially important when the lowest measurable frequency is only 6 Hz. Field tests were conducted at sites surveyed by borehole and PS logging. At the first site, an array microtremor survey, often used for deep geological surveying in Japan, was used to survey the soil down to 35 m depth. At the second site, linear multichannel spreads with a sledgehammer source were recorded, for an investigation down to 12 m depth. The f-k power spectrum method was applied for dispersion analysis, and velocities up to the second higher mode were observed in each test. The multi-mode inversion results agree well with PS logs, but models estimated from the fundamental mode alone show f large underestimation of the depth to shallow soft layers below artificial fill.

  • The use of drone-based hyperspectral image offers considerable advantages in high resolution remote sensing applications. The primary objective of this study was to select the optimal bands based on hyperspectral image for the estimation yield of the chinese cabbage. The hyperspectral narrow bands were acquired over 403.36 to 995.19 nm using a 3.97 nm wide, 150 bands, drone-based hyperspectral imaging sensor. Fresh weight data were obtained from 2,031 sample for each field survey. Normalized difference vegetation indices were computed using red, red-edge and near-infrared bands and their relationship with quantitative each fresh weights were established and compared. As a result, predominant proportion of fresh weights are best estimated using data from three narrow bands, in order of importance, centered around 697.29 nm (red band), 717.15 nm (red-edge band) and 808.51 nm (near-infrared band). The study determined three spectral bands that provide optimal chinese cabbage productivity in the visible and near-infrared portion of the spectrum.

  • Comparisons between two different surface temperatures from high-resolution ECMWF ReAnalysis 5 (ERA5) and Automated Synoptic Observing System (ASOS) observations were performed to investigate the reliability of the new reanalysis data over South Korea. As ERA5 has been recently produced and provided to the public, it will be highly used in various research fields. The analysis period in this study is limited to 1999-2018 because regularly recorded hourly data have been provided for 61 ASOS stations since 1999. Topographic characteristics of the 61 ASOS locations are classified as inland, coastal, and mountain based on Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data. The spatial distributions of whole period time-averaged temperatures for ASOS and ERA5 were similar without significant differences in their values. Scatter plots between ASOS and ERA5 for three different periods of yearlong, summer, and winter confirmed the characteristics of seasonal variability, also shown in the time-series of monthly error probability density functions (PDFs). Statistical indices NMB, RMSE, R, and IOA were adopted to quantify the temperature differences, which showed no significant differences in all indices, as R and IOA were all close to 0.99. In particular, the daily mean temperature differences based on 1-hour-averaged temperature had a smaller error than the classical daily mean temperature differences, showing a higher correlation between the two data. To check if the complex topography inside one ERA5 grid cell is related to the temperature differences, the kurtosis and skewness values of 90-m DEM PDFs in a ERA5 grid cell were compared to the one-year period amplitude among those of the power spectrum in the time-series of monthly temperature error PDFs at each station, showing positive correlations. The results account for the topographic effect as one of the largest possible drivers of the difference between ASOS and ERA5.

  • 1, 2-Hexanediol galactoside (HD-gal) has been synthesized from 1, 2-hexanediol (HD), a cosmetic preservative, using recombinant Escherichia coli ${\beta}$-galactosidase (${\beta}$-gal) at the high lactose concentration (300 g/l). To confirm the molecular structure of synthesized HD-gal, NMR ($^1H$- and $^{13}C$-) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry of HD-gal were conducted. $^1H$ NMR spectrum of HD-gal showed multiple peaks corresponding to the galactocyl group, which is an evidence of galactocylation on HD. Downfield proton peaks at ${\delta}_H$ 4.44 ppm and multiple peaks from ${\delta}_H$3.96~3.58 ppm were indicative of galactocylation on HD. Up field proton peaks at ${\delta}_H$ 1.60~1.35 ppm and 0.92 ppm showed the presence of $CH_2$ and $CH_3$ protons of HD. $^{13}C$ NMR spectrum revealed the presence of 21 carbons suggestive of ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-anomers of HD-gal. Among 12 carbon peaks from each anomers, the 3 peaks at dC 68.6, 60.9 and 13.2 ppm were assigned to be overlapped showing only 21 peaks out of total 24 peaks. The mass value (protonated HD-gal, m/z = 281.1601) from mass spectrometry analysis of HD-gal, and $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR spectral data were in well agreement with the expecting structure of HD-gal. For further study, the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of HD-gal against bacteria will be investigated, and, in addition, cytotoxicity to human skin cells of HD-gal will be examined. It is expected that it will eventually be able to develop a new cosmetic preservative, which have low cytotoxicity against human skin cell and maintains antimicrobial effect.
