  • We deposited thin films of ZnS(Zinc Sulphide), in which was used antireflection coating material of glasses-lens on silicon and slide-glass substrates using spin coating method, and measured spectra of ellipsometry angles ${\Delta}$ and ${\Psi}$ in the photon-energy range of 1.5~5.0 eV using a variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometer. The optical constants, refractive index and extinction coefficient, of ZnS were determined via the dispersion parameters extracted from the curve-fitting process based on Jellison-Modine dispersion function.

  • Using FT-IR, we determined the depth of silylated layers produced from various gas-phase-silylation conditions was proposed by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis. The depth of silylated layer was determined from absorbance measurments of the significant peaks (Si-O-ph, Si-C, Si-H) of FT-IR spectra with background spectrum subtraction method. And the results were compared with thickness measurments of SEM. The results were well agree with SEM. It found to be well suited for determining silylation process window.

  • Various organic- and bio-conjugated nanoparticles have been studied extensively for biological applications in medical diagnoses and drug delivery systems. Gold nanoparticles (AuNP) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) are known biocompatible materials to be used in vivo and are becoming increasingly important in biomedical applications. In this work, we investigated the stability of PEG-conjugated AuNPs, dialysis and centrifuge effects after synthesis or pegylation of AuNPs as a function of elapsed time by using ToF-SIMS imaging technique along with dynamic light scattering (DLS), UV-visible absorption spectroscopic and statistical analyses. Roughly 15-nm-sized AuNPs were synthesized in a citrate-conjugated form, and then converted into the thiol-terminated PEG (O-[2-(3-Mercaptopropionylamino)ethyl]-O'-methylpolyethyleneglycol, M.W.=5 kDa) form. Based on our data, we will show that ToF-SIMS imaging analysis along with DLS, UV-visible absorption and statistical analyses would be a useful method to evaluate stability of PEG-conjugated AuNPs in various environmental conditions.

  • Two new unusual soyasaponins named 6"-O-methyldehydrosoyasaponin I(7) and desglucosylsoyasaponin $A_1$ (10) along with eight known saponins, dehydrosoyasaponin IV (1), dehydrosoyasaponin III (= impatienoside A) (2), soyasaponin III (3), dehydrosoyasaponin II (= soyasaponin Bg) (4), soyasaponin II (5), dehydrosoyasaponin I (= soyasaponin Be) (6), soyasaponin I (8), and kudzusaponin $SA_3$ (9), were isolated as their methyl esters and identified from the liquid culture of G. applanatum. Their structures were determined by chemical and spectroscopic analyses including 1D- and 2D-NMR as well as by comparison of their spectroscopic data with those of the reported in literatures. Although dehydrosoyasaponin IV was identified by LC-MS/MS method from soy protein isolate, this is the first report of the isolation of this compound. Dehydrosoyasaponin III (2) and kudzusaponin $SA_3$ (9) were also isolated for the first time from soybean. The presence of soyasaponins in Ganoderma species seems to be unusual feature. Thus, we presumed that compounds 1-10 might all be derived from the defatted soybean flour which was added to the culture medium as a nitrogen source.

  • We provide results of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopic observations of 83 nearby (0.002< z <0.48) and bright (K <14 mag) type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs). For the observations, we used the Infrared Camera (IRC) on AKARI allowing us to obtain the spectrum in the rarely studied spectral range of $2.5-5.0{\mu}m$. The $2.5-5.0{\mu}m$ spectral region suffers less dust extinction than ultra violet (UV) or optical wavelength ranges, and contains several important emission lines such as $Br{\beta}$ ($2.63{\mu}m$), $Br{\alpha}$ ($4.05{\mu}m$), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH; $3.3{\mu}m$). The sample is selected from the bright quasar surveys of Palomar Green and SNUQSO, and AGNs with black hole (BH) masses estimated from reverberation mapping method. We measure the Brackett line properties for 11 AGNs, which enable us to derive BH mass estimators and investigate circum-nuclear environments. Moreover, we perform spectral modeling to fit the hot and warm dust components by adding photometric data from SDSS, 2MASS, WISE, and ISO to the AKARI spectra, and estimate hot and warm dust temperatures of ~1100K and ~220 K, respectively.

  • Phosphorus is one of the interesting impurities in diamond, because it produces n-type semiconducting character. The character has been studied with spectroscopic methods as well as electric method, but most of the diamond used for these studies are conducted by the CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) diamond. In this study, we synthesized the phosphorus doped HPHT (High Pressure and High Temperature) diamond and investigated the characterization using CL spectroscopy to determine how phosphorus incorporated. As a result, the undocumented peaks of 248 and 603 nm as well as the reported peaks (239 nm, 240 ~ 270 nm) at the previous studies were observed. These luminescence peaks may be due to the complex defect of phosphorus with other impurities such as boron and nitrogen.

  • Na, TPA-ZSM-5 with Si / Al mole ratio of about 130 was synthesized at low temperature and atmospheric pressure. These intermediate products were characterized by using XRD, XRF, FT-IR, NMR, and SEM. As a result, intermediate product were different from those that synthesized by autoclave method but spectroscopic characteristics of the final products showed to be in the typical ZSM-5 region. The defect sites were observed in the final product and removed by calcination at $540^{\circ}C$. Na, TPA-ZSM-5, aboveall, was synthesized at this condition within 48hr.

  • Three modes of VIS/NIR spectroscopic measurement (interactance and two modes of transmission) were compared for their ability to estimate soluble solids content (SSC) of 'Shingo' pear non-destructively. The two transmission modes are named as full- and semi-transmission, where full-transmission stands for passing of light through abdomen of pear and semi-transmission is for transit of light mainly through flesh of pear. For comparison of the modes, prediction models developed from the collected spectroscopic data by the three modes were developed and tested for comparison of their performance. Partial least square regression (PSLR) was used to develop the models and various pre-processing methods were applied to develop models of high accuracy. The experiment was repeated three times with pears produced in different regions. The experiments resulted that selection of pre-processing is very important to attain accurate models, and multiplicative scatter correction (MSC) was selected as a pre-processor of high accuracy for the three modes of spectroscopic measurement in every experiment. Except for MSC, different group of pre-processing methods were selected for the three modes of measurement in every experiment without any tendency to the tested modes of measurement and pears of different produced region. Root-mean-square error of prediction (RMSEP) of prediction models of the three modes of measurement using prepreocessor of MSC were compared for their ability to estimate SSC. The models resulted in ranges of $0.37{\sim}0.57^{\circ}Brix$, $0.65{\sim}0.72^{\circ}Brix$, $0.39{\sim}0.51^{\circ}Brix$ for interactance, full- and semi-transmission, respectively. As shown, modes of semi-transmission and interactance resulted about the same level of prediction accuracy and were noted as modes of high performance to predict SSC.

  • The mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of diverse carbonate rocks can be investigated by using VNIRSWIR(visible near infrared-short wavelength infrared) spectroscopic analysis as a rapid, nondestructive, and inexpensive tool. Comparing whole rock analysis to VNIR-SWIR spectroscopic analysis, the analytical method was investigated to estimate CaO contents, mud impurity, and whiteness of carbonate rocks involved in high-grade limestones in the field. We classify typical carbonate rocks in the upper Pungchon Formation in high-grade limestone mine area such as the Gangweon, Chungmu and Baegun mine in the Jeongseon area. The results show that powdered specimen has much higher reflectance than cutted specimen between the same sample. Whiteness is highly correlated with reflectance(0.99) for powdered specimen. The absorption of mineral mixtures shifts in position as a result of the mass ratio of calcite and dolomite in the Chungmu mine by changing to 75:25, 50:50, and 25:75. The absorption peak position in carbonate mixtures is highly correlated with CaO contents(0.98~0.99). Based on color system, the carbonate rocks are grouped into (milky) white, light grey, light brown, grey, and dark grey. The absorption peak position shifts from 2340 nm to 2320 nm as CaO contents decrease from 55.86 wt.% to 29.71 wt.%. We confirmed that absorption peak position shifts depending on the amount of Ca, which is bonded to $CO{_3}^{-2}$, Mg, and Fe contents replacing Ca. This result suggests that CaO contents in carbonate rocks can be considered to quantitative analysis in the field by spectroscopic analysis.
