Phase inversion of seismic data

  • Waveform inversion requires extracting a reliable low frequency content of seismic data for estimating of the low wave number velocity model. The low frequency content of the seismic data is usually discarded or neglected because of the band-limited response of the source and the receivers. In this study, however small the spectral of the low frequency seismic data is, we assume that it is possible to extract a reliable phase information of the low frequency from the seismic data and use it in waveform inversion. To this end, we exploit the frequency domain finite element modeling and source-receiver reciprocity to calculate the $Frech\`{e}t$ derivative of the phase of the seismic data with respect to the earth model parameter such as velocity, and then apply a damped least squares method to invert the phase of the seismic data. Through numerical example, we will attempt to demonstrate the feasibility of our method in estimating the correct velocity model for prestack depth migration.

Generalization and implementation of hardening soil constitutive model in ABAQUS code

  • The original elastoplastic Hardening Soil model is formulated actually partly under hexagonal pyramidal Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, and can be only used in specific stress paths. It must be completely generalized under Mohr-Coulomb criterion before its usage in engineering practice. A set of generalized constitutive equations under this criterion, including shear and volumetric yield surfaces and hardening laws, is proposed for Hardening Soil model in principal stress space. On the other hand, a Mohr-Coulumb type yield surface in principal stress space comprises six corners and an apex that make singularity for the normal integration approach of constitutive equations. With respect to the isotropic nature of the material, a technique for processing these singularities by means of Koiter's rule, along with a transforming approach between both stress spaces for both stress tensor and consistent stiffness matrix based on spectral decomposition method, is introduced to provide such an approach for developing generalized Hardening Soil model in finite element analysis code ABAQUS. The implemented model is verified in comparison with the results after the original simulations of oedometer and triaxial tests by means of this model, for volumetric and shear hardenings respectively. Results from the simulation of oedometer test show similar shape of primary loading curve to the original one, while maximum vertical strain is a little overestimated for about 0.5% probably due to the selection of relationships for cap parameters. In simulation of triaxial test, the stress-strain and dilation curves are both in very good agreement with the original curves as well as test data.

  • Installation of sensors networks for continuous in-service monitoring of structures and their efficiency conditions is a current research trend of paramount interest. On-line monitoring systems could be strategically useful for road infrastructures, which are expected to perform efficiently and be self-diagnostic, also in emergency scenarios. This work researches damage detection in composite concrete-steel structures that are typical for highway overpasses and bridges. The techniques herein proposed assume that typical damage in the deck occurs in form of delamination and cracking, and that it affects the peak power spectral density of dynamic curvature. The investigation is performed by combining results of measurements collected by long-gauge fiber optic strain sensors installed on monitored structure and a statistic approach. A finite element model has been also prepared and validated for deepening peculiar aspects of the investigation and the availability of the method. The proposed method for real time applications is able to detect a documented unusual behavior (e.g., damage or deterioration) through long-gauge fiber optic strain sensors measurements and a probabilistic study of the dynamic curvature power spectral density.

A study on seismic behaviour of masonry mosques after restoration

  • Historical masonry structures have an important value for cultures and it is essential for every society to strengthen them and confidently transfer to the future. For this reason, determination of the seismic earthquake response, which is the most affecting factor to cause the damage at these structures, gain more importance. In this paper, the seismic earthquake behaviour of Kaya Çelebi Mosque, which is located in Turkey and the restoration process has still continued after 2011 Van earthquake, is determined. Firstly the dynamic modal analysis and subsequently the seismic spectral analysis are performed using the finite element model of the mosque constructed with restoration drawings in SAP2000 program. Maximum displacements, tensile, compressive and shear stresses are obtained and presented with contours diagrams. Turkish Earthquake Code and its general technical specifications are considered to evaluate the structural responses. After the analyses, it is seen that the displacements and compressive/shear stresses within the code limits. However, tension stresses exceeded the maximum values at some local regions. For this mosque, this is in tolerance limits considering the whole structure. But, it can be said that the tension stresses is very important for this type of the structures, especially between the stone and mortar. So, some additional strengthening solutions considering the originality of historical structures may be applicable on maximum tensile regions.

KL-510 하중에 의한 강판형교의 동적응답 (Dynamic Response of Steel Plate Girder Bridges by the KL-510 Load)

  • 본 연구에서는 교량의 노면조도 및 교량과 차량 사이의 상호작용을 고려한 수치해석방법을 사용하여 도로교설계기준에 규정된 표준트럭 하중인 KL-510에 의한 강판형교의 동적응답을 연구하였다. 대상교량은 건설부에서 제정한 "도로교 상부구조 표준도"에 수록되어 있는 지간이 20m, 30m와 40m인 단순 강판형교를 사용하고. "보통의 도로"에 대하여 생성시킨 10개의 노면조도를 사용하였다. 차량은 5축 트랙터-트레일러인 표준트럭하중 KL-510을 3차원 차량으로 모델링하고, 교량은 주형을 보요소로, 콘크리트 바닥판은 쉘요소로, 주형과 콘크리트 바닥판 사이는 Rigid Link를 사용하여 3차원으로 모델링하였다. 이와 같은 노면조도 및 차량을 사용하여 강판형교의 충격계수와 DLA를 구하고 각국의 설계기준과 비교 검토하였다.

추계학적 그린함수법으로 합성된 지반운동에 대한 단층 파라미터의 영향 (Effects of Fault Parameters on the Ground Motion Synthesized by the Stochastic Green Function Method)

  • 이 연구에서는 추계학적 그린함수법에 의한 단층 모델을 이용하여 지진파를 합성하고 단층 파라미터의 변화에 의한 지반 운동의 차이를 평가하였다. 모멘트 규모 6.5의 단층을 예제로 선정하였고 아스페리티 면적의 통계값을 이용하여 슬립의 분포를 모델링하였다. 평가를 위해 고려된 단층 파라미터들은 진원의 위치, 전단파 속도 대비 파열 전파속도 비, 상승시간, 절점주파수 그리고 고주파감쇠 필터 등 이었다. 요소지진원에 적용된 파라미터들은 구조권역별 특성이 다른 지역의 값을 사용하였고 다른 파라미터들은 발생 가능한 임의의 값을 사용하였다. 생성된 지반운동 시간이력으로부터 응답스펙트럼을 작성하였으며, 파라미터의 값을 달리하여 비교하였다. 이로부터 각각의 단층파라미터에 의해 영향을 받는 주파수 구간 및 스펙트럼 가속도의 차이를 평가하였다.

콘크리트 재료손상에 대한 유한요소상의 의미 (Numerical Implication of Concrete Material Damage at the Finite Element Levels)

  • 재료구성관계의 범위에서의 강성 성능저하의 스펙트럼 특성을 기본 유한요소법을 이용하여 개별 유한요소와 그의 조합행렬에 대한 스펙트럼 분석을 상호 비교하여 수치적인 의미를 확인하고자 한다. 본 논문의 주 관심부분은 탄성 강성특성의 저하로 인한 콘크리트 재료의 손상정도를 다양한 스펙트럼 특성인 최소고유치의 변화, 유효계수의 변화 등의 시나리오를 가지고 해의 유일성 여부, 특이성의 표현 여부 그리고 변분유계와의 근접여부 등을 관찰하였다. 1차원 및 2차원 예제가 제시되었으며 강성이 서로 다른 혼입재를 가진 2상복합체의 형식으로 콘크리트의 골재, 매트릭스를 표현하고 상호연관성 및 기하학적 영향을 고려하였다. 더불어 2차원 탄성계면요소를 이용하여 골재와 매트릭스 사이에 존재하는 약한 고리인 계면을 묘사하고 이들 계면의 탄성계수의 성능저하로 인한 전체 구조계의 영향 등을 분석, 비교하였다.

  • 발사체의 구조해석적인 측면에서 외부하중에 따른 발사체의 반응을 파악하는 것은 중요한 일이다. 기본적으로 발사체는 응력집중이나 내부 모듈간의 변위 간섭 등이 일어나지 않게 설계되어야한다. 이를 위해서는 외부하중에 관한 연구가 선행되어야 한다. 발사체에 작용하는 외부하중 중 연소 및 배기에 의해 발생하는 음향하중은 통계적 방법으로 다루어야 하는 랜덤 하중이다. 본 연구에서는 발사시 작용하는 음향하중에 대하여 하중 함수를 구성하고, 이를 이용하여 발사체의 하중해석을 수행하였다. 음원 할당 방법으로 음향하중을 추정하여 하중함수를 구성하였고, 이를 발사체의 유한요소 모델에 적용하였다. 응력해석을 이용하여 발사체의 구조 강성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 발사체 각 섹션의 경계면에서의 가속도 파워 스펙트럴 밀도함수를 구할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 이용하여 각 섹션의 진동 시험에 필요한 스펙을 도출할 수 있다.

Field monitoring of wind effects on a super-tall building during typhoons

  • This paper presents the field measurement results of wind effects on a super-tall building (CITIC Plaza, 391 m high) located in Guangzhou. The field data such as wind speed, wind direction and acceleration responses were simultaneously and continuously recorded from the tall building by a wind and vibration monitoring system during two typhoons. The typhoon-generated wind characteristics including turbulence intensity, gust factor, peak factor, turbulence integral length scale and power spectral density of fluctuating wind speed were presented and discussed. The dynamic characteristics of the tall building were determined based on the field measurements and compared with those calculated from a 3D finite element model of the building. The measured natural frequencies of the two fundamental sway modes of the building were found to be larger than those calculated. The damping ratios of the building were evaluated by the random decrement technique, which demonstrated amplitude-dependent characteristics. The field measured acceleration responses were compared with wind tunnel test results, which were found to be consistent with the model test data. Finally, the serviceability performance of the super-tall building was assessed based on the field measurement results.

통계해석법에 의한 폰툰식 VLFS의 피로강도해석 (Fatigue Strength Analysis of Pontoon Type VLFS Using Spectral Method)

  • The fatigue strength analysis of VLFS is carried out by using a 3-dimensional plate finite element model with a zooming technology which performs the modeling of wide portions of the structure by a coarse mesh but the concerned parts by a very fine mesh of t by t level. And a stepwise substructure modeling technique for global loading conditions is applied which uses the motion response of the global structure from 2-D plate hydroelastic analysis as the enforcing nodal displacements of the concern 3-D structural zooming model. Seven incident wave angles and whole ranges of frequency domains of wave spectrum are considered. In order to consider the effect of breakwater, the modified JONSWAP wave spectrum is used. Applying the wave data of installation region, the longterm spectrum analysis is done based on stochastic process and the fatigue life of the structure is estimated. Finally some design considerations from the view point of fatigue strength analysis of VLFS are discussed.
