In this paper a simple approach is presented for spectral matching of ground motions utilizing the wavelet transform and a recently developed metaheuristic optimization technique. For this purpose, wavelet transform is used to decompose the original ground motions to several levels, where each level covers a special range of frequency, and then each level is multiplied by a variable. Subsequently, the vibrating particles system (VPS) algorithm is employed to calculate the variables such that the error between the response and target spectra is minimized. The application of the proposed method is illustrated through modifying 12 sets of ground motions. The results achieved by this method demonstrate its capability in solving the problem. The outcomes of the VPS algorithm are compared to those of the standard colliding bodies optimization (CBO) to illustrate the importance of the enhancement of the algorithm.
We describe a comb-mode resolving spectroscopic technique by direct time-domain phase correction of unstable interferograms obtained from loosely locked two femtosecond lasers. A low-cost continuous wave laser and conventional repetition rate stabilization method were exploited for locking carrier and envelope phase of interferograms, respectively. We intentionally set the servo control at low bandwidth, resulting in severe interferograms' fluctuation to demonstrate the capability of the proposed correction method. The envelope phase of each interferogram was estimated by a quadratic fit of carrier peaks to correct timing fluctuation of interferograms in the time domain. After envelope phase correction on individual interferograms, we successfully demonstrated 1 Hz linewidth of RF comb-mode over 200 GHz optical spectral-bandwidth with 10-times signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) enhancement compared to the spectrum without correction. Besides, the group delay difference between two femtosecond pulses is successfully estimated through a linear slope of phase information.
The presence of noise in speech signals degrades the performance of recognition systems in which there are mismatches between the training and test environments. To make a speech recognizer robust, it is necessary to compensate these mismatches. In this paper, we studied about an improvement of stochastic feature extraction based on band-SNR for robust speech recognition. At first, we proposed a modified version of the multi-band spectral subtraction (MSS) method which adjusts the subtraction level of noise spectrum according to band-SNR. In the proposed method referred as M-MSS, a noise normalization factor was newly introduced to finely control the over-estimation factor depending on the band-SNR. Also, we modified the architecture of the stochastic feature extraction (SFE) method. We could get a better performance when the spectral subtraction was applied in the power spectrum domain than in the mel-scale domain. This method is denoted as M-SFE. Last, we applied the M-MSS method to the modified stochastic feature extraction structure, which is denoted as the MMSS-MSFE method. The proposed methods were evaluated on isolated word recognition under various noise environments. The average error rates of the M-MSS, M-SFE, and MMSS-MSFE methods over the ordinary spectral subtraction (SS) method were reduced by 18.6%, 15.1%, and 33.9%, respectively. From these results, we can conclude that the proposed methods provide good candidates for robust feature extraction in the noisy speech recognition.
This paper compares the recognition performances of feature vectors known to be robust to the environmental noise. And, the speech subtraction technique is combined with the noise robust feature to get more performance enhancement. The experiments using SMC(Short time Modified Coherence) analysis, root cepstral analysis, LDA(Linear Discriminant Analysis), PLP(Perceptual Linear Prediction), RASTA(RelAtive SpecTrAl) processing are carried out. An isolated word recognition system is composed using semi-continuous HMM. Noisy environment experiments usign two types of noises:exhibition hall, computer room are carried out at 0, 10, 20dB SNRs. The experimental result shows that SMC and root based mel cepstrum(root_mel cepstrum) show 9.86% and 12.68% recognition enhancement at 10dB in compare to the LPCC(Linear Prediction Cepstral Coefficient). And when combined with spectral subtraction, mel cepstrum and root_mel cepstrum show 16.7% and 8.4% enhanced recognition rate of 94.91% and 94.28% at 10dB.
In this paper, we have experimented to improve the verification performance of speaker change detection on broadcast news. It is to enhance the input noisy speech and to apply the KL distance $D_s$ using the SNR-based weighting function $w_m$. The basic experimental system is the verification system of speaker change using GMM-UBM based KL distance D(Experiment 0). Experiment 1 applies the input noisy speech enhancement using MMSE Log-STSA. Experiment 2 applies the new KL distance $D_s$ to the system of Experiment 1. Experiments were conducted under the condition of 0% MDR in order to prevent missing information of speaker change. The FAR of Experiment 0 was 71.5%. The FAR of Experiment 1 was 67.3%, which was 4.2% higher than that of Experiment 0. The FAR of experiment 2 was 60.7%, which was 10.8% higher than that of experiment 0.

This paper presents a preprocessing method to modify the input audio signals of a speech coder to obtain the finally enhanced signals at the decoder. For the purpose, we introduce the noise suppression (NS) scheme and the adaptive gain control (AGC) where an audio input and its coding error are considered as a noisy signal and a noise, respectively. The coding error is suppressed from the input and then the suppressed input is level aligned to the original input by the following AGC operation. Consequently, this preprocessing method makes the spectral energy of the music input redistributed all over the spectral domain so that the preprocessed music can be coded more effectively by the following coder. As an artifact, this procedure needs an additional encoding pass to calculate the coding error. However, it provides a generalized formulation applicable to a lot of existing speech coders. By preference listening tests, it was indicated that the proposed approach produces significant enhancements in the perceived music qualities.

An adaptive cooperation system is considered with the cooperation decision strategy based on the differences between instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) S-D and R-D channels. Specifically, if the quality of the direct link (S-D) is better than that of the link from the relay to the destination (R-D), the source will transmit to destination directly with all scheme's transmitted power. Otherwise, the source broadcasts the signal with a lower power in the first time slot. Then, in the second time slot, if the relay decodes its received signal correctly, it re-transmits the re-encoded signal to the destination else the source will transmit again with the remaining power. Firstly, the spectral efficiency is derived by calculating the probabilities of direct transmission and cooperation mode. Subsequently, the BER performance for the adaptive cooperation schemes is analyzed by considering the BER routine of each mode. Finally, the Monte-Carlo simulation results are presented to confirm the performance enhancement offered by the proposed schemes.

In the area of digital signal processing, it is necessary to improve the quality of the speech signal after removing the background noise which exists in a various real environments. The important thing to consider when removing the background noise acoustically is that to solve the problem, depending on the information of the human auditory mechanism is mainly the amplitude spectrum of the speech signal. This paper introduces the characteristics of a frequency-weighted spectrum shaping filter for the extraction of the amplitude spectrum of the speech signal with the primary purpose. Therefore, this paper proposes an algorithm using the methods of a Wiener filter and the frequency-weighted spectrum shaping filter according to the acoustic model, after extracted the amplitude spectral information in the noisy speech signal. The spectral distortion (SD) output of the proposed algorithm is experimentally improved more than 5.28 dB compared to a conventional method.
We attempted the first measurement of the spectral width of the nickel-like molybdenum x-ray laser (${\lambda}\;=\;18.895\;nm$) by use of a high-resolution spectrometer in order to determine the strength of the magnetic field required for the generation of a circularly polarized x-ray laser. The spectral width was measured to be ${\Delta}{\lambda}\;=\;18\;m{\AA}$ under the substantial lasing condition. The magnetic field required for the generation of a circularly polarized x-ray laser was 40 T. The splitting of the x-ray laser line was clearly obtained under 15 T external magnetic field. The strength of the magnetic field estimated from the splitting of the x-ray laser line was large compared with the external magnetic field. It implies that there might be an alternative mechanism for enhancement of the magnetic field in the gain medium plasma.

In this paper, we propose a new adaptive cooperation scheme with multi-relay nodes which achieves higher performance and spectral efficiency than that of some conventional cooperative schemes. The relay-selection is applied to choose the most potential relay among K ones. Afterward, the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) differences between S-D, S-R and R-D channels are considered for adaptive selection between the direct and the cooperation transmission strategy. In the proposed adaptive protocol, if the direct link is of high quality, the source will transmit to destination directly with all power consumption. Otherwise, the source broadcasts the signal with a lower power and requires the help of the chosen relay if it decodes correctly, else the source will transmit again with remaining power. Firstly, the spectral efficiency is derived by calculating the probability of each mode. Subsequently, the BER performance for the adaptive cooperation scheme is analyzed by considering each event that one of K relays is selected and then making the summation of all. Finally, the numerical results are presented to confirm the performance enhancement offered by the proposed schemes.
