  • We present analysis results of the energy spectra of MCG-2-58-22 associated with occasional flares which appear in a long-term X-ray light curve. We measure an intrinsic power-law slope of this object to be ${\Gamma}=1.74{\pm}0.02$ in the energy range of ${\sim}1-5keV$ and find that this slope is little affected by flares. We confirm that there exists a broad excess emission above 5 keV to the power-law continuum. The excess emission is less variable compared with a flux variation of flare and tends to be relatively weak during flares. A soft X-ray spectrum is also found to change, implying the presence of a variable soft component. We discuss the implications of these spectral variations.

  • The dampness by treating the surface with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film was measured to grasp the plasma parameters and was observed the surface condition with an atomic force microscope (AFM) to find the causes of the dampness. Also, the vibrational and rotational temperatures in the plasma were calculated after identifying the radicals within the plasma by analyzing the emission spectral with an emission spectrum. The hydrophilic properties were enhanced, by treating the surface of the PET film with non-equilibrium atmospheric discharge plasma. When the rotational temperature was 0.22 to 0.31 eV within the plasma, surface modification control could be easily carried out to surface treatment of PET film on non-equilibrium atmospheric pressure plasma.

  • Non-vacuum processing technology was used to produce $Cs_3Sb$ photocathodes on substrates and fabricate in-situ panel devices. Electrical properties of these panel devices were characterized by measuring anode current and charge dose as functions of devices operation time. An excitation light source with a 475 nm wavelength was used for photocathodes. Results showed that emission properties of these photocathode emitters depended heavily on the vacuum level of these devices and that $Cs_3Sb$ flat emitters had the potential of operating for a long lifetime with stable electron emission characteristics via re-cesiation process in the panel device. These features make $Cs_3Sb$ photocathodes suitable as flat emitters in panel device applications.

  • Observing sub-mm continuum emission from cold dust can play an important role in measuring star formation rates of galaxies, especially in the case of AGN host ones, since AGNs contaminate FIR fluxes by dust heating. To measure star formation rates, we observed total 49 local AGN host galaxies(z<0.2) by SCUBA-2 camera at James Clerk Maxwell Telescope(JCMT) at 450㎛ and 850㎛. We performed several tests with the observed images to determine whether each source is detected, and adopted 3s as the flux upper limit in non-detection cases. Using these measurements and FIR archival data, we modeled spectral energy distributions of the galaxies to estimate star formation rates. The effect of AGN activity on host galaxy star formation will be discussed.

  • We measured temporal and emission properties of quiescent magnetars using archival Chandra and XMM-Newton data, produced a list of the properties for 17 magnetars, and revisited previously suggested correlations between the properties. Our studies carried out with a larger sample, better spectral characterizations, and more thorough analyses not only confirmed previously-suggested correlations but also found new ones. The observed correlations differ from those seen in other neutron-star populations but generally accord with magnetar models. Specifically, the trends of the intriguing correlations of blackbody luminosity (LBB) with the spin-inferred dipole magnetic field strength (BS) and characteristic age (τc) were measured to be LBB ∝ B1.5S and LBB ∝ τ-0.6c, supporting the twisted magnetosphere and magnetothermal evolution models for magnetars. We report the analysis results and discuss our findings in the context of magnetar models.

  • Interference effects of ultra-wideband devices using the frequency band from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz on wireless broadband are evaluated. The ultra-wideband emission power spectral density that would be necessary to protect a wireless broadband station is considered. Also, an analytic scheme based on a system level simulation of a WiBro system is proposed.

  • KAISTSAT-4 is to be launched in August 2003 into an orbit at 800 km altitude with the intended mission shared between astrophysics and space physics. The primary objective of its astrophysics mission is to provide spectral sky survey data of hot Galactic plasmas in the far-ultraviolet wavelength range. Far-Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (FIMS) is sensitive to emission line fluxes in 900 - 1175 $\AA$ and 1335 - 1750 $\AA$. (omitted)

  • There are observational difficulties determining dynamical masses of binary star components in the upper HR diagram both due to the scarcity of massive binary systems and spectral and photometric contamination produced by the strong wind outflows in these systems. We discuss how variable X-ray emission in these systems produced by wind-wind collisions in massive binaries can be used to constrain the system parameters, with application to two important massive binaries, Eta Carinae and WR 140.
