  • This paper presents a novel method for estimating reliable noise spectral magnitude for acoustic background noise suppression where only a single microphone recording is available. The proposed method finds noise estimates from spectral magnitudes measured at line spectral frequencies (LSFs), under the observation that adjacent LSFs are near the peak frequencies and isolated LSFs are close to the relatively flattened valleys of LPC spectra. The parameters used in the proposed method are LPC coefficients, their corresponding LSFs, and the gain of LPC residual signals, so it suits well to LPC-based speech coders.

  • Spectral reflrectance of the object should be measured to predict the color of object under various illuminants. The spectral reflectance can be represented in a multidemensional space. Generally we can obtain only three-channel data from input device such as CCD camera, color scanner etc. The estimation from three dimensional to multidimension can be achieved using principal components of spectral reflectance. In this paper, A method to predict the spectral reflectance of skin color taken by 3-channel input device is discribed. To confirm this method, we simulate color represent under various illuminants about yellow, white and colored women face.

  • The Estimation method for spectral reflectance of the object using five-band and nine-band have been developed. The five-band acquisition are required of five or three times same work for color image acquisition process. To solve the above problems, we proposed a new method that can be reconstructed spectral reflectance of object. The proposed method was to classify same hues corresponding a color stimulus, by using hue angle and chroma vector of a color stimulus. The reconstruction of spectral reflectance was examined by computer simulation, and evaluated by MSE(Mean Square Error) and color difference between the original and reconstructed spectral reflectance.

  • This Paper presents a general algorithm for the parameter estimation of an antoregressive moving average process observed in additive white noise. The algorithm is based on the Gauss-Newton recursive prediction error method. For the parameter estimation, the output measurement is modelled as an innovation process using the spectral factorization, so that noise free RPE ARMA estimation can be used. Using apriori known properties leads to algorithm with smaller computation and better accuracy be the parsimony principle. Computer simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for multipath channel parameter estimation by an improved Prony method. This algorithm applies a modified regularized spectral estimation to the conventional SVD Prony method. This method requires no a priori information on the number of multipath. The performance of the proposed algorithm is almost the same as that of the SVD based multipath channel parameter estimation algorithm.

  • Many depth estimation techniques for magnetic exploration, such as the slope methods, graphica1 methods, spectral analysis, and Fourier ana1ysis have been published. Nevertheless, it appears that the half-slope method of Peters(1949)and the maximum-slop method of Vacquier et. al. (1951)are more popular and widely used by geophysicists in the hydrocarbon exploration industry. The slope methods are not only simpler and easier to use but are also genera1ly reliable. The spectral method is fast, effective, and powerful in the determination of an average depth. The often unreliable results produced from spectral techniques are attributed to their application to isolated magnetic anomaly cases. The reliability and limitations associated with the method are given in order to minimize problems and increase accuracy in the application of the method.

  • Reverberation time (T60) is a typical acoustic parameter that provides information about reverberation. Since the impacts of reverberation vary depending on the frequency bands even in the same space, frequency-dependent (FD) T60, which offers detailed insights into the acoustic environments, can be useful. However, most conventional blind T60 estimation methods, which estimate the T60 from speech signals, focus on fullband T60 estimation, and a few blind FDT60 estimation methods commonly show poor performance in the low-frequency bands. This paper introduces a modified approach based on Attentive pooling based Weighted Sum of Spectral Decay Rates (AWSSDR), previously proposed for blind T60 estimation, by extending its target from fullband T60 to FDT60. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms conventional blind FDT60 estimation methods on the acoustic characterization of environments (ACE) challenge evaluation dataset. Notably, it consistently exhibits excellent estimation performance in all frequency bands. This demonstrates that the mechanism of the AWSSDR method is valuable for blind FDT60 estimation because it reflects the FD variations in the impact of reverberation, aggregating information about FDT60 from the speech signal by processing the spectral decay rates associated with the physical properties of reverberation in each frequency band.

  • The optimum maximum voiced frequency (MVF) estimation-based two-band excitation for hidden Markov model-based speech synthesis is presented. An analysis-by-synthesis scheme is adopted for the MVF estimation which leads to the minimum spectral distortion of synthesized speech. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improves synthetic speech quality.

  • Various kinds of fatigue failures of ocean structures were reported and the importance of fatigue life estimation at the design state is significantly recognized and various kinds of analysis approaches have been discussed. In this paper characteristics of the simplified method proposed here and the spectral method are studied and the elements of the approach are discussed. The merits and demerits of the forementioned analysis schemes are studied and the relating parameters such as SCF and S-N curves are also investigated. The simplified fatigue analysis approach and tile spectral fatigue analysis technique is applied for the analysis of bracing members of typical semi-submersible drilling rig structure for the verification of the usage of two methods and the sensitivity study has been performed using the simplified method. The result from the spectral analysis give a more realistic picture of the fatigue life of the offshore structure considered here.
