  • We have numerically analysed the effects of the light sourer spectral power distortion in an optical CDMA system using PN codes and FBGI for ultra-fast multi-access optical networks. The interference between two CDMA channels decreases with an increase in the code length and the .simultaneous access number is equal to the code length in the region of 0 to 15% spectral power distortion. As a result, the spectral power distortion with optical spectrum is very important in designing the optical CDMA systems.

  • This paper proposes a scheme to reduce spectral distortion in PAN-sharpening which produces a MultiSpectral image (MS) with the higher resolution of PANchromatic image (PAN). The spectral distortion results from reconstructing spatial details of PAN image in the MS image. The proposed method employs Spectral Adjustment and Anisotropic Diffusion to make a reduction of the distortion. The spectral adjustment makes the PAN-sharpened image agree with the original MS image, but causes block distortion because the spectral response of a pixel in the lower resolution is assumed to be equal to the average response of the pixels belonging to the corresponding area in the higher resolution at a same wavelength. The block distortion is corrected by the anisotropic diffusion which uses a conduct coefficient estimating from a local computation of PAN image. It results in yielding a PAN-sharpened image with the spatial structure of PAN image. GSA is one of PAN-sharpening techniques which are efficient in computation as well as good in quantitative quality evaluation. This study suggests the GSA as a preliminary PAN-sharpening method. Two data sets were used in the experiment to evaluate the proposed scheme. One is a Dubaisat-2 image of $1024{\times}1024$ observed at Los Angeles area, USA on February, 2014, the other is an IKONOS of $2048{\times}2048$ observed at Anyang, Korea on March, 2002. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme yields the PAN-sharpened images which have much less spectral distortion and better quantitative quality evaluation.

  • Although the intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) method for pan-sharpening has a spectral distortion problem, it is a popular method in the remote sensing community and has been used as a standard procedure in many commercial packages due to its fast computing and easy implementation. Recently, IHS-like approaches have tried to overcome the spectral distortion problem inherited from the IHS method itself and yielded a good result. In this paper, a similar IHS-like method with least squares for WorldView-2 pan-sharpening is presented. In particular, unlike the previous methods with three or four-band multispectral images for pan-sharpening, six bands of WorldView-2 multispectral image located within the range of panchromatic spectral radiance responses are considered in order to reduce the spectral distortion during the merging process. As a result, the new approach provides a satisfactory result, both visually and quantitatively. Furthermore, this shows great value in spectral fidelity of WorldView-2 eight-band multispectral imagery.

  • In this paper we examine the relation among law-invariant coherent risk measures with the Fatou property, distortion risk measures and spectral risk measures, and give a new proof of the relation among them. It is also shown that the spectral risk measure satisfies the monotonicity with respect to stochastic dominance and the comonotonic additivity.

  • Because individual HRTFs (Head-Related Transfer Functions) vary from a person to a person, a HRTF database has been measured by researchers to investigate the inter-subject variation, and to generate high fidelity virtual sound image. Individual HRTFs not only vary between subjects but also vary due to wearing clothes and glasses in daily life. However, influence of different dressing condition on the measured HRTF was not sufficiently investigated. To quantify the effect of wearing clothes and glasses, dummy's HRTF is measured in an anechoic chamber with various dressing condition, and is evaluated in the sense of spectral distortion. HRTFs are measured both in the median plane and in the horizontal plane. In the median plane, under 6kHz, effect of different wearing clothes and glasses is negligible. Over 6kHz, however, effect of clothing distorts HRTF about 6dB in the sense of spectral distortion. Moreover, at high frequencies, effect of glasses is no longer negligible. In the horizontal plane, at some azimuths, even additional light cloth over the dummy can change the spectrum of HRTF (6dB spectral distortion) especially when sound source is at contralateral positions. Therefore, HRTF measurement with different wearing conditions can broaden the capability of HRTF customization whose technique utilizes a HRTF database.

  • In this paper, a new temporal decomposition method is proposed. which takes into consideration not only spectral distortion but also bit rates. The interpolation functions, which are one of necessary parameters for temporal decomposition, are obtained from the training speech corpus. Since the interval between the two targets uniquely defines the interpolation function, the interpolation can be represented without additional information. The locations of the targets are determined by minimizing the bit rates while the maximum spectral distortion maintains below a given threshold. The proposed method has been applied to compressing the LSP coefficients which are widely used as a spectral parameter. The results of the simulation show that an average spectral distortion of about 1.4 dB can be achieved at an average bit rate of about 8 bits/Frame.

  • In remote sensing, it has been a difficult task to obtain a multispectral image with high spatial resolution because of the technical limitation of satellite sensors. In order to solve these problems, various pansharpening algorithms have been tried and proposed. However, most pansharpened images created by various approaches tend to distort the spectral characteristics of the original multispectral image or decrease the visual sharpness of the panchromatic image. To minimize the spectral distortion of pansharpened image while preserving spatial information of the panchromatic image, a hybrid pansharpening algorithm based on the spatial correlation was proposed. In this paper, we analyzed the spatial and spectral distortion of the hybrid pansharpened images generated by the various spatial correlation methods. In the experiments, we proved that the method by using Laplacian filtering was more efficient than other high frequency extraction algorithms in the viewpoint of spectral distortion and spatial sharpness.

  • In this paper, we propose a statistical approach to improve the performance of spectral quantization of speech coders. The proposed techniques compensate for the distortion in a decoded line spectrum pairs (LSP) vector based on a statistical mapping function between a decoded LSP vector and its corresponding original LSP vector. We first develop two codebook-based probabilistic matching (CBPM) methods based on linear mapping functions according to different assumption of distribution of LSP vectors. In addition, we propose an iterative procedure for the two CBPMs. We apply the proposed techniques to a predictive vector quantizer used for the IS-641 speech coder. The experimental results show that the proposed techniques reduce average spectral distortion by around 0.064dB.

  • Owing to its fast computing capability for fusing images, the FIHS(Fast Intensity Hue Saturation) fusion is widely used for fusion purposes. However, the FIHS fusion also distorts color in the same way such as the IHS(Intensity Hue Saturation) fusion technique. In this paper, a FIHS fusion technique(FIHS-BR) which reduces color distortion by using the ratio of each spectral band and an adaptive FIHS fusion(FIHS-SABR) using spatial information and the ratio of each spectral band are proposed. The proposed FIHS-BR fusion reduces color distortion by adding different spatial detail improvement values for each spectral band. The spatial detail improvement values are derived from the ratio of spectral band. And the proposed FIHS-SABR fusion reduces more color distortion by readjusting the spatial detail improvement values for each spectral band according to the ratio of the spectral bands. The spatial detail improvement values are derived adaptively from the characteristics of spatial information of the local image. To evaluate the performance of the proposed FIHS-BR fusion and FIHS-SABR fusion, a computer simulation is performed for IKONOS remote sensing image. Results from the experiments show that the proposed methods have less color distortion for the forest regions which reveal severe color distortion in the traditional FIHS fusion. From the evaluation results of the characteristics of spectral information for fused image, we show that the proposed methods have best results.

  • This paper proposes a speech state-dependent spectral subtraction method to regulate the blind spectral subtraction for improved enhancement. In the proposed method, a modified subtraction rule is applied over the speech selectively contingent to the speech state being voiced or unvoiced, in an effort to incorporate the acoustic characteristics of phonemes. In particular, the objective of the proposed method is to remedy the subtraction induced signal distortion attained by two state-dependent procedures, spectrum sharpening and minimum spectral bound. In order to remove the residual noise, the proposed method employs a procedure utilizing the masking effect. Proposed spectral subtraction including state-dependent subtraction and residual noise reduction using the masking threshold shows effectiveness in compensation of spectral distortion in the unvoiced region and residual noise reduction.
