Behavior of lightweight aggregate concrete voided slabs

  • Reducing the self-weight of reinforced concrete structures problem is discussed in this paper by using two types of self-weight reduction, the first is by using lightweight coarse aggregate (crushed brick) and the second is by using styropor block. Experimental and Numerical studies are conducted on (LWAC) lightweight aggregate reinforced concrete slabs, having styropor blocks with various sizes of blocks and the ratio of shear span to the effective depth (a/d). The experimental part included testing eleven lightweight concrete one-way simply supported slabs, comprising three as reference slabs (solid slabs) and eight as styropor block slabs (SBS) with a total reduction in cross-sectional area of (43.3% and 49.7%) were considered. The holes were formed by placing styropor at the ineffective concrete zones in resisting the tensile stresses. The length, width, and thickness of specimen dimensions were 1.1 m, 0.6 m, and 0.12 m respectively, except one specimen had a depth of 85 mm (which has a cross-sectional area equal to styropor block slab with a weight reduction of 49.7%). Two shear spans to effective depth ratios (a/d) of (3.125) for load case (A) and (a/d) of (2) for load case (B), (two-line monotonic loads) are considered. The test results showed under loading cases A and B (using minimum shear reinforcement and the reduction in cross-sectional area of styropor block slab by 29.1%) caused an increase in strength capacity by 60.4% and 54.6 % compared to the lightweight reference slab. Also, the best percentage of reduction in cross-sectional area is found to be 49.7%. Numerically, the computer program named (ANSYS) was used to study the behavior of these reinforced concrete slabs by using the finite element method. The results show acceptable agreement with the experimental test results. The average difference between experimental and numerical results is found to be (11.06%) in ultimate strength and (5.33%) in ultimate deflection.

충격하중을 받은 CFRP 적층판의 손상거동과 잔류굽힘피로강도 (Damage Behavior and Residual Bending Fatigue Strength of CFRP Composite Laminates Subjected to Impact Loading)

  • In this paper, static and fatigue bending strengths of CFRP(carbon fiber reinforced plastic laminates having impact damage(FOD) are evaluated. Composite laminates used for this experiment are CF/EPOXY and CF/PEEK orthotropy laminated plates, which have two-interfaces[${0^0}_4{90^0}_4}$]$_sym$. A steel ball launched by the air gun colides against CFRP laminates to generate impact damages. The damage growth during bending fatigue test is observed by the scanning acoustic microscope(SAM). When the impacted side is compressed, the residual fatigue bending strength of CF/PEEK specimen P is greater that that of CF/EPOXY SPECIMEN B. On the other hand, when the impacted side is in tension, the residual fatigue bending strength of CF/PEEK speicemen P is smaller than that of CF/EPOXY specimen B. In the case of impacted-side compression, fracture is proposed from the transverse crack generated near impact point. On the other hand, fracture is developed toward the impact point from the edge of interface-b delamination in the case of impacted-side tension.

볼 충격을 받는 유리의 콘크랙형성에 대한 실링재료의 영향 (The Effects of Sealing Materials in Cone Crack Formation of Soda-lime Glass by Ball Impact)

  • In order to investigate the possibility of punching process of brittle material by ball impact, the effects of sealing materials about impact damage of soda-lime glass by small spheres were evaluated experimentally. The using of sealing materials in the development of perfect cone crack was more effective than no using of sealing materials. At the sealing materials condition, in the case of 5mm-thick specimen, Copper and PMMA sealing were more effective in producing a perfect cone formation than the other sealing materials. And in the case of 8mm-thick specimen, Aluminum sealing was most effective in producing a perfect cone formation. The impact velocity range over which perfect cones were formed was influenced by both the thickness of specimen and sealing materials. By a proper selection of sealing materials, the application fur industrial technology for hole (or nozzle) punching process of brittle materials is expected.

모래 지반 내에 형성된 공극이 전단강도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Void Formation on Shear Strength of Sand)

  • In this study, the effect of void formation resulting from gas hydrate dissociation or loss of some particles within soil structure on the strength of soil is examined. Beag-ma river sands with uniform gradation were used to simulate a gas hydrate bearing or washable soil structure. Empty capsules for medicine are used to mimic large voids, which are bigger than soil particle. Beag-ma river sand was miced with 8% cement ratio and 14% water content and compacted into a shear box. The number and direction embedded into a specimen. After 4 hours curing, a series of direct shear test is performed on the capsule embedded cemented sands. Shear strength of cemented sands with capsules depends on the volume and direction. The volume and direction formed by voids are most important factors in strength. A shear strength of a specimen with large voids decreases up to 39% of a specimen without void. The results of this study can be used to predict the strength degradation of gas hydrate bearing sediments after dissociation and loss of fine particles within soil structure.

  • The chemical conversion coating formed on magnesium alloy investigated for low cost and harmless in environment by using the colloidal silica as the main component. The film formed in 298 K is thick, the film, which was thought combination of Si-O, was formed. The film formed in 313 K is thinner than that in 298 K. The quantity of film formed at high temperature such as 333 K and 353 K is smaller than dissolved quantity. At the anodic polarization experiment, corrosion resistance in sealing by hot water after chemical conversion treatment in basic solution condition get worse than that in comparison with basic solution condition. In salt spray test, the ratio of black rust on specimen that did not conducted chemical conversion treatment was five times or more compared with those of chemical conversion treated specimen. The film thickness of chemical conversion coating produced by alkali treatment process is thinner than in comparison with that of specimen produced in basic chemical conversion treatment solution condition. It is thought, however, that it showed good corrosion resistance during salt spray test because the area of microcracks is small.

수종 아말감의 Anodic Polarization에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE ANODIC POLARIZATION OF DENTAL AMALGAMS)

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the anodic polarization curve from 4 kinds of low copper amalgam (Fine cut alloy, Spheralloy, Aristalloy and Amalcap) and 4 kinds of high copper amalgam (Dispersalloy, Sybraloy Orosphere and Tytin) obtained by using the potentiostat. The specimen made as the direction of manufacturer was stored at room temperature for about 7 days. The standard surface preparation was routinely carried out. The 0.9% saline solution was used as electrolyte in pH 6.8-7.0 at $37^{\circ}C$. The open circuit potential was determined after 30 minutes' immersion of specimen. The scan rate was 1mV/sec and the surface area of amalgam exposed to the solution was 0.785$cm^2$ for each specimen. All potentials reported are with respect to Ag/AgCl eelctrode. The following results were obtained. 1. The corrosion potential of high copper amalgams was higher than one of low copper amalgams, and the current density of high copper amalgam was lower than one of low copper amalgams. 2. The low copper amalgams had the similar pattern of polarization curve, but the high copper amalgams had the different pattern one another. 3. The polarization curve of Orosphere amalgam which is the admixed type was similar to one of low copper amalgam.

소형 잔향실의 확산 음장 보정 계수 측정 연구 (The Study on Correction Factor of a Small Scale Reverberation Chamber to Estimate Transmission Loss)

  • Transmission loss of specimen is calculated by measuring energy of incident and transmission and using reverberant room of large size. But normal measurement of transmission loss has trouble because it is actually demanded that large area and specimen of certain size is satisfied with condition of diffused sound field. Especially, in case of mechanical component, interested frequency band is mid-frequency band between 500 ~ 2k Hz, and it is used to be available to minimize a reverberation chamber under conditions satisfying acoustic one because production of specimen for transmission loss measurement has limit. But, as in semi-reverberation room, it is difficult to satisfy condition of diffuse sound field and modification factor is applied to complement that. Correction factor when measuring transmission loss using semi-reverberation chamber is required accuracy because it works as main factor determining reliability of reuslts on transmission loss. In this study, it is analyzed that an effect on correction factor based on varying materials and sizes of specimens in order to deduction of it. Also It is confirmed that applied by elicited correction factor with actual railway vehicle's floor has reliability.

  • Titanium alloy sheets have excellent specific strength and corrosion resistance as well as good performance at high temperature. Recently, titanium alloys are widely employed not only aerospace parts but also bio prothesis and motorcycle. However, due to the low formability and large spring back at room temperature, titanium alloy sheets were usually formed by slow forming or hot forming with heating die and specimen. In the sheet metal forming area, FE simulation technique to optimize forming process is widely used. To achieve high accuracy FE simulation results, Identification of material properties and deformation characteristic such as yield function are very important. In this study, uniaxial tensile and biaxial tensile test of Ti-6Al-4V alloy sheet with thickness of 1.0mm were performed at elevated temperature of 873k. Biaxial tensile tests with cruciform specimen were performed until the specimen was breakdown to characterize the yield locus of Ti-6Al-4V alloy sheet. The experimental results for yield locus are compared with the theoretical predictions based on Von Mises, Hill, Logan-Hosford, and Balat's model. Among these Logan-Hosford's yield criterion well predicts the experimental results.

3D-ESPI System을 이용한 응력집중부의 변형률 측정기법 연구 (The Research of the Strain Measuement Method on the Stress Concentration Area using 3D-ESPI System)

  • In this paper, the tensile test of three kinds of the specimens was performed. Type I specimen is without notch and type II, III specimens have a radius of semi-circular edge crack of 2.5mm, 4.0mm. The tensile load(20kN and 30kN) was applied to the specimen by Universal Testing Machine. 3D-ESPI system and strain gauge measured simultaneously the strain in the center of the specimen and near the edge crack. The test results were compared with each other. Moreover, the stress concentration factor based on geometric information was calculated to confirm the accuracy of the strain measured by 3D-ESPI system. The calculated strain was compared with the measured one by 3D-ESPI system. As a result, it was confirmed that 3D-ESPI system measured the right strain near the semi-circular edge crack of the specimens.

PET 필름에서 응력 진동으로 유도된 불투명 존의 부식 (The corrosion of the opaque zone induced under stress oscillation in PET film)

  • 필름형 poly ethylene terephthalate(PET)를 0~1000 mm/min의 속도로 단계적으로 연신시켰을 때, 플라스틱 변형이 일어나면서 형성되는 넥킹 거동을 조사하였다. 필름형 시편을 약 20~100 mm/min의 속도로 연신시켰을 때, 얻어진 응력-변형 곡선에서 응력 진동이 뚜렷하게 발생하였지만, 약 200~500 mm/min의 속도로 연신시켰을 때, 응력 진동이 발생하지 않았다. 약 50 mm/min의 속도로 연신된 시편에서 투명/불투명 존 및 단면을 광학 현미경과 주사형 전자 현미경으로 관찰하였다. NaOH 알칼리 용액 내에서 약 50 mm/min의 속도로 연신된 시편의 부식 특성을 광학 현미경으로 관찰하였다.
