  • The Titanium has many superior characteristics which are specific strength, heat resistance, corrosion resistance, organism compatibility, non-magnetic and etc. and their quantity are abundant. this study performed turning operation of Ti-6Al-4V alloy using the TiAlN Coated Tool which treated Physical Vapor Deposition. Experimental works are also executed to measure cutting force, tool wear, chip figuration and surface roughness for different cutting conditions. As a result of study. Cutting depth influences on the cutting force much more than the feed rate and the value of the cutting force is the most stable at the depth of 1.0mm. And tool wear was serious at over 100m/min of cutting speed and cutting condition was excellent at 1.0mm of cutting depth.

  • The properties of materials which are widely used in industry fields like automobile, shipbuilding, casting, and electronics are strongly needed to have higher surface hardness, lower surface roughness, and higher compressive residual stress. As mentioned above, for the purpose of satisfying three factors, a variety of researches with respect to surface improvement have been actively studied and applied to every industry. SKD61 which is mostly used for die casting process of cold chamber method must meet a countless number of problems which are thermal, mechanical and chemical from highly specific working environment at high temperature over 600℃. Above all, in case of plunger sleeves used for die casting process, thermal fatigue has a bad effect on the surface of an inlet where molten metal is repeatedly injected. On account of it, plunger sleeves cause manufacturers to deteriorate quality of products. Therefore, in this paper, to improve the surface of an inlet of plunger sleeve, multilayer PVD coating using Ti, Cr and Mo is suggested. Furthermore, The surface characteristics such as surface roughness(Rsa, Rsq), surface hardness(HRB, HRC) and residual stress using XRD(X-ray diffractometer) of coated samples and specimens are studied and discussed.

  • In Spray Forming, specific enthalpy is a key parameter in the deposition process as it influences the thermal condition of the impinging droplets as well as that of the deposit surface. An empirical model for the distribution of specific enthalpy in the spray cone was developed as an easy to handle alternative to numerical models with which the descriptive partial differential equations are solved numerically. The model results were compared with the experimental data to validate its applicability.

  • In the present work appropriate concrete material models have been proposed to predict drying shrinkage and specific creep of High-performance concrete (HPC) using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The ANN models are trained, tested and validated using 106 different experimental measured set of data collected from different literatures. The developed models consist of 12 input parameters which include quantities of ingredients namely ordinary Portland cement, fly ash, silica fume, ground granulated blast-furnace slag, water, and other aggregate to cement ratio, volume to surface area ratio, compressive strength at age of loading, relative humidity, age of drying commencement and age of concrete. The Feed-forward backpropagation networks with Levenberg-Marquardt training function are chosen for proposed ANN models and same implemented on MATLAB platform. The results shows that the proposed ANN models are more rational as well as computationally more efficient to predict time-dependent properties of drying shrinkage and specific creep of HPC with high level accuracy.

  • In this talk we discuss the dynamics of hydrogen on the Si(100)-2xl surface. At room temperature the sticking coefficient for molecular hydrogen on this surface is less than 10sup-12. However, hydrogen molecules desorbing from the surface do not have an excess of energy, suggesting at best a small barrier on the exit channel. These observations have led to speculation about the validity of detailed balance in this system. Here we show that this discrepancy can be explained by considering both the surface-molecule co-ordinate and that associated with the Si-Si dimer bond tiltangle. By preparing the surface dimers with a specific tiltangle we demonstrate that the barrier to adsorption is a function of this angle and that the sticking coefficient dramatically increase for certain angles. The adsorption-desopption dynamics can then be described in terms of a common potential energy hypersurface involving both of these co-ordinates. The implications of these observations are also discussed. The dynamics of adsorbed hydrogen atoms on the Si(100) surface is also described. Paired dangling bonds produced following recombinative hydrogen desorption are mobile at elevated temperatures. Pairs of dangling bonds are observed to dissociate, diffuse, and ultimately recombine. At sufficiently elevated temperatures dangling bond exchange reactions are observed. These data are analyzed in terms of an attractive zone and an effective binding interaction between dangling bonds. Insights that this provides into the nature of surface defects and the localized chemistry that occurs on this surface, are also discussed.

  • Obstacle defines all fixed and mobile objects, or parts thereof, that are located on an area intended for the surface movement of aircraft or extend above a defined surface intended to protect aircraft in flight or stand outside those defined surfaces and that have been assessed as being a hazard to air navigation. The airspace around airports are maintained free from obstacles so as to permit the intended aeroplane operations at the airports to be conducted safely and to prevent the airports from becoming unusable by the growth of obstacles around the airports. This is achieved by establishing a series of obstacle limitation surfaces or airspace imaginary surfaces that define the limits to which objects may project into the airspace. This is a case study that shows an application of obstacle limitation criteria, which must be maintained free from an critical obstacle, for specific conditions of two airports. For the purpose of the application, aeronautical studies/flight safety influence assessments were used to identify possible solutions and select a solution that is acceptable without degrading aviation safety.

  • With the advances in recent nanotechnology, mass transport phenomena have been receiving large attention both in academic researches and industrial applications. Nonetheless, it is not clearly determined which parameters are dominant at nanoscale mass transport. Especially, membrane is a kind of technology that use a selective separation to secure fresh water. The development of great separation membrane and membrane-based separation system is an important way to solve existing water resource problems. In this study, glass fiber-based membranes which are treated by graphene oxide (GO), poly-styrene sulfonate (GOP) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (GPS) were fabricated. Mass transport parameters were investigated in terms of material-specific and structure-specific dominance. The 3D structural information of GO, GOP, and GPS was obtained by using synchrotron X-ray nano tomography. In addition, electrostatic characteristic and water absorption rate of the membranes were investigated. As a result, we calculated internal structural information using Tomadakis-Sotrichos model, and we found that manipulation of surface characteristics can improve spacer arm effect, which means enhancement of water permeability by control length of ligand and surface charge functionality of the membrane.

  • The microporous carbon derived from PVDC-resin by a simple heat-treatment under an inert atmosphere exhibits a reasonable specific capacitance for a supercapacitor's electrode. However, the capacitance was rapidly decreased at high charge/discharge rate. The micropores present in an electrode surface hinder the entrance of an electrolyte ion onto the entire surface. To induce the meso-sized pores during the carbonization of PVDC-resin, Mg(OH)2 was utilized as a hard template. The porous carbon made from the mixture of PVD-Cresin and Mg(OH)2 include mesopores as well as micropores. The induced mesopores does not homogeneously distributed on the entire surface of the synthesized carbon. The PVDC-resin and Mg(OH)2 are dissolved in the dimethylformamide for the hard template to evolve the pores on the synthesized carbon uniformly. The carbon made from PVDC-resin with solvent and a hard template contains mostly mesopores resulting in the high power performance. The reduced amount of solvent in the precursor derives the carbon with high specific surface area and high power density.

  • A plastically deformed layer in the precision machined surface affects in various forms the physical properties of machined components such as the fatigue strength, the dimensional instability, microcracks and the stress corrosion cracking. These physical properties, so called surface integrity, are very important for designing highly stressed and critically loaded components. Typical plastic strains in the precision machined surface are very difficult to measure, since they are located within a very short distance from the surface and they change very rapidly. A new way is suggested to determine the residual strain in plastically deformed materials by analyzing the plastically deformed layer after a subsequent recrystallization process. This investigation is to explore a new technique for measuring plastic strain in machining applications, and in particular, to and the effect of cutting parameters(rake angle, depth of cut, specific cutting energy), on the plastic strains and strain energy.

  • In this study, nuclease-resistant RNA aptamers that are specific for Jurkat T leukemia cells were selected by a subtractive systemic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) method. A randomized nuclease-resistant RNA library was incubated with normal peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) in each round to preclude RNAs that recognize the common cellular components on the surface of normal and cancer cells. The precluded RNAs were used for the selection of Jurkat T cell-specific aptamers, and the specific RNAs were then gradually enriched from start to the following selections. After 16 rounds of the subtractive SELEX, the selected aptamers were found to preferentially bind to Jurkat T cells, but not to the normal PBMC, evidenced by fluorescence-activated cell sorting analysis. Thus, the subtractive SELEX can be used to identify ligands to cancer-specific biological markers without prior knowledge of the nature of markers. The aptamers could be applied to specific cell sorting, tumor therapy, and diagnosis, and moreover, to find cancer cell-specific markers.
