The objective of this study were to develop a cooling simulation model for fixed-bed of rough rice and to analyze the factors affecting cooling time of rough rice. A computer simulation model based on equilibrium conditions between grain and air was developed to predict temperature and moisture content changes during cooling of rough rice. the result of t-test showed that there were no significant differences between predicted and measured temperature changes on significance model agreed well with measured values. This cooling simulation model was applied to analyze the effect of some factors, such as air flow rate, cooling air temperature and humidity, initial grain temperature and moisture content, and bed depth, on cooling time of rough rice. Cooling rate increased with increase of air flow rate and bed depth whereas it decreased with increase of cooling air temperature and humidity and initial grain temperature. Among these factors, the most important factor was air flow rate. Specific air flow rate of 0.35㎥/min㎥ was required for cooling rough rice in 24 hours.
This study was focused on estimating instream flow, and its optimal alternative for securing the required total amount of instream flow was also researched in order to restore ecosystems and riverine aesthetics of the Mugeo Stream. the first tributary of the Taewha River flowing through the center of Ulsan. In this study the hydraulic and hydrologic conditions and water quality were investigated at specific channel reaches and representative stations of the Mugeo Stream to determine a proper estimate of instream flow. And riverine functions, such as the minimum flow, water duality conservation, fish habitat, and recreation, were considered to restore the environmental functions of the stream, As a result, the total amount of $11,500m^3/day$ was set as the target instream flow for the Mugeo Stream. It was chosen as the optimal alternative for securing the total external supply of $10,000m^3/day$ which have to be transfered from the riverbed flow diverted through the Taewha Main river at upstream of Samho bridge. The water duality throughout the Mugeo Stream channels will be improved considerably to 3-4 mg/l of BOD standard if the target instream flow is supplied and sewage is intercepted by the sanitary sewage system.
Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) continue to be among the most promising alternative energy devices. This paper addresses i-V characteristics of SOFC with a focus on air flow rate along the planar anode electrodes. To address this, detailed Butler-Volmer kinetics are implemented in a general-purpose CFD code FLUENT. The numerical results were validated against experimental data from the literature showing excellent match with i-V polarization data ranging 1V-0.4V. Numerical calculations of fuel cell operation under different flow rare conditions were performed in three-dimensional geometries. Results are presented in terms of concentration distribution of hydrogen, oxygen, and water. The simulations and results indicate that advanced CFD with UDF(User-Defined Function) of Butler-Volmer kinetics can be used to identify the conditions leading to air flow rate and specific surface area and guide development of operating conditions and improve the fuel cell system performance.

A photovoltaic powered ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis system was tested with a number of natural groundwaters in Australia. The objective of this study was to compare system performance at six remote field locations by assessing the impact of water composition and fluctuating energy on inorganic contaminant removal using a BW30-4040 membrane. Solar irradiance directly affected pressure and flow. Groundwater characteristics (including TDS, salts, heavy metals, and pH), impacted other performance parameters such as retention, specific energy consumption and flux. During continual system operation, retention of ions such as $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ was high (> 95%) with each groundwater which can be attributed to steric exclusion. The retention of smaller ions such as $NO_3{^-}$ was affected by weather conditions and groundwater composition, as convection/diffusion dominate retention. When solar irradiance was insufficient or fluctuations too great for system operation, performance deteriorated and retention dropped significantly (< 30% at Ti Tree). Groundwater pH affected flux and retention of smaller ions ($NO_3{^-}$ and $F^-$) because charge repulsion increases with pH. The results highlight variations in system performance (ion retention, flux, specific energy consumption) with real solar irradiance, groundwater composition, and pH conditions.
The pressure drop phenomenon that occurs when the same flow rate is supplied to the gas regulator was analyzed. The regulator moves the position of the piston through the interaction of the force acting on the upper and lower parts of the piston and the spring tension to release the pressure of a specific range in a specific environment as constant pressure, thereby maintaining the pressure. The flow characteristics and pressure control process of the regulator were investigated through a numerical analysis technique as the volume of the fluid inside the regulator changed. As the gap between the piston and the piston seat decreased, the pressure drop increased and the flow velocity increased. It was verified through numerical analysis that the piston was positioned at 0.12mm under the same conditions as the pressure-flow test (inlet pressure 3MPa, outlet pressure 0.8MPa, flow rate 70kg/h).
Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) can be a cost-effective and renewable geothermal energy source, depending on site-specific and thermohydraulic conditions. To design an effective ATES system having influenced by groundwater movement, understanding of thermo hydraulic processes is necessary. The heat transfer phenomena for an aquifer heat storage are simulated using FEFLOW with the scenario of heat pump operation with pumping and waste water reinjection in a two layered confined aquifer model. Temperature distribution of the aquifer model is generated, and hydraulic heads and temperature variations are monitored at the both wells during 365 days. The average groundwater velocities are determined with two hydraulic gradient sets according to boundary conditions, and the effect of groundwater flow are shown at the generated thermal distributions of three different depth slices. The generated temperature contour lines at the hydraulic gradient of 0.00 1 are shaped circular, and the center is moved less than 5m to the groundwater flow direction in 365 days simulation period. However at the hydraulic gradient of 0.01, the contour center of the temperature are moved to the end of boundary at each slice and the largest movement is at bottom slice. By the analysis of thermal interference data between two wells the efficiency of the heat pump system model is validated, and the variation of heads is monitored at injection, pumping and no operation mode.
The CHF in PWR rod bundles is usually predicted by the local flow correlation approach based on subchannel analysis while difficulty exists due to the existence of spacer grids especially with mixing vanes. In order to evaluate the effect of spacer grids on CHF, the experimental rod bundle data with various types of spacer grids were analyzed using the subchannel code, COBRA-IV-i. For the Plain grid data, a CHF correlation was described as a function of local flow conditions and heated length, and then the residuals of the CHF in mixing vaned grids predicted by the correlation were examined in various kinds of grids. In order to compensate for the residual, three parameters, distances between grids and from the last grids to the CHF site, and equivalent hydraulic diameter were introduced into a grid parameter function representing the remaining effect of spacer grids predicted most of the CHF data points in plaing grids within $\pm$20 percent error band. Good agreement with the CHF data was also shown when the grid parameter function for mixing vaned grids of a specific design was used to compensate for the residuals of the CHF data predicted by the correlation.
This study has analysed the ultimate loads acting on a wind turbine which is operating in a high turbulent flow condition because the ultimate loads are critical factors on the safe design of wind turbine. Since wind flow on the most parts of Korean mountainous are strongly influenced by complex configurations of the topography, turbulence intensity on somewhere is so stronger than an international design standard. For this reason, the characteristics of turbulent wind data collected from actual sites were analyzed and used for the ultimate load evaluation of the wind turbine. With the 270 design load cases on the international standards, the differences of ultimate loads on the wind turbine operating in the standard or high turbulent wind condition are calculated and compared for the an enhanced knowledge of the safe design basis. As are result, it is revealed the specific ultimate loads are strongly affected by the high turbulent wind conditions, thus the characteristics of turbulent flow must be considered during the design of wind turbine.

The sonic nozzle is widely used as reference device for calibrating flowmeters In gas flow measurement and its use requires the Critical Flow Factor(CFF) based on the thermodynamic properties of the gas at the nozzle throat. ISO-9300 provides the calculating method of the factor. But since the CFF from this method show an error over ${\pm}0.5%$ In specific conditions and of ${\pm}0.1{\sim}{\pm}0.2%$ in common Natural Gas(NG) custody transfer condition. this method cannot be applied for gas flow measurement with sonic nozzle. Each research bodies or organizations of the world have joined in order to calculate the CFF more accurately. They have performed these works using their own method and compared the results with each other under the management of ISO. KOGAS have joined those works, because the high-pressure natural gas flow calibration facility of KOGAS will be constructed in late 1999, and then had necessities to calculate a CFF accurately. The calculation method of KOGAS was using the equation of state from AGA-8('94), high accuracy model of ideal gas properties and the solutions of thermodynamic equations. The evaluation results have had a very good consistency within ${\pm}0.05%$ in most NO custody transfer conditions compared to the speed of sound for methane and also shown that the CFF was within ${\pm}0.1%$ compared to the results of other works of the world.

For the case of high head and critical low flow rate range of micro hydropower resources, it requires very low specific speed turbines which are lower than conventional impulse turbine's specific speed. In order to satisfy the request for very low specific speed turbine with high efficiency, a new positive displacement turbine is developed. The performance characteristics of the new turbine is tested and compared with a conventional impulse turbine, which is used for automatic water faucet system. The purpose of present study is to develop an high performance turbine that can be used to extract micro hydropower potential of a water supply system. The test results show that the positive displacement turbine is much more efficient than the conventional turbine and it can sustain high efficiency under the wide range of operating conditions. The pressure pulsations at the inlet and outlet of the positive displacement turbine can be considerably minimized by using simple pressure damper.
