  • The wear behaviour of steam generator (SG) tubes (Inconel 600 and 690) against support materials (405 and 409 ferritic stainless steels) has been experimentally studied in room temperature water using reciprocating wear apparatus with tube-an-plate configuration. The results showed that the wear rate of Inconel 690 was lower than that of lnconel 600 with increasing normal loads and sliding amplitudes. Also, plastic deformation layers appear below the surface of both SG tubes, which have a specific thickness and are small compared with their grain size. This means that wear rate of SG tubes in water condition is closely related to the formation and fracture of plastic deformation layers.

  • Weld overlay has been developed to improve the property of material surface which is used in the severe environment. Weld overlay is the process which uses an arc heat and welds different composition of alloy on the substrate for the improvements of heat resistance and wear resistance. Weld overlay has a lot of advantages which are high hardness, good processing efficiency, easy controlling of layer thickness, good quality and low cost. In this study, weld overlay was performed by MAG welding on the base metal(SS400) with filler metal which contain composite powders(Cr+C+Mn+Mo+NbC) and solid wire(JIS-YGW11). Characterization of hardness and wear resistance were analyzed by EDS, EPMA, XRD and observations of microstructure were performed to investigate characteristics of overlays. The experimental results of overlaid specimens manufactured with Cr+C+Mn+Mo+NbC powders were obtained as fellows. ${\alpha}-phase$, M(Fe, Cr)3C and NbC of overlays were increased with decreasing the wire feed rates and increasing powder feed rates. Also the hardness of overlays were increased and the specific wear were decreased.

  • The dry sliding wear behavior of graphite that is used as the sealing material to cut off hot gas was evaluated as a function of applied load, sliding speed and temperature. The reciprocating wear tests were carried out at room temperature and elevated temperatures. An attempt has been made to develop a mathematical model by response surface methodology and an analysis of variance technique was applied to confirm the validity of the developed model. Also, the wear mechanism was compared through the observation of the worn surface by SEM analysis.

  • The wear characteristics and wear mechanisms of plasma sprayed Al/sub 2/ O/sub 3/-40%TiO/sub 2/ and Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ deposited on casting aluminum alloy(AC4C) were investigated. Specimens were processed for various coating thicknesses. Ball on disk type wear tester was used for wear test. The scratch test on plasma sprayed coating surface showed that critical load to break the coating layer was greater than 40 N. The critical load increase with the increase of coating thickness of specimens. The friction coefficient of Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ coating layer was less than that of Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/-40%TiO/sub 2/ coating layer. The wear resistance of Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ coating layer was greater than that of Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/-40%TiO/sub 2/ coating layer. Microscopic observation of worn surfaces was made by SEM. SEM observation showed that the main mechanism of wear for Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/-40%TiO/sub 2/ coating layer was abrasive wear under 50 N. For the case of Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/-40%TiO/sub 2/ coating layer, as the surface cracks perpendicular to sliding direction propagated, the wear debris was generated in wear track. However, the main mechanism of wear for Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ coating layer was brittle fracture under 150 N.

  • Recently the importance of distribution channel design has been focused on due to a turbulent environment. The channel design strategy involves the choice of an optimal channel arrangement including channel width, channel depth, the types of intermediaries to be used, and the specific responsibilities of each channel member. The purpose of this paper is to investigate changes of distribution intensity in the infant & children's wear brand from 1997 to 1999, when Korea has faced changes before and after IMF intervention that influenced the Korean economy greatly. Thus, this study provides channel managers with some guidelines for establishing and adjusting the infant & children's wear channel strategies. The data is collected by the Korean Fashion Brand Annual published by Apparel News Co., from 1997 to 1999. infant & children's wear brands are selected and analyzed with Pearson correlation. Statistic analysis has shown different results in the type of brands in terms of distribution intensity. The type of brands between infant's wear and those for children differ in price and launching period. In the case of infant's wear brands, the launching period and total sales should be considered in designing channel distributions, while for children's brands total sales are significant. As the price increases, children's wear brands are significantly linked to their distribution intensity only in certain times at the starting point of IMF intervention. IMF intervention do not seem to influence the distribution intensity of infant's wear brands much as it did children's wear brands. It seems that the infant's wear industry is more stable than the children s wear industry. As a result, the marketer who plans distribution intensity for the infant's and children's wear brands should consider total sales, the launching period and the price according to the type of brands he deals with.

  • This paper describes a development of automatic measuring device for cylinder liner wear amount. An operator should regularly measure the wear amount of the cylinder liner to prevent the wear amount of the cylinder liner from exceeding the maximum limit specific to the engine type. In previous methods. an operator entered the inside of the cylinder liner on a ladder and measured the amount of wear using a inside micrometer. Such method is unpleasant in severe environments and full of hazards. In addition, in order to enter the cylinder, the piston head had to be detached. requiring much time and money. In order to solve these problems, a new measuring device that consists of two measuring units and a special install jig is developed. The measuring units are installed through the scavenging air port by the install jig and measures the wear amount during 1 revolution of crankshaft. so detaching of the cylinder head and entering inside the cylinder liner are not required.
