In this study, we examined arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) community structure colonizing field-cultivated ginseng roots according of different ages, such as 1- to 5-year-old plant, collected from Geumsan-gun, Korea. A total of seven AMF species namely, Funnelliformis caledonium, F. moseae, Gigaspora margarita, Paraglomus laccatum, P. occultum, Rhizophagus irregularis, and Scutellospora heterogama were identified from the roots using cloning, PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism and sequence analysis of the large subunit region in rDNA. AMF species diversity in the ginseng roots decreased with the increase in root age because of the decreased species evenness. In addition, the community structures of AMF in the roots became more uniform. These results suggest that the age of ginseng affects mycorrhizal colonization and its community structure.
This survey was carried out in four areas in southern Korea from May 1983 through April 1986. A total of 1, 717 house rats was caught by trapping technique throughout the 4 areas. The total of 1, 535 trombiculid mites (4 genera, 7 species) was found only among Rattus norvegicus. Six species were observed in Seoul and Yangsuri areas, and 5 species in Seongnam area. No trombiculid mites were found in the rats caught in Inchon area. The highest infection rate of trombiculid mites (25%) was recorded in the rats caught in Seongnam area. And Leptotrombidium palpale was abundant species in general (detection rate; 72.8%) In seasonal variation, the hightes number of trombiculid population was observed from October through December in all the areas surveyed, and especially Euschongastia koreaensis apperaed more in autumn and winter than in any other season. The values of specie diversity and evenness of trombiculid mites found in Yangsuri were comparatively higher than those from the other areas.

Marine algal flora and community structures were examined seasonally at three sites around the Shingori Nuclear Power Plant, Korea from February to November 2016. A total of 76 species were identified, including 9 green, 14 brown and 53 red algae. The greatest number of species occurred at Daesongri (51 species) followed by Sinamri (43 species) and at the discharge area (38 species) during the study period. Of the 76 seaweeds, 59 annuals and 17 warm tolerant species were recorded. Annual average biomass in dry weight varied from $168.02g/m^2$ at the discharge area to $222.53g/m^2$ at Sinamri. The coarsely branched form was the dominant functional form of seaweeds at the three sites. Seaweed community structures at the discharge site were distinguishable by decreasing species richness, biomass, species diversity index, richness index, and evenness index. The ratio of warm tolerance species and the dominance index values were remarkably higher at the discharge than those at the other sites.
We chose the Mt. Dalum area (located in Gijang-gun, Busan, Korea) for our survey, particularly The pine wilt disease zone and the non-permanent control area. This study investigates the effect of pine wilt disease on the distribution of beetle species in the process of ecosystem change due to insect control; pine forests treated for pine wilt disease were divided into insect control and non-control sites, respectively. The results of this study are as follows. Twen tyseven species belongs to 12 families were identified from 969 ground beetles collected from this sites. Species richness was the highest in Coleoptera (6 species, 469 individuals). In the control site, 21 species belongs to 10 families were identified from 228 individuals, while 24 species of 11 families from 533 individuals in the non-control area. The highest number of species were noted in June and July from the non- control and control sites, respectively. The highest number of insects in control and non-control sites was observed in July, while the lowest in September. Sipalinus gigas gigas, Spondylis buprestoides, Plesiophthalmus davidis, Calosoma maximowiczi, Damaster jankowskii jankowskii, and Damaster smaragdinus were captured in both study sites. Episomustur ntus and Glischrochilus ipsoides were only captured in the control site, while Macrodorcas rectus rectus and Pheropsophus javanus were only captured in the non-control site. Six beetles and five species (such as Calosoma maximowiczi) were found in the control site and six species (including Damaster smaragdinus) in the non-control site. The species distributions by altitude were 163, 518, and 258 individuals, at 100, 200 and 300 m sites, respectively. The diversity, evenness, and dominance indices in the control area were 0.764, 0.812, and 0.367, respectively. The diversity, evenness, and dominance indices in the non-control area were 0.927, 0.837, and 0.352, respectively. The similarity index between the control and non-control area was 80%.
For conservation of biodiversity, we designate and manage the major areas that are habitats of organisms as ecosystem protected areas. It is necessary to evaluate the biodiversity of protected areas relatively in order to establish strategies to protect and secure the biodiversity of protected areas. In this study, we selected evaluation indicators by which we can compare objectively the biodiversity of protected areas corresponding to forest ecosystem, and applied them to Mt. Jiri and Mt. Bukhan National Parks. We reviewed literatures to select evaluation criteria. Frequently mentioned criteria and the structure of the forest which plays an importantrole of forest biodiversity were selected as the evaluation criteria. As the result, the selected evaluation indicators were 7-species diversity, species richness, evenness, rarity, disturbance species, indigenous species, and forest structure. In Mt. Jiri and Mt. Bukhan National Parks, species diversity were 3.492 and 2.943, species richness were 8.998 and 9.793, evenness were 0.849 and 0.680,rarity were 11.976 and 10.783, and disturbance species index were 0.214 and 0.357 respectively. Both national parks had abundant indigenous species and showed various forest physiognomies and stable 4-layer structure. It was found that crown density was higher in Mt. Jiri. Most indicators were implied high biodiversity in Mt. Jiri and Mt. Bukhan national parks.
The parasitic mites were collected from a total of 2,691 house rats in four areas of Seoul, Seongnam, Incheon and Yangsuri of Korea from January, 1983 to December, 1986, Infestation rates, the species composition of the mites. species diversity, evenness, dominance, similarity of the mites among the areas and monthly abundance were studied as follows: Among twenty-one species of mites identified from two species of house rats in the areas, 12 species belonged to Mesostigmata, 8 species to prostigmata and 1 species to Metastigmata. Out of twenty-one species, ten including Androlaelaps casalis were commonly found only on Rattus norvegicus, however, two including Haemogamsus serdjukovae only on Rattus rattus, and all the trombiculid mites were found in particular on R norvegicus. The highest infestation rates of the mites on the rats ranged from June to August in all the areas throughout the year. The species diversity of the mites was the highest (0.6280) in Yangsuri with the highest evenness value (0.5770) observed in Incheon. The seasonal species diversities in Seoul, Seongnam and Yangsuri were higher in April, October and March respectively than the other time of the year. The highest similarity value was calculated between Yangsuri and Seoul areas, compared with the lowest combination in Seoul and Seongnam areas. The seasonal indices of mites showed that the most abundant number of mites was observed in spring and summer in Seoul and Seongnam, in summer and autumn in Incheon and in the winter season in Yangsuri. The mesostigmatid and metastigmatid mites were collected abundantly in July and September from R. norvegicus and R rattus in Seoul with the highest number of the above mites found from R. norvegicus in June in Seongnam. Particularly in Yangsuri, a large number of the mites were collected all the year round.

This study was conducted to provide basic information for effective management strategies on nature trails in Mt. Jiri national park. Vegetation structure of nature trails in Yupyeong, Jungsanri, Hadong and Baekmudong districts was researched to accomplish the purpose of study. The tree and subtree layer consisted of 16 and 11 species for Yupyeong, 14 and 16 species for Jungsanri, 10 and 13 species for Hadong, and 19 and 10 species for Baekmudong district, respectively. The importance value of Quercu variabilis in the tree layer was highest for Yupyeong, Jungsanri and Baekmudong districts, and that of Pinus densiflora was highest for Hadong district. The herbaceous layer was composed of 70 species for Yupyeong, 53 species for Jungsanri, 65 species for Hadong, 57 species for Baekmudong districts, respectively. The value of species diversity ranged from 0.752 to 1.162, 0.957 to 1.085 and 1.283 to 1.506 at tree, subtree and shrub layer, respectively. Evenness ranged 0.752 to 0.983 at all layers for four nature trails in Mt. Jiri national park.
To obtain the basic information for weed management in polder land, a colligated assessment on weed distribution and it`s plant sociological indices on Gyewha polder land were arranged. At the situation of assessment, the Gyewha polder land was reclaimed with aim with paddy-rice production. As a result of reclamation, the salinity of most soil samples were below 0.3%, and acidity ranged from pH 5.5 to 6.5. Total weed species were counted as much as 17 species (3 gramineae, 7 cyperucese, and 8 broad-leaved species), and a most dominant species, Scirpus maritimus, were succeeded with Monochoria v., Eleocharis a., and Cyperus d., etc. by reclamation. Declining of soil salinity and soil pH, the number of weed species, individuals, biomass, species diversity, evenness, sociability index were increased, but the population particularity was weaken in tendencies. By developing of reclamation, the weed species which is summer annual broad leaf, wind and water disseminating, and tussock formed species are increased instead of salt-resistant, perennial cyperus, and rhizomatous extending species.
We carried out a study for ecological management and ideal vegetation structure selection on the shrine forest of 'Miwhang-sa' considering the species diversity and the vegetation structure analysis associated with global warming. We carried out the analyses of phytosociological vegetation structure, correlation between vegetation units and environmental variables, life form, species diversity, and species evenness. This study identified the vegetation units as 3 communities. The identified vegetation units are as follows: Quercus acuta community(DQ), Quercus serrata-Quercus variabilis community(QQ) and Celtis sinensis community(CS). According to the basis on the environmental variables; Ca, Mg and P, Celtis sinensis community and other communities were classified. Quecus serrata-Quercus variabilis comm. and Quercus acuta comm. were classified, according to the basis on the environmental variables; organic matter(OM), Ni and Zn. Sasa borealis as life form R1-2, dominated the herb layer and will dominate the herb and shrub layers. Species simplification is formed on herb layer and will be formed on shrub layer. The species diversity of Quercus serrata-Quercus variabilis community is higher than the one of Quercus acuta community, and the species diversity of shrine forest around Miwhang-sa was higher than the shrine forest around Nameun-sa where evergreen broad-leaved forests dominate. It is essential that the long-term vegetation management considering the vegetation units by phytosociological analysis, the species simplification problem of low layers by S. borealis and the species diversity and evenness in the shrine forest, Miwhang-sa.
