In this paper, a method to segment each character and extract figure from Korean documents is proposed. At first, each character string is extracted by means of iterative horizontal propagation, shrink algorithm and run-length algorithm. Individual character region is extracted by iterative horizontal and vertical manipulation. Next, characters of right pitch are searched. Each character is segmented by the position information. Overlapped character is segmented on the ground of the width of already extracted character. The rest are extracted as special characters of half pitch. Using 9 data input in the form of 840 X 600 from Korean monthly magazine, experiment was simulated. Extraction rate of character is 100%, and that of individual character is 98%. Judging from these results, efficiency on extracting character region and segmenting individual character is proved.

In this paper, we studies the on-line recognition of handwritten character using WLD(weighted levenshtein distance) algorithm with parallelism. The Hangeul can be separated for unit of phonemes and the alphanumeric can be separated for unit of characters. And, we studies the parallelism and the concurrency of the WLD algorithm for realization of special-purpose processor. By the simulation result for 10, 000 characters in practical sentences, the recognition rate of strokes in obtained 96.57$\%$ and the separation rate for phonemes and characteristics is obtained 95.4$\%$.

In this paper, an integrated document input/output system is developed which constructs the graphic document from a text file, converts the document into encoded facsimile data, and also recognizes printed/handwritten alphanumerics and Korean characters in a facsimile or graphic document. For an output system, we develop the method which generates bit-map patterns from the document consisting of the KSC5601 and ASCII codes. The binary graphic image, if necessary, is encoded by the G3 coding scheme for facsimile transmission. For a user friendly input system for documents consisting of alphanumerics and Korean characters obtained from a facsimile or scanner, we propose a document recognition algirithm utilizing several special features(partial projection, cross point, and distance features) and the membership function of the fuzzy set theory. In summary, we develop an integrated document input/output system and its performance is demonstrated via computer simulation.

The subgenus Idioglochina Alexander, 1921 belongs to the genus Dicranomyia Stephen, 1829 and has a special habitat unlike other congeners. The larval stage inhabits marine algae near the intertidal zones. The most distinctive characters are found in the antennae with inner face of flagellar segments extended to produce a serrate form. A total of 30 species of the subgenus Idioglochina are recorded with the distribution is restricted to the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions. In this study, the subgenus and its species D. (I.) tokara (Nobuchi, 1955) are newly added to the Korean fauna. This species was previously recorded in Japan as an endemic species, but it was collected from Jeju Island. A redescription, period of activity, habitat information, and photographs of diagnostic characters of the species are provided. The female ovipositor is photographed for the first time.

Character recognition has already been studied in a lot of fields. But, if input-characters have noise in practical application system, the ability decreases markedly. Special consideration should be taken into account in the recognition of blurred data. This paper proposes low-quality printed character recognition methods that extracts blurred parts of the character image, deletes them and carry out accurate character recognition.

A keyboard is deveoped which can be used for Korean stenograph. Korean characters are of combinaton type : a Korean character is composed of upper or lower consonants and a vowel. This keyboard can process more than one character at a time by pressing corres- ponding buttons together. The space-bar is divided into 6 buttons for lower consonants. If some reserved words for special stings are entered, the corresponding strings are auto- matically sent to the computers. The keyboard can also be served as a normal one.

To study the clothing names has been one of the research subjects in the history of clothing since the name could be the basic tool to understand the clothing. In the past, the name of clothing were used in Chinese character which is hieroglyphic. Each character of Chinese has special meaning. They had been changed into Korean after Korean characters were invented. During the period when they were changed into Korean, some of them retained the original meaning while others widened the original meaning. Some of them even translated into totally different meaning.

This paper studies the realization of irreducible unitary representations of $GL_2(R)$ and $GL_2(C)$ by Bargmann's classification[1]. Since the representations of general matrix groups can be obtained by the extensions of characters of a special linear group, we shall follow to a large extent the pattern of the results in [5], [6], and [8]. This article is divided into two sections. In the first section we describe the realization of principal series and discrete series and complementary series of $GL_2(R)$. The last section is devoted to the derivation of principal series and complementary series of $GL_2(C).

We propose character recognition system for Gerber files. The Gerber file is the vector-formatted drawing file for PCB manufacturing. To consider the special vector format and rotated characters, we develop segmentation and feature extraction method. The modularized neural network is then applied to the recognition algorithm. Finally, comparative simulation results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.

A detailed evaluation of relative toxicity of fluoride to die 5th instar larvae of PM and NB$_4$D$_2$ races of silkworm and the effects of lethal, sublethal and prevailing levels of fluoride in groundwater on the growth, economic characters and fecundity of the silkworm, Bombyx mori (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) were studied. The feeding of mulberry, Morus alba leaves treated with lethal and sublethal doses of fluoride to PM and NB$_4$D$_2$ races of silkworms from the beginning of the 5th instar to the end of the feeding period resulted in significant reduction in growth, single cocoon weight, single shell weight, silk index, average filament length, and fecundity when compared to controls. These manges were more pronounced on exposure to lethal dose than sublethal dose and in general, the changes induced by fluoride were more striking in NB$_4$D$_2$ than PM, indicating the greater resistance of PM to higher fluoride levels. Groundwater quality in sericulturally important villages of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh States has been studied with special reference to the presence of fluoride. On exposure to dose of prevailing levels in the waters of sericulturally important areas, die changes observed on growth, economic characters and fecundity were slightly lower when compared to controls and the decrease was found to be insignificant (P$\geq$0.05). It was concluded that, though minute dose (4.0 ppm) of fluoride did not have any toxic impact, it is toxic at higher concentrations to silkworms.
