This paper presents an efficient method for generating spatiotemporal images in order to detect leukocyte motion in microvessels. Leveraging the constraint that leukocytes move along the contour line of the blood vessel wall, our proposed method efficiently generates spatiotemporal images for leukocyte motion detection. To that end, translational motion caused by in vivo movement is first removed by a template matching method. Second, the blood vessel region is detected by an automatic threshold selection method in order to binarize temporal variance images. Then, the contour of the blood vessel wall is expressed via B-spline function. Finally, using the detected blood vessel wall's contour as an initial curve, the plasma layer for the most accurate position is determined in order to find the spatial axis via snake, and the spatiotemporal images are generated. Experimental results show that the spatiotemporal images are generated effectively through comparison of each step with three images.
Spatiotemporal data mining represents the confluence of several fields including spatiotemporal databases, machine loaming, statistics, geographic visualization, and information theory. Exploration of spatial data mining and temporal data mining has received much attention independently in knowledge discovery in databases and data mining research community. In this paper, we introduce an algorithm Max_MOP for discovering moving sequences in mobile environment. Max_MOP mines only maximal frequent moving patterns. We exploit the characteristic of the problem domain, which is the spatiotemporal proximity between activities, to partition the spatiotemporal space. The task of finding moving sequences is to consider all temporally ordered combination of associations, which requires an intensive computation. However, exploiting the spatiotemporal proximity characteristic makes this task more cornputationally feasible. Our proposed technique is applicable to location-based services such as traffic service, tourist service, and location-aware advertising service.
In this paper, we argue that new&renewable energy resources are difficult to be managed with GIS technology due to their spatiotemporal features, and suggest that spatiotemporal database and sensor network can be applied to the new&renewable energy management system as advanced technology. To give the motivated issues, we introduce and analyze the concept of the spatiotemporal database and sensor network, and the case studies in each applications.
These were two main purposes of this study. The first was to research the relevance between gross motor function measurement (GMFM) and the spatiotemporal parameters of gait in children with cerebral palsy. The second was to research the relevance between gross motor performance measure (GMPM) and the spatiotemporal gait parameters. Twelve children ($6.0{\pm}1.8$ years) with cerebral palsy participated in this study. GMFM and GMPM were performed and the spatiotemporal parameters of gait were measured by using WalkWay MG-1000. There were no significant correlations between the GMFM score and the stride length, step length, step width, cadence, and velocity (p>.05). The GMPM score also had no significant correlation with the spatiotemporal gait parameter (p>.05).
Most of works have been performed on representation of spatiotemporal objects from various points of view. Most of them represent spatiotemporal objects using approaches from GIS, temporal databases, object-oriented databases or data type. Spatiotemporal objects can be classified as objects whose position and shape changes discretely over time, objects whose position changes continuously and objects whose shape changes continuously as well as position. Previous works on spatiotemporal model have focused on only one of them. In this paper, we propose a spatiotemporal model that can represent three types of objects in Euclidean plan. For this purpose, we represent both discrete and continuous moving objects by defining temporal model extended from valid time and by defining relationship between two consecutive versions of objects. The proposed spatiotemporal object model is based on open GIS specification so that it has compatibility with existing spatial data model.
In general, Independent component analysis (ICA) is a statistical blind source separation technique, used either in spatial or temporal domain. The spatial or temporal ICAs are designed to extract maximally independent sources in respective domains. The underlying sources for spatiotemporal data (sequence of images) can not always be guaranteed to be independent, therefore spatial ICA extracts the maximally independent spatial sources, deteriorating the temporal sources and vice versa. For such data types, spatiotemporal ICA tries to create a balance by simultaneous optimization in both the domains. However, the spatiotemporal ICA suffers the problem of source ambiguity. Recently, constrained ICA (c-ICA) has been proposed which incorporates a priori information to extract the desired source. In this study, we have extended the c-ICA for better analysis of spatiotemporal data. The proposed algorithm, i.e., constrained spatiotemporal ICA (constrained st-ICA), tries to find the desired independent sources in spatial and temporal domains with no source ambiguity. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested against the conventional spatial and temporal ICAs using simulated data. Furthermore, its performance for the real spatiotemporal data, functional magnetic resonance images (fMRI), is compared with the SPM (conventional fMRI data analysis tool). The functional maps obtained with the proposed algorithm reveal more activity as compared to SPM.
Spatiotemporal phenomena are ubiquitous aspects of real world. In the spatial and temporal databases, integrity constraints maintain the semantics of specific application domain and relationship between domains when proceed update in the database. Efficient maintenance of data integrity has become a critical problem, since testing the validity of a large number of constraints in a large database and after each transaction is an expensive task. Especially, in spatiotemporal domain, data is more complex than traditional domains and very active. Additionally, it is not considered that unified frameworks deal with both spatial and temporal properties to handle integrity constraints. Therefore, there need a model to maintain integrity constraints in the unified frameworks and enforcement and management techniques in order to preserve consistence.
Bayesian spatiotemporal analysis is of considerable interest to epidemiological applications because health data is collected over space-time with complicated dependency structures. A basic concept in spatiotemporal modeling is introduced in this paper to analyze space-time disease data. The paper reviews a range of Bayesian spatiotemporal models and analyzes Hepatitis A data in Korea.

This paper proposes an approach to improve the performance of no-reference video quality assessment for sports videos with dynamic motion scenes using an efficient spatiotemporal model. In the proposed method, we divide the video sequences into video blocks and apply a 3D shearlet transform that can efficiently extract primary spatiotemporal features to capture dynamic natural motion scene statistics from the incoming video blocks. The concatenation of a deep residual bidirectional gated recurrent neural network and logistic regression is used to learn the spatiotemporal correlation more robustly and predict the perceptual quality score. In addition, conditional video block-wise constraints are incorporated into the objective function to improve quality estimation performance for the entire video. The experimental results show that the proposed method extracts spatiotemporal motion information more effectively and predicts the video quality with higher accuracy than the conventional no-reference video quality assessment methods.

In this paper we study on an interface connection between spatial operators and temporal operators to support the unified operations for spationtemporal data. The integration development of the spatiotemporal operations will be defined as a common use of spatiotemporal relationship operators by spatiotemporal referencing macros. additionally we propose an integration algorithm of a history operator and temporal relationship operators. Then the proposed system will be implemented on the commercial GIS software and evaluated by examples of spatiotemporal query expressions. Here, our integration of spatial and temporal operators will provide spatiotemporal query expressions with a useful framework.
