  • When we derive multi-scale databases from a source spatial database, thegeometries and topological relations in the source database are transformed according to a predefined set of constraints. This means that the derived databases should be checked to see if the constraints are respected during the construction or updates of databases and to maintain the consistency of multi-scale databases. In this paper, we focus on the topological consistency between the source and derived databases, which is one of the important constraints to respect. In particular, we deal with the method of assessment of topological consistency, when 2-dimensional objects are collapsed to 1-dimensional ones. We introduce eight types of topological relations between 2-dimensional objects and 19 topological ones between 1-dimensional objects and propose four different strategies to convert 2-dimensional topological relations in the source database to 1-dimensional ones objects in the target database. With these strategies, we guarantee the topological consistency between multi-scale databases.

  • In Chilgok, industrial complex and agro-industrial complex has facilitated with the population growth rate of 2.79% since 1995. And the city should be apparently required more additional land for agriculture and industrial complex due to the demands of developments. However, many experts has pointed out that utilization of national and public property might be declined recently because the property management office owns too many unnecessary idle lands. So the city is being faced with the necessity of establishing an efficient system for the management of available lands. Therefore, this study evaluated the economic value of available national and public land in Chilgok city. Rental or sale of economic value by separating the target has been also assessed. As a result, each town has totally different characteristics of available lands and the economic values and the numerical change of economic values can measure when merge lots.

  • This study performed quantitative assessment of the performance of adjustment models by a-priori analysis of the statistics of the surface parameter estimates against modeling factors. Lidar, airborne imagery, and SAR imagery have been used to acquire the earth surface elevation, where the shape properties of the surface need to be determined through neighboring observations around target location. In this study, parameters which are selected to be estimated are elevation, slope, second order coefficient. In this study, several factors which are needed to be specified to compose adjustment models are classified into three types: mathematical functions, kernel sizes, and weighting types. Accordingly, a-priori standard deviations of the parameters are computed for varying adjustment models. Then their corresponding confidence regions for both the standard deviation of the estimate and the estimate itself are calculated in association with probability distributions. Thereafter, the resulting confidence regions are compared to each other against the factors constituting the adjustment models and the quantitative performance of adjustment models are ascertained.

  • This study is the research appling the representative Displacement-Based Design which is the basic concept of Direct Displacement Based Design proposed by Chopra and Goel to original Reinforced Concrete structure and determining the thickness of retrofit Steel Jacket about the Maximum design ground acceleration, and developing the more improved Algorithm as well as program by the Retrofit Design method and Nonlinear analysis by the Performance design method before and after reinforcement appling the determined retrofit thickness. To predict the target displacement of retrofitted columns, a nonlinear analysis model of reinforced concrete columns has been developed to be based on the nonlinear fiber cross-sectional and segmental analysis model, and the seismic displacement level of retrofitted columns is estimated by two procedures, the direct displacement-based design method and the displacement coefficient method. In examples of seismic retrofit design, the current seismic improved design method gives good results in improvements of displacement levels and displacement ductilities of retrofitted columns.

  • This study introduces a technique to merge three different sea surface temperature(SST) data obtained from multi-satellite sensors. NGSST algorithm, the most popular method of related society, estimates a center pixel of target SST using temporal and spatial correlations, excluding SST accuracies according to sensing methods or properties of satellites. We suggest a merging method of SST to consider the accuracy by satellite or sensor with a comparison with NGSST method. The data used for a merged daily SST with spatial resolution of 5 km was applied from three different satellite sensors such as MODIS, AVHRR and AMSR-E from April 2 to 4, 2011 around the southern coast of Korea. Results of the comparisons showed that the new method is higher than the NGSST method and its STDEV represents a comparatively low value. In future we are planning to compare and analyze the datasets during the daytime as well as nighttime over total cycle of the day.

  • As CCTVs are widely utilized in diverse fields, many researchers have continuously studied to improve the surveillance performances of a CCTV system. However, an quantitative evaluation approach about the surveillance performance has rarely been researched. Therefore, we set up the research for suggesting a quantitative evaluation approach to determine the effectiveness of CCTV coverages. We firstly defined the surveillance resolution as that varies according to object's positions and orientations. Based on the definition, we computed surveillance resolution values at all three-dimensional positions with the orientations of interests in the specified space. By comparing these values to the required reasonable resolution, we determined the surveillance performance index indicating how well a CCTV system monitor a target space for specific surveillance objectives. This proposed approach evaluates the surveillance performance of a CCTV system quantitatively, so as examines the CCTV system design before its installation based on precise 3D spatial analysis.

  • The coastline influenced naturally and artificially changes dynamically. While the long-term change is influenced by the rise in the surface of the sea and the changes in water level of the rivers, the short-term change is influenced by the tide, earthquake and storm. Also, man-made thoughtless development such as construction of embankment and reclaimed land not considering erosion and deformation of coast has been causes for breaking functions of coast and damages on natural environment. In order to manage coastal environment and resources effectively, In this study is intended to analyze and predict erosion in coastal environment and changes in sedimentation quantitatively by detecting changes in coastal line from data collection for satellite images and aerial LiDAR data. The coastal line in 2007 and 2012 was extracted by manufacturing Digital Surface Model (DSM) with Aviation LiDAR materials. For the coastal line in 2009 and 2010, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) method was used to extract the KOMPSAT-2 image selected after considering tide level and wave height. The change rate of the coastal line is varied in line with the forms of the observation target but most of topography shows a tendency of being eroded as time goes by. Compared to the relatively monotonous beach of Taean, the gravel and rock has very complex form. Therefore, there are more errors in extraction of coastlines and the combination of transect and shoreline, which affect overall changes. Thus, we think the correction of the anomalies caused by these properties is required in the future research.

  • The design of children's hospitals is highly dependent on color schemes. As a space shared together by both adults and children, the design of children's hospitals require color coordination that takes account of the users' characteristics. Visual perception tracking experiment was conducted on the 2 chosen experimental images with a target group made up of adults and children, the following results were found. First, visual attention characteristics of spatial elements' colors were found. The contrast of colors were discovered to effect attention, especially the information desk region showed highest attention. Pillars are subjected to a higher attention relative to other spatial elements, it is suggested when using accent colors to use it only when it is absolutely necessary in partial areas. In contrast, floor patterns were found to be subjected to very low attention relative to other elements. Second, effects of color contrast on visual attention were uncovered. Although color contrast effects attention for both adults and children, children were found to be more effected by color contrast than adults. Especially, children's tendency to rely on color contrast for visual recognition was higher than adults. Since when using only one type on a wide surface children show higher attention on the < vivid > colors than adults, when planning a color coordination for children using < pale > colors instead of < vivid > ones in background for a large surface is seen as a more desired method to increase attention by putting emphasis on the [sharply contrasting] colors.

  • Analyzing and monitoring environmental contaminants based on geophysical exploration techniques have become important and it is now widely applied to delineate spatial distribution geophysical characteristics in wide area. Among the techniques, induced polarization (IP) method, which measures polarization effects on electrical potential distribution, has drawn much attention as an effective tool for environmental monitoring since IP is sensitive to changes in biochemical reactions. However, various reactions stemming from the presence of multiple contaminants have greatly enhanced heterogeneity of polluted sites to result in highly variable electrical characteristics of the site. Those contaminants influence chemical and physical state of soil and groundwater to alter electrical double layer, which in turn influences polarization of the media. Since biochemical reactions between microbes and contaminants result in various IP effects, IP laboratory experiments were conducted to investigate IP responses of the contaminated soil samples under various conditions. Field IP surveys can delineate the spatial distribution of contamination, while providing additional information about electrical properties of a target medium, together with DC resistivity. Reviewing IP effects of contaminants as well as IP surveys can serve as a good starting point for the application of IP survey in site assessment for environmental remediation.

  • Light field image captured by a microlens array-based camera has many limitations in practical use due to its low spatial resolution and angular resolution. High spatial resolution images can be easily acquired with a single image super-resolution technique that has been studied a lot recently. But there is a problem in that high angular resolution images are distorted in the process of using disparity information inherent among images, and thus it is difficult to obtain a high-quality angular resolution image. In this paper, we propose light field angular super-resolution that extracts an initial feature map using an dilated convolutional neural network in order to effectively extract the view difference information inherent among images and generates target image using a residual neural network. The proposed network showed superior performance in PSNR and subjective image quality compared to existing angular super-resolution networks.
