  • This paper presents a physical database design methodology for spatial access structures using transformation techniques in spatial database systems. Recently, many spatial access structures have been proposed in the literature. However, there has been no effort for their physical database design. We first show that most spatial queries in the original space are transformed into one type of range queries in the transform space, and then propose a method for finding the optimal configuration of spatial access structures by using the relationship between the shapes of query regions, that are correspond to the range queries, and page regions, that are correspond to data pages, in the transform space. For performance evaluation, we perform extensive experiments with the MBR-MLGF, a spatial access structure using transformation techniques, using various types of queries and data distributions. The results indicate that our proposed method builds optimal MBR-MLGF according to the query types. When the interval ratio of a transformed four-dimensional query region is 1 : 16 : 256 : 4096, the performance of the proposed method is enhanced by as much as five times over that of the conventional cyclic splitting method. The result confirms that the proposed physical database design methodology is useful in a practical way.

  • Even though the frequency of constructing spatial structure is increasing currently, the problem is that no efficient medium to provide information of goof quality on spatial structure is existed. The information is available only for some limited number of major construction companies with experiences, not for the academic world, officials. It costs us much time and money gaining the information for spatial structure without integrated media. Thus the purpose of this study is to develop an integrated web database model for spatial structure.

  • The building of spatial database such as digital maps has been extensively achieved as a base of geographic information system. However, in the GIS system built by the organizations including local autonomous entities, there are some problems technically and systematically for a promptly updating of GIS DB. This research is to develop the object-oriented database updating system to efficiently update the spatial data at any time for a small area. It could be managed the history of spatial database such as creation, modification and deletion at a object level using the UFID of spatial data. This system could help to modify or update the changed geographical features in an office or in-situ promptly. Finally, it could be made the efficient updating manner of geographic data and the assurance of newest database.

  • GML (Geography Markup Language) has become the widely adopted standard for transport and storage of geographic information. So, various researches such as modeling, storage, query, and etc have been studied to provide the interoperability of geographic information in web environments. Especially, there are increased needs to store semi-structured data such as GML documents efficiently. Therefore, in this paper, we design and implement a GML repository to store GML documents on the basis of GML schema using spatial database system. GML Schema is converted into directed GML schema graph and the schema mapping technique from directed schema graph to spatial schema is presented. Also, we define the conversion rules on spatial schema to preserve the constraints of GML schema. GML repository using spatial database system is useful to provide the interoperability of geographic information and to store and manage enormous GML documents.

  • This study aimed to construct an integrated database using the same spatio-temporal unit by employing various public-data types with different real-time information provision cycles and spatial units. Towards this end, three temporal interpolation methods (piecewise constant interpolation, linear interpolation, nonlinear interpolation) and a spatial matching method by district boundaries was proposed. The case study revealed that the linear interpolation is an excellent method, and the spatial matching method also showed good results. It is hoped that various prediction models and data analysis methods will be developed in the future using different types of data in the analysis database.

  • Selectivity estimation for spatial query is very important process in finding the most efficient execution plan. Many works have been performed to estimate accurately selectivity. Although they deal with some problems such as false-count, multi-count, they require a large amount of memory to retain accurate selectivity, so they can not get good results in little memory environments such as mobile-based small database. In order to solve this problem, we propose a new technique called MW histogram which is able to compress summary data and get reasonable results. It also has a flexible structure to react dynamic update. The experimental results showed that the MW histogram has lower relative error than MinSkew histogram and gets a good selectivity in little memory.

  • For effective management of information about establishment and repair of road and road facilities, we built GPS-Van mapping system that CCD Cameras, GPS receivers and INS are integrated and using it surveyed test area. Suggested a scheme that possible put acquired data into photo database systematically. Prototype of road facilities management system using the database shows us that extraction of qualitative information and management are possible through relation attribute information. And it raise cognitive faculty of user about objects using field photographs.

  • Selectivity estimation of queries not only provides useful information to the query processing optimization but also may give users with a preview of processing results. In this paper, we investigate the problem of selectivity estimation in the context of a spatial dataset. Although several techniques have been proposed in the literature to estimate spatial query result sizes, most of those techniques still have some drawback in the case that a large amount of memory is required to retain accurate selectivity. To eliminate the drawback of estimation techniques in previous works, we propose a new method called MW Histogram. Our method is based on two techniques: (a) MinSkew partitioning algorithm that processes skewed spatial datasets efficiently (b) Wavelet transformation which compression effect is proven. We evaluate our method via real datasets. With the experimental result, we prove that the MW Histogram has the ability of providing estimates with low relative error and retaining the similar estimates even if memory space is small.

  • We designed and implemented a medical image query system, including a relational database and DBMS (database management system), which can visualize image data and can achieve spatial, attribute, and mixed queries. Image data used in querying can be visualized in slice, MPR(multi-planner reformat), volume rendering, and overlapping on the query system. To reduce spatial cost and processing time in the system. brain images are spatially clustered, by an adaptive Hilbert curve filling, encoded, and stored to its database without loss for spatial query. Because the query is often applied to small image regions of interest(ROI's), the technique provides higher compression rate and less processing time in the cases.

  • Graph databases, which store different types of data and their relationships modeled as a graph, can be effective in managing and analyzing real estate spatial data linked by complex relationships. However, they are not widely used due to the limited spatial functionalities of graph databases. In this study, we propose a uniform grid-based real estate spatial data management approach using a graph database to respond to various real estate-related spatial questions. By analyzing the real estate community to identify relevant data and utilizing national point numbers as unit grids, we construct a graph schema that linking diverse real estate data, and create a test database. After building a test database, we tested basic topological relationships and spatial functions using the Jackpine benchmark, and further conducted query tests based on various scenarios to verify the appropriateness of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method successfully executed 25 out of 29 spatial topological relationships and spatial functions, and achieved about 97% accuracy for the 25 functions and 15 scenarios. The significance of this study lies in proposing an efficient data integration method that can respond to real estate-related spatial questions, considering the limited spatial operation capabilities of graph databases. However, there are limitations such as the creation of incorrect spatial topological relationships due to the use of grid-based indexes and inefficiency of queries due to list comparisons, which need to be improved in follow-up studies.
