Captured human motion data has been widely utilized for understanding the mechanism of human motion and synthesizing the animation of virtual characters. Searching for desired motions from given motion data is an important prerequisite of analyzing and editing those selected motions. This paper presents a new method of content-based motion retrieval without the need of additional metadata such as keywords. While existing search methods have focused on skeletal configurations of body pose or planar trajectories of locomotion, our method receives a three-dimensional trajectory as its input query and retrieves a set of motion intervals in which the trajectories of body parts such as hands, foods, and pelvis are similar to the input trajectory. In order to allow the user to intuitively sketch spatial trajectories, we used the Leap Motion controller that can precisely trace finger movements as the input device for our experiments. We have evaluated the effectiveness of our approach by conducting a user study in which the users search for dozens of pre-selected motions from baseketball motion data including a variety of moves such as dribbling and shooting.

The moors ecosystem is sensitive environment change and weak in artificial interference. These nature property are very important to people. It is necessary to preservation and protection the moors with a countermeasure. We really need to Environment-GIS(E-GIS) using Geographical Information System(GIS) and digital map including range, correct position and attribute data of moors. In this study, we take priority of making a database of moors management. Taking effect an environment assesment, we concentrate on a standard method of digital map production and a preservation of moors in our research using GIS. Especially, we have to preserve our important national heritage using GIS when Environment Assesment is conducting under construction. We suggest to pre-estimated model of hidden moors as analysing terrain, geological feature, a geographical distribution of plants and animals using GIS.

In this paper, we propose Media CIS system architecture which provides geographical information of geo-features in video sequences by using 3D geographical database and GPS-related data resulted from 4S-Van. We introduce a novel interoperable geographical data service concept, so-called, Virtual World Mapping (VWA) that can map 3D graphic world with real-world video to provide geographical information. Our proposed method can easily retrieve geographical information and attributes to reconstruct 3D virtual space according to certain frame in video sequences. Our proposed system architecture also has an advantage that can provide geographical information service with video stream without any image processing procedures. In addition to, describing the details of our components, we present a Media GIS web service system by using GeoVideo Server, which performs VWM technique.

This study attempts to analyze changes in land use patterns in a compound urban and agricultural city Kimje-si, using LANDSAT TM imagery and to forecast future changes accordingly. As a new approach to supervised classification, HSB(Hue, Saturation, Brightness)-transformed images were used to select training zones, and in doing so classification accuracy increased by more than 5 percent. Land use changes were forecasted by using a cellular automaton algorithm developed by applying Markov Chain techniques, and by taking into account classification results and GIS data, such as population of the pertinent region by area, DEMs, road networks, water systems. Upon comparing the results of the forecast of the land use changes, it appears that geographical features had the greatest influence on the changes. Moreover, a forecast of post-2030 land use change patterns demonstrates that 21.67 percent of mountain lands in Kimje-si is likely to be farmland, and 13.11 percent is likely to become city areas. The major changes are likely to occur in small mountain lands located in the heart of the city. Based on the study result, it seems certain that forecasting future land use changes can help plan land use in a compound urban and agricultural city to procure food resources.

Geo-features play a key role in object-oriented or feature-based geo-processing system. So the strategy for how-to-model and how-to-manage the geo-features builds the main architecture of the entire system and also supports the efficiency and functionality of the system. Unlike the conventional 2D geo-processing system, geo-features in 3D GIS have lots to be considered to model regarding the efficient manipulation and analysis and visualization. When the system is running on the Web, it should also be considered that how to leverage the level of detail and the level of automation of modeling in addition to the support for client side data interoperability. We built a set of 3D geo-features, and each geo-feature contains a set of aspatial data and 3D geo-primitives. The 3D geo-primitives contain the fundamental modeling data such as the height of building and the burial depth of gas pipeline. We separated the additional modeling data on the geometry and appearance of the model from the fundamental modeling data to make the table in database more concise and to allow the users more freedom to represent the geo-object. To get the users to build and exchange their own data, we devised a fie format called VGFF 2.0 which stands for Virtual GIS File Format. It is to describe the three dimensional geo-information in XML(extensible Markup Language). The DTD(Document Type Definition) of VGFF 2.0 is parsed using the DOM(Document Object Model). We also developed the authoring tools for users can make their own 3D geo-features and model and save the data to VGFF 2.0 format. We are now expecting the VGFF 2.0 evolve to the 3D version of SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) especially for 3D GIS on the Web.
The tendency of having fewer or no children and increasing number of single household will make the protection of the elderly with geriatric disease even harder in the future. Nursing home can provide long-term care for those who can-not be cared by the family. Korean government has been changing welfare policy for the elderly to cope with the changing needs of them regarding nursing home and geriatric disease. Researchers from various field also showed great interest in nursing home. The purpose of this study is to analyze the number and contents of theses and papers regard-ing nursing home in the 12 journals, to find out overall the research streaming of the theme, method, subject, and district of the papers in the journals. Data were collected by using keyword through library database. 246 thesis and 116 papers published from 1990 to 2006 were analyzed in 7 categories, and 66 papers in the journals were used on the content analysis for lading out research streaming. As results, research streaming according to 5 periods were identified. The most frequent subjects of theses regarding nursing home are nursing home systems and policies. Otherwise, the various subjects of papers in the journals have been deal with, especially plans of nursing home and spacial behavior of the elderly and staffs' satisfaction. In the future, the research subjects related to the nursing home should deal with total space plan as living environment for the elderly and work environment for the staffs according to privacy, spatial use and behavior, culture and lifestyle in Korea, and so on.

The purpose of this paper is to implement a GIS and expert system based integrated computing environment for urban facility management, especially with an emphasis on transportation facilities. GIS has been utilized for constructing and managing the database of various transportation facilities, while expert system for executing human expert's role of making priorities, budgeting, and other functions associated with facility management Focusing on roadway sign system, the integrated system proposes new concept of managing sign facilities which leads to the birth of effective decision support system that may be used in local government like Seoul. The proposed concept and system, if supplemented with more functions required by local governments, can be a low cost solution for such facility management tasks. Son discussion and future research agenda have also been addressed.
This paper describes a novel and efficient algorithm, which extracts focused objects from still images with low depth-of-field (DOF). The algorithm unfolds into four modules. In the first module, a HOS map, in which the spatial distribution of the high-frequency components is represented, is obtained from an input low DOF image [1]. The second module finds OOI candidate by using characteristics of the HOS. Since it is possible to contain some holes in the region, the third module detects and fills them. In order to obtain an OOI, the last module gets rid of background pixels in the OOI candidate. The experimental results show that the proposed method is highly useful in various applications, such as image indexing for content-based retrieval from huge amounts of image database, image analysis for digital cameras, and video analysis for virtual reality, immersive video system, photo-realistic video scene generation and video indexing system.
Face detection using the LBP based feature descriptor has issues in that it can not represent spatial information between facial shape and facial components such as eyes, nose and mouth. To address these issues, in previous research, a facial image was divided into a number of square sub-regions. However, since the sub-regions are divided into different numbers and sizes, the division criteria of the sub-region suitable for the database used in the experiment is ambiguous, the dimension of the LBP histogram increases in proportion to the number of sub-regions and as the number of sub-regions increases, the sensitivity to facial orientation rotation increases significantly. In this paper, we present a novel facial region segmentation method that can solve in-plane rotation issues associated with LBP based feature descriptors and the number of dimensions of feature descriptors. As a result, the proposed method showed detection accuracy of 99.0278% from a single facial image rotated in orientation.

Recently, slope failures are disastrous when they occur in mountainous area adjoining highways. The accidents associated with Slope failures have increased due to rapid urbanization of mountainous area. Therefore, the inspection of slope is conducted to maintain road safety as well as road function. In this study, we apply to the remedy which is comparing existent description to advanced technology using GIS. we utilize a 3D scanner, one of the advanced method, to generate precise and complete road slope model from expert point of view. In result, we are transferred practical data from external slope stability to hazard slope information. We suggest not only the database but also the method of road risk evaluation based on GIS.
