  • We proposed a three-dimensional holographic display technique without twin image noise by converting a complex hologram to an off-axis hologram. To implement the proposed technique we record the complex hologram of a three dimensional object that is composed of two slides located with different depth locations. We added spatial carrier to the complex hologram and after that, extract the real part of the spatial-carrier-added hologram. This converts the complex hologram to an off-axis hologram. We also reconstruct the off-axis hologram using a spatial light modulator for three dimensional display.

  • By controlling the pixel of a LCD spatial light modulator electronically, we made a real-time moving window passing through the light on a LCD spatial light modulator. By using this LCD moving window, we suggested an angular multiplexed holographic memory system and in case of windows of 10$\times$10 pixels and 2$\times$2 pixels the total numbers of address are 1,536 and 38,400, respectively. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method, we recorded and reconstructed 30 images by 30 input addresses.

• In this paper, a new high resolution XGA-SLM is implemented through modification of a commercial TFT-LCD beam projector and its optical modulation characteristics as a spatial light modulator(SLM) is also analyzed. First, the optics module, projection lamp and fans are removed from a commercial beam projector and instead some electric circuits to compensate their removal are manufactured and then, by inserting them into the beam projector, a new XGA-SLM is finally implemented. Second, from some optical experimental results, this TFT-SLM is found to have a good optical linearity in amplitude and phase modulation characteristics as a function of the input gray levels. Especially, through implementation of a binary phase-type correlator such as BPEJTC by using the suggested TFT-LCD panel, the implemented SLM is proposed as a new relatively low-cost and high resolution SLM for optical information processing.

  • We propose a new method for improving the phase contrast of a multiphase digital holographic microscope using a spatial light modulator (SLM). Using the SLM as the annulus, our method improves the light contrast of the object edge to achieve higher accuracy. We demonstrate a digital holographic microscopy technique that provides a 30% improvement in the phase contrast compared to conventional microscopy, which utilizes a mechanical annulus. The phase-contrast improvement allows the 3D reconstructed hologram to be determined more precisely.

  • Performance evaluation of inexpensive LCTV to function as a two-dimensional spatial light modulator is performed. Correction of the phase distortion of the device is performed using the substrate of hologram plate and index matching oil. A new method for eliminating electrode grid pattern that incorporates phase conjugation in a BaTiO3 crystal is proposed and experimented.

  • The focus and tracking servo system has been designed and proposed for the holographic memory of one dimensional spatial light modulator(SLM). The general servo method of conventional ODD system was based and modified for new holographic memory. The pre-grooved disc pattern and special dichroic coating were also included for new design in this research and the final separated optics are expected to be applied to the future general holographic memory as well as the one dimensional SLM holographic memory.

  • A Spatial light modulator (SLM) is a real-time programmable device having the modulation function of the amplitude, phase or polarization of an optical wavefront as a function of position via electrical or optical control signals. Various types of reusable SLMs with two-dimensional pixel arrays are centrally important devices in volumetric recording, data processing, pattern recognition, optical computer and other optical system.

  • We demonstrated a polarization dependent type 2$\times$2 optical switch, using a binary reflection type SLM. Reflection type FLC was used as a half wave retardation plate. Two inputs were controlled by each SLM for the desired output direction. In conclusion, in the "1" state the average optical loss was 6.6 ㏈, and in the "0" state the average optical loss was 14.6 ㏈, and measured the switching speed as 75 $mutextrm{s}$. By using this method, a polarization dependent type 2$\times$2 optical switch can be demonstrated and the possibility of a 4-port WDM optical switch also verified.
