  • In this study, we proposed the social map system prototype for intelligent crime prevention. For developing the social map system prototype, functional requirements were derived through the analysis of related cases and preceding studies. Derived requirements are providing a variety of map-based safety information, using crowdsourcing data such as SNS, connecting to intelligent CCTV. To satisfy these requirements, the prototype is developed with four main menus: the integrated search menu including social media data, the safety map menu providing a variety of safety and danger information, the community map menu to collect safety and danger information from users, and the CCTV menu providing the link to intelligent CCTV. The social map for intelligent crime prevention in this study is expected to greatly enhance the safety of local community with the provision of prompt response to risk information, safe route, etc. through actual service and user participation.

  • Recently, spatial information has been applied to various fields and its usability is increasing day by day. In particular, in the field of civil engineering and construction, BIM based on spatial information is being applied to all construction industries and related research has been conducted. BIM is a technology that utilizes spatial information from the design phase and aids in the construction and maintenance of buildings, including the management of their attributes. However, to apply BIM technology to existing buildings, it takes a lot of time and money to produce models based on design drawings along with current surveying. In this study, quantitative and qualitative analysis was conducted to determine the applicability of the acquired data and the applicability of BIM by generating data and analyzing the accuracy using UAV images and ground lidar, which are representative spatial information acquisition methods. Quantitative analysis revealed that TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanner) showed reliable accuracy in both planar and elevation measurements, whereas unmanned aerial images exhibited lower accuracy in elevation measurements, resulting in reduced reliability. Qualitative analysis indicated that neither TLS nor unmanned aerial images alone provided perfect completeness. However, the combination of both spatial information sources, tailored to specific needs, resulted in the most comprehensive completeness. Therefore, it is concluded that the appropriate utilization of spatial information acquired through unmanned aerial images and TLS holds the potential for application in the fields of BIM and reverse engineering.

  • With the drastic growth of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, global energy consumption is exponentially increased by mobile communications. The huge energy consumption and increased environmental awareness have triggered great interests on the research of dynamic distribution of cell user and traffic, and then designing the energy efficient cellular network. In this paper, we explore the temporal and spatial characteristics of human mobility and traffic distribution using real data set. The analysis results of cell traffic illustrate the tidal effect in temporal and spatial dimensions and obvious periodic characteristics which can be used to design Base Station (BS) dynamic with sleeping or shut-down strategy. At the same time, we designed a new Cell Zooming and BS cooperation mode. Through simulation experiments, we found that running in this mode can save about 35% of energy consumption and guarantee the required quality of service.

On the other hand, a market research firm expected that world commercial remote sensing imagery, GIS software, Data, and value-added services will generate 8.3 billion dollar in 2007. It has been widely believed that geo-spatial information and service market is growing rapidly and has a huge potential, but it is not clearly understood where it is now and will be heading in the future. Also, it could be a significant question to answer where the industry in Korea fits the best in the world business trends and where it should be strategically heading to take a large market share. Furthermore, if it could be worth being considered as a Korean strategic industry for the future. Instead of pursuing direct answers to the questions, the author will start reviewing general business practices, major business transactions such as merging and acquisitions (M&A's) and initial public offerings (IPO's), and research on market capitalization and revenue of major companies. Throughout the study, a list of common grounds in the market was uncovered and realized as follows: (1) value-added data matters in geo-spatial information and service market; (2) private sector grows faster; (3) characteristics of multi-national industry; and (4) Dependency on major industry. Based on the findings, the author presents a list of recommendations as conclusions.

  • In this study, a GIS-based park safety assessment index was developed to enable objective park vulnerability assessment through data-based GIS analysis, a safety assessment was conducted by selecting a target site where various parks are operated and applying the park safety assessment index. In addition, a facility management system was developed for efficient management of the park safety assessment to update the park safety and provide a foothold for indirect PPGIS. In the case of the assessment index of the safety rating of the park, it was possible to conclude that the accurate quantitative performance was given to the calculation of the safety grade of the park based on the fact that the facilities are different depending on the environment and the size of the park. In addition, the marking the safety grade of parks, as well as the function to show the safety facilities of parks, a common living area for citizens, the management system is expected to have an impact on promoting the use of parks. In the future, in functions such as reporting of facility failures and verifying civil information are implemented by applying civic group participation programs and crowd-sourcing technologies, it is believed that all facilities as well as parks managed by the local government can be managed more efficiently.

  • This paper, at first, intends to develop a conceptual model of spatial information eco-system based on the related literature reviews. The basic requirements in constructing the model are also specified. Next, the functional roles and interrelationships among the actors constituting the eco-system are analyzed to investigate the major reasons of inefficient and unsmooth flows of value-added process of Korean spatial information industry. Especially, the Korea Cadastral Survery Corp.(KCSC), which has dual organizational characteristics of public and private entity, is analyzed to be positioned as the most dominant actors in the eco-system. However, the KCSC needs to be changed and challenged to re-establish the missions and institutional roles for upcoming network societies. Here, we proposed 4 future-oriented development strategies and action plans to promote the Korean spatial information industry and to activate the eco-system.

  • With the rapid development of information technology, it is now possible to analyze the spatial patterns of cultivated land and its evolution by combining GIS, geostatistical analysis models and spatiotemporal big data for the dynamic monitoring and management of cultivated land resources. The spatial pattern of cultivated land and its evolutionary patterns in Luoyang City, China from 2009 to 2019 were analyzed using spatial autocorrelation and spatial autoregressive models on the basis of GIS technology. It was found that: (1) the area of cultivated land in Luoyang decreased then increased between 2009 and 2019, with an overall increase of 0.43% in 2019 compared to 2009, with cultivated land being dominant in the overall landscape of Luoyang; (2) cultivated land holdings in Luoyang are highly spatially autocorrelated, with the 'high-high'-type area being concentrated in the border area directly north and northeast of Luoyang, while the 'low-low'-type area is concentrated in the south and in the municipal area of Luoyang, and being heavily influenced by topography and urbanization. The expansion determined during the study period mainly took place in the Luoyang City, with most of it being transferred from the 'high-low'-type area; (3) elevation, slope and industrial output values from analysis of the bivariate spatial autocorrelation and spatial autoregressive models of the drivers all had significant effects on the amount of cultivated land holdings, with elevation having a positive effect, and slope and industrial output having a negative effect.

  • Accurately simulating the wind field of large-scale region, for instant urban areas, the locations of large span bridges, wind farms and so on, is very difficult, due to the complicated terrains or land surfaces. Currently, the regional wind field can be simulated through the combination of observation data and numerical model using observation-nudging in the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF). However, the main drawback of original observation-nudging method in WRF is the effects of observation on the surrounding field is fully mathematical express in terms of temporal and spatial, and it ignores the effects of terrain, wind direction and atmospheric circulation, while these are physically unreasonable for the turbulence. For these reasons, a spatial correlation-based observation-nudging method, which can take account the influence of complicated terrain, is proposed in the paper. The validation and comparation results show that proposed method can obtain more reasonable and accurate result than original observation-nudging method. Finally, the discussion of wind field along bridge span obtained from the simulation with spatial correlation-based observation-nudging method was carried out.

  • Various studies and business investments have been performed on UAV in the field of spatial information industry, and it is judged that this industry has being evolved into an expansion stage as a legalization progresses. In addition, public institutions such as Korea Land and Geospatial Information Corporation, Korea Expressway Corporation, and Korea Land and Housing Corporation which have relatively much utilized spatial information work have entered into the stage of settling with active introduction for reasons of work efficiency and business management. However, surveying drones are still classified as expensive equipment, which is a burden on general business application and technology popularization. Moreover, the stabilization of reliability of various location information acquired from UAV is a part of ongoing research and supplementation. Therefore, in this study, to use image information acquired from low-cost UAV as reliable spatial information data, the flight altitude was changed and compared with the result of double transverse flight with conventional photographing technique. As a result, there was no change in the result value at low altitude, but the result showed more than 30% accuracy and accuracy improvement for the X, Y value at the altitude of 130m or higher than the conventional method.
