  • In this paper, we deal with a method of efficiently processing continuous queries in a data stream environment. We classify previous query processing methods into two dual categories - data-initiative and query-initiative - depending on whether query processing is initiated by selecting a data element or a query. This classification stems from the fact that data and queries have been treated asymmetrically. For processing continuous queries, only data-initiative methods have traditionally been employed, and thus, the performance gain that could be obtained by query-initiative methods has been overlooked. To solve this problem, we focus on an observation that data and queries can be treated symmetrically. In this paper, we propose the duality model of data and queries and, based on this model, present a new viewpoint of transforming the continuous query processing problem to a multi-dimensional spatial join problem. We also present a continuous query processing algorithm based on spatial join, named Spatial Join CQ. Spatial Join CQ processes continuous queries by finding the pairs of overlapping regions from a set of data elements and a set of queries defined as regions in the multi-dimensional space. The algorithm achieves the effects of both of the two dual methods by using the spatial join, which is a symmetric operation. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms earlier methods by up to 36 times for simple selection continuous queries and by up to 7 times for sliding window join continuous queries.

  • Recently, GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) has been improved rapidly on the need of speed for gaming. As a result, GPU contains multiple ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) for parallel processing of a lot of graphics data, such as transform, ray tracing, etc. Therefore, this paper proposed a technique for parallel processing of spatial data using GPU. Spatial data consists of multiple coordinates, and each coordinate contains value of x and y axis. To display spatial data graphics operations have to be processed to large amount of coordinates. Because the graphics operation is identical and coordinates are multiple data, SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) parallel processing of GPU can be used for processing of spatial data to improve performance. This paper implemented SIMD parallel processing of spatial data using two kinds of SDK (Software Development Kit). CUDA and ATI Stream are used for NVIDIA and ATI GPU respectively. Experiments that measure time of calculation for graphics operations are carried out to observe enhancement of performance. Experimental result is reported that proposed method can enhance performance up to 1,162% for graphics operations. The proposed method that uses parallel processing with GPU for spatial data can be generally used to enhance performance for applications which deal with large amount of spatial data.

  • The purpose of this study is to quantitatively analyze the effects of a restoration project on the decrease in the temperature in the surrounding areas. The thermal environment characteristics of the investigation area were analyzed using the meteorological data from the Busanjin Automatic Weather System which is closest to the target area. The terrain data of the modeling domain was constructed using a digital map and the urban spatial information data, and the numerical simulation of the meteorological changes before and after the restoration of the stream was performed using the Envi-met model. The average temperature of the target area in 2016 was $15.2^{\circ}C$ and was higher than that of the suburbs. The monthly mean temperature difference was the highest at $1.1^{\circ}C$ in November and the lowest in June, indicating that the temperatures in the urban areas were high in spring and winter. From the Envi-met modeling results, reductions in temperature due to stream restoration were up to $1.7^{\circ}C$ in winter, and decreased to $3.5^{\circ}C$ in summer. The effect of temperature reduction was seen in the entire region where streams are being restored.

  • The main objective of this paper is to classify properties of the locational environment for each debris type by calculating likelihood ratio based on the correlation between the distributions for each type of debris landform. A total of 8 thematic maps, like as elevation, slope, aspect, curvature, topographic wetness index (TWI), soil drainage, geology, and landcover including with GIS spatial information generally used in this type of debris landform analysis. The results of this study showed that the block stream had a high likelihood ratio compared to talus in areas with relatively high elevation; and concerning slope, the block stream had a high likelihood ratio in a relatively low region than talus. Concerning aspect, a clear correlation could not be analyzed for each debristype, and concerning curvature, the block stream displayed a developed slope on the more concave valley than the talus. Analysis concerning TWI, the block stream displayed a higher likelihood ratio in wider sections than talus, and concerning soil drainage, the talus and block stream both displayed a high likelihood ratio in regions with well-drained soil. The talus displayed a high likelihood ratio in the order of metamorphic rocks, sedimentary rocks, and granite, while the block stream displayed a high likelihood ratio in the order of volcanic rocks, granite, and sedimentary rocks. In addition, concerning landcover, the likelihood ratio had the most concentrated distributed compared to natural bare land only concerning talus. Based on the likelihood ratio result, it can be used as basic data for extracting the possible areas of distribution for each debris type through the GIS spatial integration method.

  • In this study, some of the model verification results of STREAM (Spatio-Temporal River-basin Ecohydrology Analysis Model), a newly-developed hybrid watershed model, are presented for the runoff processes of nonpoint source pollution. For verification study of STREAM, the model was applied to a test watershed and a sensitivity analysis was also carried out for selected parameters. STREAM was applied to the Mankyung River Watershed to review the applicability of the model in the course of model calibration and validation against the stream flow discharge, suspended sediment discharge and some water quality items (TOC, TN, TP) measured at the watershed outlet. The model setup, simulation and data I/O modules worked as designed and both of the calibration and validation results showed good agreement between the simulated and the measured data sets: NSE over 0.7 and $R^2$ greater than 0.8. The simulation results also include the spatial distribution of runoff processes and watershed mass balance at the watershed scale. Additionally, the irrigation process of the model was examined in detail at reservoirs and paddy fields.

  • This study, from conditions connected with water in Feng-Shui theory, is to find out their influence of the location and spatial composition of the studied villages, Hawei and Yangdong, and then to offer the result as basic data for the study of the traditional village in the future. The study method is to analyze topography by the map and present state of villages studied, to interprete them on the base of location, spatial composition, and chi, and then to analyze the relevancy of Feng-Shui theory of them. The result of the study are to be following: Houses of Hawei village are situated on the inside of a winding stream of waterway, while those of Yang dong village are located on the outside of a winding stream of waterway. In case of Hawei village, showed the close interrelation between the distribution of present houses and running speed of waterway by positin. Judging from the location, orientation and surroundings of mountains and waterway, topographical composition of Hawei village is Duk su guk, but that of Yang dong village is Juang feng guk. Comparing with Yang dong and Hawei in location and spatial composition, the conditions of waterway as being locational factor, for example, the geomancy of situation, orientation, and phisical phenomena(lenth, width, and depth of waterway in front of village) of waterway, are more importantly considered in Hawei village being situated on even land than in Yang dong located at the foot of the mountain.

  • This paper proposes an on-line mining algorithm of moving trajectory patterns in RFID data streams considering changing characteristics over time and constraints of single-pass data scan. Since RFID, sensor, and mobile network technology have been rapidly developed, many researchers have been recently focused on the study of real-time data gathering from real-world and mining the useful patterns from them. Previous researches for sequential patterns or moving trajectory patterns based on stream data have an extremely time-consum ing problem because of multi-pass database scan and tree traversal, and they also did not consider the time-changing characteristics of stream data. The proposed method preserves the sequential strength of 2-lengths frequent patterns in binary relationship table using the time-evolving graph to exactly reflect changes of RFID data stream from time to time. In addition, in order to solve the problem of the repetitive data scans, the proposed algorithm infers candidate k-lengths moving trajectory patterns beforehand at a time point t, and then extracts the patterns after screening the candidate patterns by only one-pass at a time point t+1. Through the experiment, the proposed method shows the superior performance in respect of time and space complexity than the Apriori-like method according as the reduction ratio of candidate sets is about 7 percent.

  • Spatio-temporal join operators are essential to the management of spatio-temporal data such as moving objects. For example, the join operators are parts of processing to analyze movement of objects and search similar patterns of moving objects. Various studies on spatio-temporal join queries in outdoor space have been done. Recently with advance of indoor positioning techniques, location based services are required in indoor space as well as outdoor space. Nevertheless there is no one about processing of spatio-temporal join query in indoor space. In this paper, we introduce continuous spatio-temporal self-join queries in indoor space and propose a method of processing of the join queries over stream data of moving objects. The continuous spatio-temporal self-join query is to update the joined result set satisfying spatio-temporal predicates continuously. We assume that positions of moving objects are represented by symbols such as a room or corridor. This paper proposes a data structure, called Candidate Pairs Buffer, to filter and maintain massive stream data efficiently and we also investigate performance of proposed method in experimental study.

  • Shuttle Radar Topography Mission Digital Elevation Model (SRTM DEM) offers opportunities to make advances in many research areas including hydrology by providing near-global scale elevation measurements at a uniform resolution. Its wide coverage and complimentary online access especially benefits researchers requiring topographic information of hard-to-access areas. However, SRTM DEM also contains inherent errors, which are subject to propagation with its manipulation into analysis outputs. Sensitivity of hydrologic analysis to the errors has not been fully understood yet. This study investigated their impact on estimation of hydrologic derivatives such as slope, stream network, and watershed boundary using Monte Carlo simulation and spatial moving average techniques. Different amount of the errors and their spatial auto-correlation structure were considered in the study. Two sub-watersheds of Geum and Deadong River areas located in South and North Korea, respectively, were selected as the study areas. The results demonstrated that the spatial presentations of stream networks and watershed boundaries and their length and area estimations could be greatly affected by the SRTM DEM errors, in particular relatively flat areas. In the Deadong River area, artifacts of the SRTM DEM created sinks even after the filling process and then closed drainage basin and short stream lines, which are not the case in the reality. These findings provided an evidence that SRTM DEM alone may not enough to accurately figure out the hydrologic feature of a watershed, suggesting need of local knowledge and complementary data.

  • Watershed boundary and stream network can be extracted from DEM(Digital Elevation Model) using GIS software such as ARC/INFO or ArcView Spatial Analyst. However, there exist many errors in the generated watershed boundary and stream network just by operating sink removal function of the present software. This paper present the error reducing method to delineate watershed boundary and generate stream network especially in plane areas by using stream burning techniques known as Fillburn and Agree bum. These preprocessing techniques of DEM dramatically decreased the errors comparing with the results by no-bum DEM.
