위성 운송용 컨테이너의 단열 설계와 열 유동 해석에 관한 연구 (Study on Thermal Insulation Design and Heat Flow Analysis of Spacecraft Shipping Container)

  • 본 논문은 위성을 발사장까지 안전하게 운반하기 위해, 열이나 외부 온도가 심하게 변화하는 조건에서 위성 컨테이너 내부 온도를 일정하게 유지할 수 있도록 컨테이너 벽면 및 경계층 단열 설계 방법을 제시하고 위성 운반용 컨테이너 외부 환경에 대한 열 유동 해석 및 위성 내부 열 전달 해석을 통해 위성 컨테이너 내부 온도가 일정하게 유지되는지 분석하였다. 컨테이너 내부 유동 해석을 통해 컨테이너 내 위성 주변의 유동이 원활 한지 유동 분포를 확인하였으며, 보조 팬 및 공조시스템과 특별한 그릴 가이드 구조 설계 안을 제시하고자 한다.

  • Detailed 3 dimensional structure of Asian dust plume has been analyzed from the retrieved aerosol data from two different satellites which are the Korea's $1^{st}$ geostationary satellite, namely the Communication, Ocean, Meteorological Satellite (COMS) spacecraft launched in 2010, and the NASA's Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO). COMS spacecraft provides the first time resolved aerial aerosol maps by the systematically well-calibrated multispectral measurements from the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) instrument. GOCI data are used here to evaluate intensity, spatial distribution, and long-range transport of Asian dust plume during 1~2 May 2011. We found that the strong Asian dust plume showing AOT of 2~5 was lofted to the altitude around 2~4 km above the Earth's surface and transported over Yellow Sea with a speed of about 25 km/hr. The CALIPSO extinction coefficient and particulate depolarization ratio (PDR) profiles confirmed that nonspherical dust particles were enriched in the dust plume. This study is a first example of quantitative integration of GOCI and CALIOP measurements for clarifying the overall structure of an Asian dust event.

Comparison between observation and theory for the stand-off distance ratios of CMEs and their associated ICMEs

  • We examine whether the observational stand-off distance ratios of CMEs and their associated ICMEs could be explained by theoretical model or not. For this, we select 16 CME-ICME pairs from September 2009 to October 2012 with the following conditions: (1) limb CMEs by SOHO and their associated ICMEs by twin STEREO spacecraft and vice versa when both spacecraft were roughly in quadrature; (2) the faint structure ahead of a limb CME is well identified; and (3) its associated ICME clearly has a sheath structure. We determine the observational stand-off distance ratios of the CMEs by using brightness profiles from LASCO-C2 (or SECCHI-COR2) observations and those of the ICMEs by solar wind data from STEREO-IMPACT/PLASTIC (or OMNI database) observations. We also determine the theoretical stand-off distance ratios of the CME-ICME pairs using semi-empirical relationship based on the bow shock theory. We find the following results. (1) Observational CME stand-off distance ratio decreases with increasing Mach number at the Mach numbers between 2 and 6. This tendency is consistent with the results from the semi-empirical relationship. (2) The observational stand-off distance ratios of several ICMEs can be explained by the relationship.

Coupled hydroelastic vibrations of a liquid on flexible space structures under zero-gravity - Part I. Mechanical model

  • The coupled free vibration of flexible structures and on-board liquid in zero gravity space was analyzed, considering the spacecraft main body as a rigid mass, the flexible appendages as two elastic beams, and the on-board liquid as a "spring-mass" system. Using the Lagrangians of a rigid mass (spacecraft main body), "spring-mass" (liquid), and two beams (flexible appendages), as well as assuming symmetric motion of the system, we obtained the frequency equations of the coupled system by applying Rayleigh-Ritz method. Solving these frequency equations, which are governed by three system parameters, as an eigenvalue problem, we obtained the coupled natural frequencies and vibration modes. We define the parameter for evaluating the magnitudes of coupled motions of the added mass (liquid) and beam (appendages). It was found that when varying one system parameter, the frequency curves veer, vibration modes exchange, and the significant coupling occurs not in the region closest to the two frequency curves but in the two regions separate from that region.

  • A method to determine normal vectors for boundaries of plasmas with a series of data acquired from a single spacecraft is investigated. The determination of the normal vector is possible through a set of Rankine-Hugoniot(R-H) relations that are conser-vation relations of plasmas across a boundary. It is assumed that the boundary is planar and that the structure of the boundary is not varing in the rest frame of plasmas. The present method utilizes a complete set of R-H relations and provieds self-consistent predictions of the plasma densities, bulk velocities, and temperatures a s well as mag-netic fields. It is expected that the present method provides a more accurate normal vector than the previous methods which employ only subsets of the available R-H relations.

  • Space explorations by spacecraft have detected the solar wind and the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF), whose existences had been suggested to explain the narrow comet plasma tail formation before the space age. Thereafter, a global magnetic structure seperating the opposite polarity regions of IMF in the heliosphere was discovered (Wilcox and Ness, 1965). It is called helispheric current sheet (HCS). Comets have been proved as the useful heliospheric probes. Recently, another capability of comet as a probe of HCS was suggested by Yi (1994). In the process of comet plasma tail disconnection events (EDs) showing the ray folding and main tail severance between the folding rays (Brandt, 1982), the folding rays preceding DE might be the visualization of HCS draped around comet, In order to test this new idea, the association of comet Halley 16 DEs with comet crossings of HCS confirmed by spacecraft observations at the time of comet Halley apparition 1985~1986 was investigated.

  • The bending vibration and thermal flutter instability of spacecraft booms modeled as circular thin-walled beams of closed cross-section and subjected to thermal radiation loading is investigated in this paper. Thermally induced vibration response characteristics of a composite thin walled beam exhibiting the circumferantially uniform system(CUS) configuration are exploited in connection with the structural flapwise bending-lagwise bending coupling resulting from directional properties of fiber reinforced composite materials and from ply stacking sequence. The numerical simulations display deflection time-history as a function of the ply-angle of fibers of the composite materials, damping factor, incident angle of solar heat flux, as well as the boundary of the thermal flutter instability domain. The adaptive control are provided by a system of piezoelectric devices whose sensing and actuating functions are combined and that an bonded or embedded into the host structure.

  • The fairing of the launch vehicles has a role of protecting the spacecraft from outer thermal, acoustical, and mechanical loads during flight. Among them, the thermal load is analyzed in the present study. The ascent thermal analyses include aerodynamic heating rate on every point of the fairing, heat transfer through the fairing and spacecraft, and the final temperature during ascent flight phase. A design code based on theoretical/experimental database is applied to calculate the aerodynamic heating rate, and a thermal math program, SINDA/Fluint, is considered for conductive heat transfer of the fairing. The results show that the present design satisfies the allowing temperature of the structure. Another important thermal problem, pyro explosive fairing separation device, is calculated because the pyro system is very sensitive to the temperature. The results also satisfies the pyro thermal condition.

  • 인공위성에서 구조체의 역할은 발사환경 및 궤도상의 모든 발생 가능한 환경에서 위성체를 안전하게 지지하는 것이다. 인공위성의 개발단계에서 구조 및 열 개발모델은 유한요소모델 보정 및 구조강도/특성 확인 등의 구조적인 특징과 열평형시험을 통한 열적 안정성의 확인을 그 목적으로 한다. 이때 얻어진 결과는 실제 비행모델의 개발 시 구조 및 열적 안정성 검증 등의 중요한 자료로써 활용된다. 본 논문에서는 고정밀 지구관측위성의 구조 및 열 개발모델에 대해 구조 관점에서의 설계/해석에 대해 기술하고 또한 모달 시험을 통한 시험결과와 유한요소해석과의 비교에 대해 기술한다.
