Pulse-Width Modulation Strategy for Common Mode Voltage Elimination with Reduced Common Mode Voltage Spikes in Multilevel Inverters with Extension to Over-Modulation Mode

  • This paper presents a pulse-width modulation strategy to eliminate the common mode voltage (CMV) with reduced CMV spikes in multilevel inverters since a high CMV magnitude and its fast variations dv/dt result in bearing failure of motors, overvoltage at motor terminals, and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The proposed method only utilizes the zero CMV states in a space vector diagram and it is implemented by a carrier-based pulse-width modulation (CBPWM) method. This method is generalized for odd number levels of inverters including neutral-point-clamped (NPC) and cascaded H-bridge inverters. Then it is extended to the over-modulation mode. The over-modulation mode is implemented by using the two-limit trajectory principle to maintain linear control and to avoid look-up tables. Even though the CMV is eliminated, CMV spikes that can cause EMI and bearing current problems still exist due to the deadtime effect. As a result, the deadtime effect is analyzed. By taking the deadtime effect into consideration, the proposed method is capable of reducing CMV spikes. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

  • This paper is proposed new fuzzy controller for high performance of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) drive. New fuzzy controller take out appropriate amounts of accumulated control input according to fuzzily described situations in addition to the incremental control input calculated by conventional direct fuzzy controller The structures of the proposed controller is motivated by the problems of direct fuzzy controller. The direct controller generally give inevitable overshoot when one tries to reduce rise time of response especially when a system of order higher than one is under consideration. The undesirable characteristics of the direct fuzzy controller are caused by integrating operation of the controller, even though the Integrator itself is introduced to overcome steady state error in response. Proposed controller fuzzily clear out integrated quantities acrording to situation. This paper attempts to provide a thorough comparative insight into the behavior of IPMSM drive with direct and new fuzzy speed controller. The validity of new fuzzy speed controller is confirmed by response results for IPMSM drive system.

A Study on the Design of Logistics Transportation System using Magnetic Levitation (자기부상 물류이송시스템 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In the paper, we propose a design method for the logistics transportation system using magnetic levitation that has a good characteristics without mechanical friction, noise and dust. The proposed transportation system consists of a levitation control system and a propulsion control system. Magnetic levitation system is an electromagnetic suspension system in which electromagnet generates magnetic attractive force and the attractive force pulls the rail. We design a PID controller for the current control of electromagnets. We use linear induction motors for propulsion of the proposed logistics transportation system and adapt the space vector PWM method for the propulsion control system. The proposed transportation system using magnetic levitation is verified performances through levitation and propulsion experiments.

  • This paper presents a SPMSM(Surface-mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) servo drive system using high performance TMS320F2812 DSP for the industrial application. The DSP(Digital Signal Processor) Controller enables an enhanced real time algorithm and cost-effective design intelligent for only exclusively motor drives which can be yield enhanced operation, fewer system components, lower control system cost, increased efficiency and high performance. The suggested system contain speed and current sensing circuits, SVPWM(Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation) and I/O interface circuit. The developed servo drive control system showns a good response characteristics results and high performance features in general purposed 400[w] machine. This system can achieve cost reduction and size minimization of controllers.
