  • This study is intended to set the concept of becoming meaning of digital space through digital technology and to study the influence of digital space on becoming of real space through derived keyword. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the digital concept is created in the process that the virtual space is changed into the real space with a priority given to form, space and time. Digital expression concept and image concept the structural becoming, and idea concept and creative concept creates the time becoming. Second, the concept of digital becoming exposes a physical visibility through the digital's virtual image, and non-space spatiality through the space simulation. It also continuously reveals a consecutive time and non-consecutive time through a statable progress, incremental progress, and dynamic progress. Third, as the influence of digital on becoming of real space, the digital visibly not only expresses the new and difficult becoming problem through conceptual virtuality, but also can review the real space's space concept with virtuality in the digital non-area. Digital's durability expresses the new space's existence by physically combining with the existing space through the virtual form creation.

  • Purpose: Maximizing human comfort in design of medical environments depends immensely on specialized architects particularly critical care design; the study proposes Evidence-Based Design as an apparent analog to Evidence-Based Medicine. Healthcare facility designs are substantially based on the findings of study in an effort to design environments that augment care by improving patient safety and being therapeutic. On SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) t-test is applied to simulate two independent variables of PDR (Pre Design-Research) and POE (Post- Occupancy Evaluation). PDR is conducted on relatively new hospital Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital to analyse visibility from researchers' point of view, here the ICU is arranged in I-Shape. POE is applied on Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital to simulate walking on LogWare where two NS are designed based on L- Shape and Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, The Catholic University of Korea where five NS are functional for ICU Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), Korean Oriental Medical Care Unit which are mostly arranged in U-Shape, and walking pattern is recognized to be in a zigzag path. Method: T-Test is applied on two dependent communication variables: walkability and visibility, with confidence interval of 95%. This study systematically analyses the Nurse Station (NS) typo-morphology, and simulates nurse horizontal circulation, by computing round route visits to patient's bed, then estimating minimum round route on LogWare stop sequence software. The visual connectivity is measured on depth map graphs. Hence the aim is to reduce staff stress and fatigue for better patients care by minimizing staff horizontal travel time and to facilitate nurse walk path and support space distribution by increasing effectiveness in delivering care. Result: Applying visibility graph and isovist field on space syntax on I- Shape, L- Shape and U- Shape ICU (SICU, MICU and CCU) configuration, I-shape facilitated 20% more patients in linear view as they stir to rise from their beds from nurse station compared to U-shape. In conclusion, it was proved that U-Shape supply minimum walking and maximum visibility; and L shape provides just visibility as the nurse is at pivot. I shape provides panoramic view from the Nurse Station but very rigorous walking.

  • Recently, star sensors have been successfully used as main attitude sensors for attitude control in many satellites. This research presents the star visibility analysis for star trackers and the goal of this analysis is to make sure that the star tracker implementation is suitable to the mission profile and scenario and satisfies the requirement of attitude orbit control system. As a main optical attitude sensor imaging stars, accomodations of a star tracker should be optimized in order to improve the probability of the usage by avoiding the blinding (the unavailability) by the Sun and the Earth. For the analysis, a statistical approach and a time simulation approach are used. The statistical approach is based on the generation of numerous cases, to derive relevant statistics about Earth and Sun proximity probabilites for different lines of sight. The time simulation approach is performed for one orbit to check the statistical result and to refine the statistical result and accomodations of star trackers. In order to perform simulations first of all, an orbit and specific mission profiles of a satellite are set, next the earth proximity probability and the sun proximity probability are calculated by considering the attitude maneuvers and the geometry of the orbit, and then finally the unavailability positions are estimated. As a result, the optimized accomodations of two star trackers are suggested for the low earth orbit satellite.

  • In this paper, OSP(Octal Space Partitioning) tree is proposed for the real time culling of infinite sets of geometries in interactive Virtual Environment applications. And MSVBSP(Modified Shadow Volume BSP) tree is suggested for the occlusion culling. Experimental results show that the OSP and MSVBSP tree are efficiently implemented in real time rendering of interactive geometries.

  • In this paper, we present a prism-based mesh culling method to improve effectiveness of continuous collision detection which is a major bottleneck in a simulation using polygonal mesh models. A prism is defined based on two matching triangles between a sequence of times m a polygonal model. In order to detect potential colliding set(PCS) of prism between two polygonal models in a unit time, we apply the visibility test based on the occlusion query to two sets of prisms which are defined from two polygonal models in a unit time. Moreover, we execute the narrow band culling based on SAT(Separating Axis Test) to define potential colliding prism pairs from PCS of prisms extracted as a result of the visibility test. In the SAT, we examine one axis to be perpendicular to a plane which divides a 3D space into two half spaces to include each prism. In the experiments, we applied the proposed culling method to pairs of polygonal models with the different size and compared the number of potential colliding prism pairs with the number of all possible prism pairs of two polygonal models. We also compared effectiveness and performance of the visibility test-based method with those of the SAT-based method as the second narrow band culling. In an experiment using two models to consist of 2916 and 2731 polygons, respectively, we got potential colliding prism pairs with 99 % of culling rate.

  • As the economical and cultural levels become higher, the public have more various and new cultural desires, leading to an increase in the number and kinds of cultural facilities. Out of all the cultural facilities built in such a trend, art museums are the yardstick for a certain nation's cultural level, and the number of art museums is gradually increasing every year in Korea, as a cultural space where the public can make cultural exchanges with artists. On the contrary to the increasing number of art museums, however, the number of art museum visitors is decreasing every year, so various attempts are made to activate art museums in Korea. Thus, this study aims to seek a plan to activate the space of an art museum by improving the physical movement of art museum visitors, especially targeting small-sized ones out of all the art museums in Korea. For accurate analyses and verifications, this study used the visibility-ERAM program. As a result of analyses, this study found out and reconsidered several problems related to the space of art museums, and based on the results, the researcher could verify the related hypotheses, further comprehending possible errors of the proposed solution to those problems and supplement in a short period of time. Since such an analysis method and process has objective accuracy, it is expected that the results of this study will be used as basic data for future plans to activate the space of art museums.

  • This study presents signal availability of inter-operable global navigation satellite system (multi-GNSS) combined with future Korean Positioning System (KPS), specifically at geosynchronous orbit (GSO). The orbit of KPS, which is currently under conceptual feasibility study, is first introduced, and the grid points for evaluating space service volume (SSV) at GSO are generated. The signal observabilities are evaluated geometrically between those grid points and KPS/GNSS satellites. Then, analyzed are the visibility averaged over time/space and outage time to not access one or four signals. The reduction of maximum outage time induced by KPS are presented with different maximum off-boresight angles depending on L1/E1/B1 and L5/L3/E5a/B2 frequencies. Our numerical analysis shows that the SSV of multi-GNSS combined with KPS provides up to 7 additional signals and could provide continuous observation time (zero outage time) of more than four GNSS or KPS signals for 3.20-14.83% of SSV grid points at GSO. Especially at GSO above North/South America and Atlantic region, the introduction of KPS reduces the outage duration by up to 63 minutes with L1/E1/B1 frequency.

  • Silhouette is useful in computer graphics for a number of techniques such as non-photorealistic rendering, silhouette clipping, and blueprint generating. Methods for generating silhouette are classified into three categories: image-based, object-based, and hybrid-based. Hybrid-based method is effective in terms of time complexity but spatial coherence problem still remains. In this paper, we proposed a new hybrid-based method which produces 3D data for silhouette and also guarantees no spatial coherence problem. To verify the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, several experiments are conducted for various 3D models from simple to quite complex. Results show that our algorithm generates no gap between any two consecutive silhouette lines when the silhouette model is magnified significantly.

  • This paper presents an image-space algorithm to real-time collision detection, which is run completely by GPU. For a single object or for multiple objects with no collision, the front and back faces appear alternately along the view direction. However, such alternation is violated when objects collide. Based on these observations, the algorithm has been devised, and the implementation utilizes the state-of-the-art functionalities of GPU such as framebuffer objects(FBO), vertex buffer object(VBO) and occlusion query. The experimental results show the feasibility of GPU-intensive collision detection and its performance gain in real-time applications such as 3D games.

  • The fluctuation of VLBI visibility phase can be occurred, predominantly caused by the irregular distribution and motion of water vapor in the atmosphere at high frequencies (>1GHz). This radio-seeing effect shows up on filled-aperture telescopes as an anomalous refraction (AR). This can be shown as if the antenna pointing-offset increases, in other words the apparent displacement of radio sources from its nominal position happens. We carried out the single-dish observations on KVN sites in order to check the effect of AR from 2010 to 2014. Orion KL, U Her, and R Leo were observed with 1second sampling time at 22.235GHz and 43.122GHz simultaneously. Each source was observed with the tracking mode for 30 minutes per a source. We analyzed the structure function, power spectrum and Allan variance of the data according to a day and a night, a season and observatories. Finally, we can infer that the AR effect depends on the atmospheric environment, especially tropospheric turbulence.
