An Adaptive Detection Scheme of Differential Space-Time Block Codes for Mobiles Operating with Various Speeds in LTE Downlink Scenario (LTE 하향링크에서 단말의 이동 속도에 따른 적응적 차등 시공간블록부호 복호화 기법)

  • Space-Time Block Code (STBC) is a simple transmit diversity scheme mitigating detrimental effects of fading channel. However, STBC receivers require channel knowledge and suffer from inaccurate channel estimation. Differential Space-Time Modulation (DSTM) renders the receiver a choice of coherent detection or non-coherent detection, depending on the availability of the channel information. Based on the simulated BER performances of these two schemes over various normalized Doppler frequency scenarios using LTE-like parameters, a benefit of adaptively switching the receiver type is investigated.

Perfonnance Analysis of the Combined AMC-MIMO Systems with MCS Level Selection Method (MCS 레벨 선택 방식에 따른 AMC-MIMO 결합 시스템의 성능 비교)

  • In this paper, we propose and observe a system that adopts Independent-MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) level for each layer in the combined AMC-V-BLAST (Adaptive Modulation and Coding-Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) system. Also, comparing with the combined system using Common-MCS level, we observe throughput performance improvement. As a result of simulation, Independent-MCS level case adapts modulation and coding scheme for maximum throughput to each channel condition in separate layer, resulting in improved throughput compared to Common-MCS level case. Especially, the results show that the combined AMC-V-BLAST system with Independent-MCS level achieves a gain of 700kbps in $7dB{\sim}9dB$ SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) range.

Trellis-Coded Differential Unitary Space-Time Modulation with High Spectral Efficiency (고속 데이터 전송을 위한 트렐리스 부호 차동 유일 시공간 변조 기법에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a new trellis-coded differential unitary space-time modulation (TC-DUSTM) scheme based on amplitude/phase-shift-keying (APSK) signals is proposed. In particular, the design criterion of the trellis coding is proposed to combine the trellis coding and DUSTM scheme based on APSK constellation. From the computer simulations, we verify the superiority of the proposed TC-DUSTM based on APSK signals at the higher transmission rate. In addition, the proposed scheme can suppress the irreducible error of the differential scheme.

  • The hybrid cascaded multilevel inverter (HCMLI) is a popular converter topology that is being increasingly used in high power medium voltage drives. The intricacy of the control technique for a HCMLI increases with the number of levels and due to fluctuating dc voltages. This paper presents a novel offline quadrant search based space vector modulation technique to synthesize a sinusoidal output from a dispersed pattern of voltage vectors due to different voltages in the auxiliary unit. Such an investigation has never been reported in the literature and it is being attempted for the first time. The method suggested distributes the voltage vectors for a reduced total harmonic distortion at minimal computation. In addition, the proposed algorithm determines the maximum modulation index in the linear modulation range in order to synthesize a sinusoidal output for both normal and abnormal vector patterns. It is better suited for a wide range of practical applications. It is particularly well suited for renewable source fed inverters which utilize large capacitor banks to maintain the dc link, which are prone to such slow fluctuations. The proposed quadrant search space vector modulation technique is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK and implemented using a Nexys-2 Spartan-3E FPGA for a developed prototype.

A Generalized Space Vector Modulation Scheme Based on a Switch Matrix for Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverters

  • The cascaded H Bridge (CHB) multilevel inverter (MLI) is popular among the classical MLI topologies due to its modularity and reliability. Although space vector modulation (SVM) is the most suitable modulation scheme for MLIs, it has not been used widely in industry due to the higher complexity involved in its implementation. In this paper, a simple and novel generalized SVM algorithm is proposed, which has both reduced time and space complexity. The proposed SVM involves the generalization of both the duty cycle calculation and switching sequence generation for any n-level inverter. In order to generate the gate pulses for an inverter, a generalized switch matrix (SM) for the CHB inverter is also introduced, which further simplifies the algorithm. The algorithm is tested and verified for three-phase, three-level and five-level CHB inverters in simulations and hardware implementation. A comparison of the proposed method with existing SVM schemes shows the superiority of the proposed scheme.

Evolution of Spin and Superorbital Modulation in 4U 0114+650

  • We report on a systematic analysis of the spin and superorbital modulations of the high-mass X-ray binary 4U 0114+650, which consists of the slowest spinning neutron star known. Utilizing dynamic power spectra, we found that the spin period varied dramatically during the RXTE ASM and Swift BAT observations. This variation consists of a long-term spin-up trend, and two ~1,000 day and one ~600 day random walk epochs previously, MJD 51,000, ~MJD 51,400-52,000, and ~MJD 55,100-56,100. We further found that the events appear together with depressions of superorbital modulation amplitude. This provides evidence of the existence of an accretion disk, although the physical mechanism of superorbital modulation remains unclear. Furthermore, the decrease of the superorbital modulation amplitude may be associated with the decrease of mass accretion rate from the disk, and may distribute the accretion torque of the neutron star randomly in time.

  • In this paper, we propose a bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) a lied to improved super-orthogonal space-time block code(SOSTBC). The proposed system achieves a greater diversity gain than that of super-orthogonal space-time trellis code (SOSTTC) with similar decoding complexity. Since, using the improved SOSTBC, the bit diversity carl be full diversity of SOSTBC. In contrast, BICM applied to Jafarkhani's SOSTBC is difficult to achieve a greater diversity gain than that of SOSTTC, because every bit diversity of the system is 1.

  • In this paper, we have evaluated and analyzed OTFS(Orthogonal Time Frequency Space) modulation and OTFS-MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) system. OTFS modulation can concisely compensate delay-Doppler spreading effect by using 2D(2-Dimension) iDFT (inverse Discrete Fourier Transform) and DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) operation. It enables OTFS system to transmit high-speed data. Especially, OTFS-MIMO system can transmit all data streams without performance degradation on high Doppler frequency channel. As simulation results, we have confirmed that $1{\times}1$ OTFS system's achievable rate is a similar to each stream of $2{\times}2$ OTFS-MIMO system. That is, we have also confirmed that $2{\times}2$ MIMO system can completely achieve double achievable rate in comparison with OTFS system on high Doppler frequency channel.

  • Unitary matrix modulation (UMM) is investigated in multiple antennas system that is called unitary space-time modulation (USTM). In an OFDM, the diagonal components of UMM with splitting over the coherence bandwidth (UMM-S/OFDM) have been proposed. Recently LDPC code is strongly attended and studied due to simple decoding property with good error correction property. In this paper, we propose LDPC coded UMM-S/OFDM for increasing the system performance. Our proposed system can obtain frequency diversity using UMM-S/OFDM like USTM/OFDM, and large coding gain using LDPC code. The superior characteristics of the proposed UMM-S/OFDM are demonstrated by extensive computer simulations in multi-path Rayleigh fading channel.

  • Unitary matrix modulation (UMM) is investigated in multiple antennas system that is called unitary space-time modulation (USTM). When we consider only diagonal components of UMM with splitting over the coherence bandwidth, the system can obtain frequency diversity in a single antenna system. In Rayleigh fading channel, we compared USTM/OFDM with 2Tx-antenna with UMM-S/OFDM with 1Tx-antenna, conventional multi-level OFDM and UMM-S/OFDM with changing bit rate per Hz. Also, we analyzed SNR for between multi-level modulation STBC/OFDM and multi-level modulation UMM-S/OFDM with changing transmission rate. When it was adaptive multi-level modulation to improve SNR, we did the UMM-S/OFDM system performance analysis of N-ary PSK and M-ary QAM.
