This paper presents an efficient method for automatically detecting objects in a given image. The GHT is a robust template matching algorithm for automatic object detection in order to find objects of various shapes. Many different templates are applied by the GHT in order to find objects of various shapes and size. Every boundary detected by the GHT scan be used as an initial outline for more precise contour-finding techniques. The main weakness of the GHT is the excessive time and memory requirements. In order to overcome this drawback, the proposed algorithm uses a multiresolution search by scaling down the original image to half-sized and quarter-sized images. Using the information from the first iterative GHT on a quarter-sized image, the range of nuclear sizes is determined to limit the parameter space of the half-sized image. After the second iterative GHT on the half-sized image, nuclei are detected by the fine search and segmented with edge information which helps determine the exact boundary. The experimental results show that this method gives reduction in computation time and memory usage without loss of accuracy.
This study was performed to investigate the morophological and positional correlation between the upper cervical vertebra, the oral structures and the pharyngeal tissues, and the correlation of these anatomical structures with dental features, such as teeth wear area nad tooth contact status, etc. Seventy patients with temporamandibular disorders and sixty three dental students without any signs and symptoms in head and neck region were selected for this study. All they had natural dentition without any fixed and removable protheses. Teeth wear area and arch width wre measured from the upper dental cast, tooth contact status were observed by T-Scan system$^\textregistered$ and four cephaloradiograpohs were taken from four head postures, namely, natural(NHP), forward(FHP), upward(UHP), and downward head postiure(DHP). 22 cephalometric items were measured on the films and the data were processed with SAS statistical program. The result of this study were as follows : 1. In normal group, angle of cervical vertebra tangent and of between hard and soft palate were broader in female subjects than those in male subjacets, but distance from subocciput to axis, size of soft palate, and pharyngeal space width were larger in male subjects. 2. In normal group with natural head posture, the items correlated each others from the three anatomical regions were distance between first nad second vertebra in posterior part, distance from the lingual surface of lower anterior teeth to anterior surface of soft palate, and distance from the hyoid bone to third vertebra. 3. Three set of items showed significant correlation each other in the four head postures in normal group. First set was the angle between hard and soft palate and the idstance from subocciput to posterior arch of first vertebra, second set was the distance between first and second vertebra in posterior part and the teeth wear area, third set was number and force of tooth contact and length of soft palate and distance from anterior tip of hyoid bone to mandibular plane.

In the ocean engineering field, information about the ocean environment is important for planning, design, and operation, especially the wave information. High precision wave data is also important for considering environmental problems, like efficient operation of ships. For this purpose, many methods were considered in the past. However, an on-board directing wave measurement system has not been incorporated. The use of conventional marine radar Plane Position Indicator (PPI) images allows the estimation of wave information on a real-time basis, using both space and time information, regarding the evolution of ocean surface waves. In order to achieve data acquisition, the Radar Scan Converter (RSC) has been developed. Three-dimensional analysis was performed. The comparison of wave information derived from this system, and that of wave buoy, shows that this wave field detecting system can be a useful tool.
Idiopathic pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is a rare disorder characterized by surfactant component accumulation in the alveolar space. Idiopathic PAP has recently been recognized as a autoimmune disease of impaired alveolar macrophage function caused by autoantibodies against granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). While whole lung lavage has been the standard treatment, not every patient shows a complete response. Subcutaneous injection or inhalation of GM-CSF is another promising treatment option for PAP. A 45-year-old patient visited our hospital for dyspnea, he was diagnosed as PAP and underwent whole lung lavage. Eighteen months later, the patient had not achieved complete remission in despite of initial response. After then he was administered with GM-CSF (5 ${mu}g/kg/day$, subcutaneous injection) for fivetimes a week during 2 months. Nine months later, the abnormal shadows in high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) decreased and the patient fully recovered in forced vital capacity. After 60 months, the HRCT scan showed complete remission of PAP.
To engrave high-density circuit-line patterns in IC substrates, we applied a projection ablation technique in which a dielectric ($ZrO_2/SiO_2$) mask, a DPSS UV laser instead of an excimer laser, a refractive beam shaping optics and a galvo scanner are used. The line/space dimension of line patterns of the dielectric mask is $10{\mu}m/10{\mu}m$. Using a ${\pi}$ -shaper and a square aperture, the Gaussian beam from the laser is shaped into a square flap-top beam; and a telecentric f-${\theta}$ lens focuses it to a $115{\mu}m{\times}105{\mu}m$ flat-top beam on the mask. The galvo scanner before the f-${\theta}$ lens moves the beam across the scan area of $40mm{\times}40mm$. An 1:1 projection lens was used. Experiments showed that the widths of the engraved patterns in a buildup film ranges from $8.1{\mu}m$ to $10.2{\mu}m$ and the depths from $8.8{\mu}m$ to $11.7{\mu}m$. Results indicates that it is required to increase the projection ratio to enhance profiles of the engraved patterns.

A 7-year-old, intact female Yorkshire terrier dog was presented for coughing, anorexia, chest pain and dyspnea. Right lateral thoracic radiograph demonstrated a large mass shape on the heart base with decreased cardiac silhouette and severe right deviation of the trachea with the heart shifted to the left thoracic wall was observed on the ventrodorsal thoracic projection. Echocardiographic examination revealed a large rounded mass compressing left atrium around the heart base without signs of pericardial effusion. On computed tomographic (CT) findings, sagittal CT images depicted the possibility of cranial vena caval invasion and heart base involvement of the mass associated with biatrial compression. Dorsal CT image revealed the right deviation of trachea due to the heart base mass and markedly shrunk lung space was detected on the transverse CT image. Because the dog suddenly had died during the recovery from anesthesia after finishing CT scan, necropsy was performed. On gross findings, a large and lobulated mass was located at the base of the heart. A poorly-demarcated, infiltrative, multilobulated tumor composed of polyhedral cells in solid cellular sheets was confirmed based on histopathologic examination. This dog was diagnosed as a chemodectoma. This case report describes the clinical findings, diagnostic consistency of thoracic radiography, echocardiography and CT, and histopathologic confirmation in a spontaneously occurring chemodectoma with a Yorkshire terrier dog.
Pulmonary aspergilloma is potentially a life threatening disease resulting from the colonization of lung cavities by Aspergillus fumigatus. A case is reported: a 43-year-old man with symtomatic cavitary aspergilloma presenting with severe productive coughing, hemopt sis, occasional fever, and chilling. On preoperative plain chest radiograph and CT scan, we could find a rounded irregular opacity in a large pulmonary cavity. He received 2 separate operations for therapeutic need. At the first opertion, we performed cavernostomy and thoracoplasty because of severe pleural adhesions, tearing of cavity wall, and high risk of respiratory insufficiency. At the second operation, we performed myoplasty and omentoplasty for closure of remaining air space and complete wrapping of the BPF site. All symptoms of dyspnea and hemoptysis have since resolved. We believed that in the high risk patients who have severe respiratory symptoms, such as in aspergilloma and open cavity with a risk of respiratory insufficiency, cavernostomy followed by myoplasty or omentoplasty should be recommended.
Solitary plasmacytomas are rare and account for 5-10% of all plasma cell disorders. These tumors are categorized as solitary plasmacytomas of bone(osseous) or extramedullary plasmacytomas(non-osseous). About a half of solitary plasmacytomas of bone occur in the spine but rarely in the skull. We report a case of solitary plasmacytoma of the skull presented with a painless palpable left parietal calvarial mass in an otherwise asymptomatic 38- year-old man. Skull radiographs showed a large radiolucent lesion with well defined non-sclerotic margins. Computed tomograph scan demonstrated a markedly enhancing mass extending from the epidural to the subcutaneous space. The patient underwent surgery and tumor was completely excised. Pathological examination showed tumor to be a plasmacytoma synthesizing IgG. Postoperatively, the patient received radiotherapy. There was no evidence of systemic involvement on postoperative laboratory wokups. Our recommended treatment is a complete surgical excision combined with postoperative radiation therapy. The patient should be follwed carefully for more than 10 years because of either local recurrence or possible progression to multiple myeloma.
In this paper, we propose the new method that offer detailed-information through relax the system memory limitation about 3D model to user. That method based on making LOD(Level of Detail) model from huge 3D data of structure cultural assets. In our method as transformed AOSP algorithm, first of all it create the hierarchical structure space about 3D data, and create the LOD model by surface simplification. Then it extract the ROI(Region of Interest) of user in simplified LOD model, and then do rendering by original model and same surface detailed-information after process the local detailed in extracted region. To evaluate the proposed method, we have some experiment by using the precise 3D scan data of structure cultural assets. Our method can offer the detailed-information same as exist method, and moreover 45% reduced consumption of memory experimentally by forming mesh structure same as ROI of simplified LOD model. So we can check the huge structure cultural assets particularly in general computer environment.
We present a method for the estimation of 3D solid angle assessment of the acetabular coverage of the femoral head in 3D space. At first, femoral head and acetabulum is segmented from the original CT scan images. The slice thickness is 1.5mm and the number of slices is usually 30-40 to cover the entire acetabulum. The superior half of the femoral head is modeled as part of a sphere. Thus, the axial cross sections of the upper half of the femoral head are also modeled as circles. A set of points from each outline image of femoral head is fitted recursively into a circle by minimizing root-mean-square (RMS) error. With these fitted circles, a center point of the femoral head model is evaluated. This is a reference point for calculating the solid angle of the acetabular inner surface. Next, the tangent lines connecting from a set of points of the acetabular edge to the center of the fitted sphere are obtained. The lines pass through the unit sphere whose center is the same as that of the femoral head. With the points on the unit sphere, we calculate area and estimate the solid angle. Based on this solid angle, the deformity of the acetabulum is analyzed. In case of normal subject, the solid angle is about 4.3 (rad) and acetabular coverage is 68%.
