  • For initial stability of the tunnel, the primary support, Shotcrete and rockbolt shall be placed in the most appropriate time. This is because the role of such support plays a vital role in long-term and short-term tunnel stability. In this study, the rock bolt is an important supporting system that receives the external pressure generated by the stress relaxation during tunnel excavation as axial force and transmits it to the shotcrete on the tunnel excavation surface. Until now, most of the materials of rock bolts have been used in the field, but there have been many problems such as uncertain quality of Chinese materials entering the market, poor packing due to falling down of rock bolts when filled with mortar, and corrosion due to water. Therefore, in this study, we have developed a high strength steel pipe rock bolt using Autobeam material to solve and improve various problems of existing rock bolts. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed bolt, field tests were carried out and the existing mortar filler in order to improve the performance of the rock bolt, the design and construction criteria were studied and the results were included in this paper.

  • The improvement of esthetic dentistry has been accelerated from the development of composite resin and dentin-enamel adhesive since 1980's. The indirect composite resin restorations have more accurate proximal contact point and occlusal form than direct restoration. And the side effect of resin shrinkage is minimal because the amount of composite used in oral cavity is limited in cement space. As a results, marginal leakage, hypersensitivity, secondary caries, and discoloration are significantly diminished. The first generation laboratory composite resin used in indirect resin restoration had been widespread in 1980's and the second generation laboratory composite resins were developed in 1990's. The second generation laboratory composite resins are called Ceramic Polymer. The physical properties of Ceramic Polymer are improved because of high content of inorganic filler, and the esthetics and biocompatibility are better than that of the first generation resin. So the application range using composite resin have been broadened. The purpose of this paper is to introduce Targis & Vectris system that is classified to second generation laboratory composite and to report several cases in which the system was utilized for restoration.

  • In this paper, we develop an input device equipped with accelerometers and gyroscopes. The installed sensors measure the inertial measurements i.e., accelerations and angular rates produced by the movement of the system when a user is writing on the plane surface or in the three dimensional space. The gyroscope measurement are integrated once to give the attitude of the system and consequently used to remove the gravity included in the acceleration measurements. The compensated accelerations bin doubly integrated to yield the position of the system. Due to the integration processes involved in recovering the users'motions, the accuracy of the position estimation significantly deteriorates with time. Among various error sources of the system incorrect estimation of attitude causes the largest portion of the positioning error since the gravity is not fully cancelled. In order to solve this problem, we propose a Kalman filler-based attitude estimation algorithm which fuses measurement data from accelerometers and gyroscopes by fuzzy logic approach. In addition, the online calibration of the gyroscope biases are performed in parallel with the attitude estimation to give more accurate attitude estimation. The effectiveness and the feasibility of the presented system is demonstrated through computer simulations and actual experiments.

  • Tribological properties of novolac resin composites containing particulate barite (BaSO$_4$) or potassium titanate (K$_2$Oㆍ6(TiO$_2$))whiskers (two typical space fillers for commercial automotive brake linings) were investigated. The emphasis of the current investigation was given to the effect of the two fillers on the propensity of the stick-slip phenomena and formation of stable rubbing surface. A block-on-disk type tribometer was used for friction assessment. Results showed that the BaSO$_4$-filled composite produced large friction force oscillations at slow sliding speeds and created severe damage on the gray iron counter surface. On the other hand, the composite with $K_2$Oㆍ6(TiO$_2$) whiskers formed a stable rubbing surface and showed smooth sliding behavior without large friction force fluctuation. The microscopic observation of the rubbing surface revealed that the $K_2$Oㆍ6(TiO$_2$)whiskers played a key role in the formation of stable rubbing surface and smooth sliding behavior by effectively reinforcing the resin.

  • Braces are one of the retrofitting systems of structure under earthquake loading. Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) are one of the very efficient braces for lateral loads. One of the key needs for a desirable and acceptable behavior of buckling-restraining brace members under intensive loading is that it prevents total buckling until the bracing member tolerates enough plastic deformation and ductility. This paper presents the results of a set of analysis by finite element method on buckling restrained braces in which the filler materials within the restraining member have been removed. These braces contain core as the conventional BRBs, but they have a different buckling restrained system. The purpose of this analysis is conducting a parametric study on various empty spaces between core and restraining member, the effect of friction between core and restraining member and applying initial deformation to brace system to investigate the global buckling behavior of these braces. The results of analysis indicate that the flexural stiffness of restraining member, regardless of the amount of empty space, can influence the global buckling behavior of brace significantly.

  • Recurrent neural networks(RNNs) trained with gradient based such as real time recurrent learning(RTRL) has a drawback of slor convergence rate. This algorithm also needs the derivative calculation which is not trivialized in error back propagation process. In this paper a derivative free Kalman filter, so called the unscented Kalman filter(UKF), for training a fully connected RNN is presented in a state space formulation of the system. A derivative free Kalman filler learning algorithm makes the RNN have fast convergence speed and good tracking performance without the derivative computation. Through experiments of nonlinear channel equalization, performance of the RNNs with a derivative free Kalman filter teaming algorithm is evaluated.

  • In this paper, the impact damage behavior of USN-150B carbon/epoxy composite laminates subjected to high velocity impact was studied experimentally and numerically. Square composite laminates stacked with $[45/0/-45/90]_{ns}$ quasi-symmetric and $[0/90]_{ns}$ cross-ply stacking sequences and a conical shape projectile with steel core, copper skin and lead filler were considered. First high-velocity impact tests were conducted under various test conditions. Three tests were repeated under the same impact condition. Projectile velocity before and after penetration were measured by infrared ray sensors and magnetic sensors. High-speed camera shots and C-Scan images were also taken to measure the projectile velocities and to obtain the information on the damage shapes of the projectile and the laminate specimens. Next, the numerical simulation was performed using explicit finite element code LS-DYNA. Both the projectile and the composite laminate were modeled using three-dimensional solid elements. Residual velocity history of the impact projectile and the failure shape and extents of the laminates were predicted and systematically examined. The results of this study can provide the understanding on the penetration process of laminated composites during ballistic impact, as well as the damage amount and modes. These were thought to be utilized to predict the decrease of mechanical properties and also to help mitigate impact damage of composite structures.

  • The incorporation of 90 nm alumina particles into an epoxy matrix to form a composite microstructure is described in present study. It is shown that the use of ultrafine particles results in a substantial change in the behavior of the composite, which can be traced to the mitigation of internal charges when a comparison is made with conventional $Al_2O_3$ fillers. A variety of diagnostic techniques have been used to augment pulsed electro-acoustic space charge measurement to provide a basis for understanding the underlying physics of the phenomenon. It would appear that, when the size of the inclusions becomes small enough, they act cooperatively with the host structure and cease to exhibit interfacial properties. It is postulated that the $Al_2O_3$ particles are surrounded by high charge concentrations. Since $Al_2O_3$ particles have very high specific areas, these regions allow limited charge percolation through $Al_2O_3$ filled dielectrics. The practical consequences of this have also been explored in terms of the electric strength exhibited. It would appear that there was a window in which real advantages accumulated from the nano-formulated material. An optimum filler loading of about 0.5 wt.% was indicated.

  • Advanced microwave absorbers for wide oblique incidence angles are required in many applications including wireless communication or vehicle identification in ITS(Intelligent Transport System) where 5.8 GHz DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) system is applied. In this study, two-layered microwave absorber(with a laminate structure of dielectric/magnetic composites) has been designed for the achievement of low reflection coefficient over wide incidence angles at 5.8 GHz. Iron flake particles are used as the filler in the absorbing layer, and the magnetic composite sheet exhibits high magnetic loss due to ferromagnetic resonance in gigahertz frequencies. The surface layer of low dielectric constant containing small amount of carbon black is used as the impedance transformer. On the basis of transmission line theory, the reflection loss has been calculated for the two-layer structure with variation of incident angles for both TE(Transverse Electric) and TM(Transverse Magnetic) polarizations. At the optimum thickness of the composite layers, a low value of reflection loss(less than -10 dB) has been predicted for wide incidence angles up to $55^{\circ}$ which is in good agreement with the measured value determined by free-space measurement.

  • In this paper, n system did research about effect that interference effect with neighborhood single equipment or group equipment gets in DMB service. For this, 2.6425 GHz SDMB(Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) that a special of electric wave interference is near frequency-band including interference of signal by unnecessary radiation level that is radiated in UWB system, and degree of 3.4125GHz broadcasting relay net that is In-band frequency-band and interference effect that get in service analyzed comparison ud, modulation of broadcasting relay net and interference measurement equipment used Impulse and OFDM methods. Impulse method was $BER=1{\times}10^4$ that broadcasting signal receiption is possible at 1.4m point because interference effect happens from 2m point in SDMB system, and it was $BER=1^{\times}10-4$ that OFDM method receives interference effect from 0.8m point and broadcasting signal receiption is possible at 0.5m point. Also, about gap-filler center frequency, in case of space interval more than 0.01m, there was no interference effect. Therefore, for the electric wave of W system that is small output applies to system without interference effect in DMB service, confirmed that UWB system of OFDM method is less interference effect than UWB system of impulse method.
