  • The flight control of re-entry vehicles poses a challenge to conventional gain-scheduled flight controllers due to the widely spread aerodynamic coefficients. In addition, a wide range of uncertainties in disturbances must be accommodated by the control system. This paper presents the design of a roll channel controller for a non-axisymmetric reentry vehicle model using the trajectory linearization control (TLC) method. The dynamic equations of a moving mass system and roll control model are established using the Lagrange method. Nonlinear tracking and decoupling control by trajectory linearization can be viewed as the ideal gain-scheduling controller designed at every point along the flight trajectory. It provides robust stability and performance at all stages of the flight without adjusting controller gains. It is this "plug-and-play" feature that is highly preferred for developing, testing and routine operating of the re-entry vehicles. Although the controller is designed only for nominal aerodynamic coefficients, excellent performance is verified by simulation for wind disturbances and variations from -30% to +30% of the aerodynamic coefficients.

  • The Solar and Space Environment Division of the Korean Space Science Society investigated the use and possession of ground and satellite observations and models of solar and planetary data operated by domestic research institutes and universities. Based on the findings, we would like to introduce observational instruments, data, and models in solar and interplanetary fields in this paper to improve understanding and use of each data and explore opportunities for interdisciplinary research. The ground and satellite observations, which require a lot of investment, were mainly held by research institutes (National Meteorological Satellite Center, Polar Research Institute, Korean Space Weather, Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and KAIST Satellite Research Institute), and model development was overwhelmingly carried out at Kyung Hee University. In solar and interplanetary fields, we introduce Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS), neutron monitors, and the analysis models [for the Solar Dynamics Observatory/Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (SDO/AIA) and Hinode/X-Ray Telescope (XRT) observations] in nonequilibrium ionization state as representatives. Survey on solar and interplanetary fields can be downloaded from the website of the Korean Space Science Society (http://ksss.or.kr/). The paper makes know the importance of long-term and continuous management of space science-related materials, and hopes to contribute to enhancing the status of domestic space science data by utilizing locally produced data by various personnel participating in space science research.

  • The paper presents a novel approach of constructing the state matrix of the multi-machine power system for SSR (subsynchronous resonance) analysis using the linearized equations of individual devices including electrical transmission network dynamics. The machine models in the local d-q reference frame are integrated with the network models in the common R-I reference frame by simply transforming their output equations into the R-I frame where the transformed output is used as the input to the network dynamics or vice versa. The salient feature of the formulation is that it allows for modular construction of various component models without rearranging the overall state space formulation. This universal SSR small signal stability program provides a flexible tool for systematic analyses of SSR small-signal stability impacts of both conventional devices such as generation systems and novel devices such as power electronic apparatus and their controllers. The paper also presents its application results to IEEE benchmark models.

  • In this paper, thermodynamical properties of crystalline silicon under strain are calculated using classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations based on the Tersoff interatomic potential. The Helmholtz free energy of the silicon crystal under strain is calculated by using the ensemble method developed by Frenkel and Ladd (1984). To account for quantum corrections under strain in the classical MD simulations, we propose an approach where the quantum corrections to the internal energy and the Helmholtz free energy are obtained by using the corresponding energy deviation between the classical and quantum harmonic oscillators. We calculate the variation of thermodynamic properties with temperature and strain and compare them with results obtained by using the quasi-harmonic model in the reciprocal space.

  • High resolution images of the nuclear regions of nearby galaxies show that nuclear spirals are preponderant in normal galaxies as well as in active galaxies. These nuclear spirals, especially the grand-design nuclear spirals are found to be formed by the gas flow driven by the bar. Hydrodynamical simulations exploring a wide range of parameter space show that the morphology of nuclear spirals depends not only on the inner dynamics but on the global dynamics resulting from the global mass distribution of galaxies. Thus, the nuclear morphology can be a diagnostic tool for the inner dynamics of galaxies when the global mass distribution is taken into account.

  • In this paper, we proposed an indirect learning and direct adaptive control schemes using neural networks, i.e., composite adaptive neural control, for a class of continuous nonlinear systems. With the indirect learning method, the neural network learns the nonlinear basis of the system inverse dynamics by a modified backpropagation learning rule. The basis spans the local vector space of inverse dynamics with the direct adaptation method when the indirect learning result is within a prescribed error tolerance, as such this method is closely related to the adaptive control methods. Also hash addressing technique, similar to the CMAC functional architecture, is introduced for partitioning network hidden nodes according to the system states, so global neuro control properties can be organized by the local ones. For uniform stability, the sliding mode control is introduced when the neural network has not sufficiently learned the system dynamics. With proper assumptions on the controlled system, global stability and tracking error convergence proof can be given. The performance of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated with the simulation results of a nonlinear system.

  • Building trust assurance particularly in case of commercial practices in cyber space without physical contact is a very complex task to tackle. Several factors are interrelated in not necessarily technical but also societal dimensions over the entire process of e-commerce firm ex-ante through ex-post transactions. This paper attempts first to brief the substance of e-trust and examine the natuure of its complexity by using system dynamics simulation technique, followed by its current address and the future directions to move. A framework of 3 x 3 matrixes is deviaed and the key issues of e-trust are mapped into cross-cells of the table. The paper also includes some possible suggestions on the matter of trust assurance especially for B2C and B2B in policy wise and organizational perspective from the context of international collaboration.

  • Train dynamics affects significantly safe and efficient operation of a train, especially during traction or braking period. Train dynamics is intrinsically complex due to many DOF motions in a three-dimensional space, and its behavior during the braking stage is too complex to understand and design an effective braking logic of the train. In this paper, we present a two-dimensional model with three DOF motion in a longitudinal, vertical, and pitch direction for the Hanvit 200 tilting train, which is efficient to analyze a braking performance. Furthermore, we analyze the braking logic and simulate the braking process of the Hanvit 200 tilting train using Simulink.

  • It has recently been shown that the instability of thin film of a nanoscale can be used in the processes of building nano-size structures, which have potential practical importance in nanotechnology. Molecular dynamics simulation is conducted to probe the thin fluid film of a nano-size and its dynamic behavior during destabilization and structure formation. Non-continuum characteristics are shown in the properties like pressure tensor, viscosity, and thermal conductivity. The thermocapillary force induces a slow growth of long waves in the scale considered. A long-range interaction with the solid wall induces vertical structures, whose formation time and space between neighbors are proportional to the strength of the interaction.

  • The study examines the play theory based internet rumor process by using simulating tools, Vensim, which offer a new theoretical basis from which to explore complex adaptive social system. Internet rumor is not a simple linear diffusion process, but a complex interaction behavior between the actors of production and diffusion. Rumor actors consist of two type of diffusion, which is rumor mongers and playful mongers. These two type of mongers make the internet rumor as collective system. Playful mongers play strategically to maximize playfulness. Internet rumor as play is consequence of collective framing constituted by dynamic interaction and playfulness. The networking space spreading internet rumor function as a playground which mobilize play rule, ignoring fact based framing. Rumor as paly, even though it turns out to be a false and loses the public attentions rumor sustains the game play function which makes the rumor without natural extinction. The study proves that playful mongers is a main actors in rumor play ground.
