  • In this paper, the behaviour of charge carriers near the metal/polymer interface and its effects on conduction and breakdown phenomena are discussed. The metal/polymer interface strongly affects tarrier injection space charge formation and breakdown phenomena. Based on their experimental results, the physical backgrounds of the interfacial phenomena are explained.

  • DC breakdown characteristics and formation of space charge at the interfaces of crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) /ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM) laminates were studied. Effects of silicone grease and some chemicals such as crosslinking coagent on the interfacial charge were also studied. Interfacial charge develops at the interface of XLPE/EPDM laminates, which changes depending on heat treatment conditions and types of chemicals coated at the interface. Some chemicals such as maleic anhydride reduce the accumulation of interfacial charge in the XLPE/EPDM laminates. Breakdown strength of EPDM/XLPE laminate through the interface was highest when silicone oil was pasted in the interfaces. Interfacial breakdown strength decreased with the increase of MAH content.

Influence of Electrical Aging on Space Charge Dynamics of Oil-Impregnated Paper Insulation under AC-DC Combined Voltages

  • Oil-impregnated paper is a major type of insulation used in oil-filled converter transformers for both traditional and new energy systems. This paper presents and analyzes the results of the experiment conducted on the electrical aging of oil-impregnated paper under AC-DC combined voltages using the pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) technique. The formation and dynamics of space charge affected the performance of insulation material. The electrical aged oil-paper insulation was obtained through electrical aged experiments under the voltages. Based on the PEA technique, measurements were carried out when the oil-paper insulation system was subjected to different stressing and aging times. The space charge dynamics in the bulk of the oil-paper insulation system with different aging times were measured and analyzed. Characteristic parameters such as the total charge injection amount, the total charges of fast moving and slow moving, and the distortion factor of electric field were calculated and discussed. Results show that the longer electrical aging time, the more charges trapped in the bulk of aging sample. It leads to larger distortion factor of electric field in the bulk of aging samples and accelerate degradation of oil-paper insulation under AC-DC combined voltages.

  • As Plasma Immersion ion Implantation (PIII) using a conducting grid is very useful to reduce the effect of capacitance and charging in surface modification. If the bias voltage applied to the conducting grid is in the range of hundreds of volts, the effects of surface charge and space charge substantially affect the incident ion energy and ion current to the surface. In this paper, through an 1d and a 2d PIC simulation the time varying formation of the space charge and surface charge is analyzed. Experiment with the optimally designed grid on the basis of the simulation results is conducted, and the results of both cases with grid and without grid are compared. In our work with Poly Urethane(PU), the improvement of adhesion is yielded by increasing surface roughness and decreasing Si component of PU.

  • 2017년 공공도서관 메이커스페이스 조성과 운영 현황조사를 위하여 공공도서관 사서를 대상으로 공간과 프로그램 운영현황을 조사하였다. 공간사항으로는 전용공간의 개방여부, 장비대여여부, 공간이용횟수, 관리비용, 운영인력과 어려운 점을 조사하였다. 프로그램 사항으로는 프로그램 종류, 운영장소, 참여자연령대, 시간대, 예산 등에 관하여 조사하였다. 조사결과 장비, 공간부족, 인력 면에서 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 조사 분석되었다. 이를 통한 정책 제언사항으로는 전용공간의 명칭에 대한 논의와 통일화, 전용공간의 면적, 비용, 장비 등에 대한 가이드라인이 필요함을 제안하였다. 또한 중장기 계획과 전문가그룹을 통하여 자문이 지속적으로 이루어지기를 제언하였다.

  • Charging of spacecraft occurs in plasma and radiation environment. Especially, we focused on an accident caused by internal charging in a glass material that was used as the cover plate of solar panel array, and tried to measure the charge distribution in glass materials under electron beam irradiation by using a PEA (Pulsed Electro-Acoustic method) system. In the case of a quartz glass (pure $SiO_2$), no charge accumulation was observed either during or after the electron beam irradiation. On the contrary, positive charge accumulation was observed in glass samples containing metal-oxide components. It is found that the polarity of the observed charges depends on the contents of the impurities. To identify which impurity dominates the polarity of the accumulated charge, we measured charge distributions in several glass materials containing various metal-oxide components and calculated the trap energy depths from the charge decay characteristics of all glass samples.

  • The space charge formation in polyethylene (PE)/ethylene n-butyl acrylate (EnBA) blends were investigated. Heterocharge was found in PE and EnBA containing 5 mole% of nBA while homocharge was found in EnBAs containing 19 and 20% of nBA. All PE/EnBA blends except the one with the EnBA containing 5% nBA showed heterocharge formation. Heterocharge was also found in crosslinked PE/EnBA blends, which was attributed to the volatile residuals generated by the thermal decomposition of peroxide.

  • The effect of the triblock copolymer poly[styrene-b-(ethylene-co-butylene)-b-styrene](SEBS) on the formation of space charge of immiscible low density polyethylene/polystyrene(LDPE/PS) blends was investigated. The amount of charge accumulated in the 70/30(wt%) LDPE/PS blends decreased when the SEBS content increased up to 10 wt%. For compatibilzed and uncompatibilized blend, morphological observation showed that the addition of SEBS results in the domain size reduction of the dispersed PS phase and a better interfacial adhesion between LDPE and PS phases. The location of SEBS at a domain interface enables charges to migrate from one phase to the other via domain interface and therefore, results in a significant decrease in the amount of space charge for the LDPE/PS blends with SEBS.

  • Insulating polymers and their composites have been widely used in various electric apparatus or cables. Recently, the effects of interfaces (metal/insulator or insulator/insulator interfaces) on electrical insulation have attracted much attention. However, interfacial phenomena in actual insulation systems and their physical backgrounds are not well understood yet. In this paper, the behaviour of charge carriers near the metal/polymer interface and its effects on conduction and breakdown phenomena are discussed. The metal/polymer interface strongly affects carrier injection, space charge formation and breakdown phenomena. Based on their experimental results, the physical backgrounds of the interfacial phenomena are explained.
